was an interesting read, first few arcs were good i liked how sunny was harden with his harsh reality, and always tried to break free from his fate, but in the later chapters he finally did it escaped from his fate  but by doing so he lost his conection to the ppl that knew him , then  somehow despite knowing that his love / crush was also a settin done by the threads of fate he decides to get back to her and his friends, losing all the develpment losing himself on love and throwing aways his freedom and the supposed consequences of his previous decision .

i decided to drop this novel arround the time sunny was gettin it on with the white flame girl, i just cant handle romance.

i had hopes for a somehow hardened protag that put himself and his freedoom avobe friends and lover  for once, not my cup of tea.

good read for ppl that like romance and friends that never die

The novel is getting review bomb by some unemployed loser, by the name of fraudjo so if you see his review don't take it seriously and advice to report him immediately. That all there is to it. And don't trust review of users that are giving randomly 0.5 stars they are either is alt or dumbass who have nothing better to do. That all enjoy reading this

Shadow Slave is an absolute masterpiece that deserves far better than the childish review-bombing it’s currently facing. From its gripping worldbuilding to its complex character arcs, this novel doesn’t hand you cheap thrills – it earns every emotional moment. Sunny isn’t some mindless OP protagonist; he’s strategic, flawed, and constantly evolving. The challenges he faces aren’t just physical – they’re psychological, existential, and deeply human.

Yes, there’s grinding. Yes, there’s training. But that’s what makes the progress feel real. If you’re here for empty power fantasy, go read something else. This is a dark, rich, carefully crafted world that rewards patience and attention.

And to the so-called “critics” giving 0.5-star ratings just because Reverend Insanity got criticized: grow up. Review-bombing doesn’t make your favorite novel better – it just makes you look petty and insecure. Shadow Slave didn’t deserve this backlash, and anyone with real taste in storytelling knows that.

Cope harder. Shadow Slave is here to stay.

This novel broke me in the best way. I laughed, I panicked, I almost cried (almost lol). The side characters felt alive, the stakes always felt real, and Sunny… man, he’s something else. If you haven’t read Shadow Slave, you’re missing out big time.

I’ve read a lot of web novels, but this one is on another level. Sunny starts as a selfish, cynical loner and turns into something… more. Not in a cheesy way, but in a real, painful, earned way. His growth felt earned. That’s rare. Amazing writing.

Took me a few chapters to really get into it but once it clicked I couldn't stop. The worldbuilding is amazing and the Dream Realm?? Freaking genius. Sunny's personality is so unique - sarcastic, dark, but so real. Peak Novel 💯

It's good, better than most novels, and sometimes even the GOAT. The only issue I have with it is that tech doesn't seem to be used very creatively to help fight the nightmare creatures.

There's a lot of trolls on both sides of the webnovel/lightnovel readers to allow me to accurately list the pros and cons.

General Pros: One of the mains things you'll notice is the wordplay/humor. It's easily one of the most enjoyable parts of this novel. For example one of the lines goes something like, "His plan failed spectacularly - which is to say it was a spectacle." If you enjoy looking at or making various arrangements of words, the you will like this novel. The worldbuilding is also done quite well. There is a slight con to this, being that some revelations happen by exploding in your face instead of being built up, but it's really not that big of a problem. Characterization is done fairly well, using the KISS(keep it simple, stupid) method. This does also have a mini con, since a lot of characters end up with the same/similar personalities, but again it's not that big of a problem. And, of course, this world's system, the Nightmare Spell, is probably one of the more interesting systems out there.

General Cons: While the characterization is good, character development is hit or miss, as in it was fashioned into a dart and hit some characters while a lot of others were left out. Also, while the writing and descriptions are good, you may end up feeling like some characters' thoughs and dialogue are coming from a single character rather than multiple, which is an unfortunate byproduct of KISS.

Specific Pro: Some people love this novel for certain specific characters, reading on with the hope that their bias gets stronger, better development, or even just shows up more. Maybe they're even sticking around to see the funny and happy moments, or the sad and depressing ones.

Specific Con: The opposite of Specific Pro, some people turned away because their bias doesn't show up, doesn't grow, or doesn't get stronger. Alternatively, some people turn away because the believe that certain characters are given way more attention than they deserve.

Ultimately, I think that's it's a very good novel. Granted I usually read actual paper novels, with this being the first and only webnovel/lightnovel I've read(unless you want to count the 2 chapters of Violet Evergarden I've looked at) so I don't know that much about how webnovels/lightnovels are usually structured. I'd like to think that I know a bit about storytelling though, and overall this one is quite nice.

tl;dr, 9.73 out of 10, and that's at the lowest point.

Shadow Slave completely blew me away.

The mix of mystery, action, and character growth is just spot on.

Sunny is such a unique protagonist, and the worldbuilding is insanely well done.

Can’t recommend it enough!
