Reverend Insanity is a gripping and refreshingly dark cultivation novel that breaks conventions. Its complex protagonist is cunning and ruthless, offering a rare anti-hero perspective that keeps readers hooked. The world-building is intricate, filled with unique cultivation techniques and deep lore that enrich the story. The plot is unpredictable, full of clever twists and intense conflicts. The writing style is immersive, blending philosophical reflections with action seamlessly. It’s a bold, mature story that challenges typical fantasy tropes and rewards readers with a thrilling, thought-provoking experience. Highly recommended.

I will just describe it in one word and that is 𝙥𝙚𝙖𝙠. Yeah that's it. According, to me Fang Yuan is the best protagonist in fiction and it is also my favourite novel. Definitely better than Shadow Slave, Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint, Re:zero etc. The only novel which can match it is Lord of the mysteries. And still Fang Yuan is the better lead.

My #1 novel & what introduced me into the true essence and community of novels. If you're new to novels, I dont particularly suggest Reverend Insanity as it does have its issues due to translation, foreign concepts, and overall complexity. Another tip is, if your looking to read, dont fully rely on reviews or spoil yourself. MC is definitely top 3 OAT, and he's a new type of a protagonist to many readers.  Love RI and I'll always hold it as my #1.

Best novel I have read till now. I think it is as good as 1984 by George Orwell. There are some parts which are a bit shaky but it is expected from such a big book. I haven't completed it yet; I am at like 1300. I might change my review after reading the entire thing. Which is uhhh like not possible but well whatever

Reverend Insanity is a series that excels in its power system, worldbuilding, antagonists, and has an mc who is captivating to watch work.

The power system molds the world into a dog-eat-dog society where even the kindest individuals are pragmatic schemers. The system consists of collecting spirits called gu, which need to be fed and practiced with in order to create a set that covers all aspects in combat/survival. This only scratches the surface of the system. It manages to be grounded and show how sexism is affected in a world where there is no difference in danger regardless of s*x, and keeps a consistent high end for the series that doesn't change throughout its run.

The worldbuilding shows lore through an allegory of "the first man" in The Legends of Ren Zu, which parallels the themes of the main story's situations while also giving lore at the same time. Each volume also fleshes out a different level of society, building on each other till eventually individual regions are more fleshed out than other series' entire worlds.

The antagonists are all competent figures with their own schemes, even at the low end. The volume climaxes are usually showcases of antagonist and protagonist schemes, all colliding in massive explosions of chaos.

The protagonist is one of the driving reasons to pick up the series. He is a broken veteran who is living only for the sake of persevering towards a seemingly unattainable goal. Fang Yuan is a character who was written with the goal of making a true villain. This is not a story of gaining friendships and working with comrades. Fang Yuan doesn't have attachments to others, and he is willing to betray anyone or anything for benefits. The philosophy and insane actions shown by Fang Yuan are gripping and keep the story entertaining even when he is alone.

If you ever want to commit to a story that gives you a true villain and great writing, this is the one to check out.
