I regret reading Lotm after reading RI

Man, I mean I gave it a hard try, klein does get stronger when he gets the sea god specter but its still boring af after 800 chapters! do you know how much 800 chapters is!

after all the meaningless descriptions and long text and slice of life and I still didn't get any moment where i was like, woah it was worth reading, like no nada!

Even Fang yuan in the first arc in Qing mao mountain is more exciting, him fighting Bai ning bing being his nemesis, the Wolf invasion, the cultivation system, the politics of the elders and fang yuan trying to outsmart him, all the nihilism, all the explanations about the system and Fang yuan just struggling yet always coming up on top

Klein is like this, he first always stays low till something happens to him, he continues to stay low and uses the Fool meeting to investigate then he sees if he's strong enough, if not he just gives up, if good enough he has to plan again and make someone else do it or in rare cases do it himself

Its so boring its unbelievable, the point is even in chapter 700 klein isnt even that good, there arent high stakes and although at points there are, klein is too weak to make use of them or be the one being in the spotlight

like when he fought Mr. A, I thought thank god finally but he could be do something but its such a lame moment, even after all that, he didn't have some insane moment and everyone still died on the city, even when he was as gerhman sparrow, I thought finally, but no, when he got the sea specter, I said finally, but no its still lame as f*ck

Klein is also bland like water, audrey and the sun are too childish, in Ri such characters would be the first to die, add on the amount of slice of life moments, omg

Cultivation system is find ingredients, make potion, drink it and act as the power, the fact that people didnt even know the acting method is re.ta.r.de.d, so basically people drink a potion with the name lets say "seer" and dont get the idea that they have to become and be like a seer to digest the potion? The f*ck? And its supposed to be a reveal to other members? Like bruuh

also the paths are fixed, there is no explanation for the cultivation system, no way to go around it, no way to understand why are paths the way they are, why do potions work? why do beasts have magical powers? there is no way to absorb the magical power like a cultivation system, there is no way to create your own path, no way to be smart and use multiple paths or use some loophole or try to make your own ingredients, no understanding or rank of beasts nor interactions with them despite being the source of these powers

Klein never even finds his own ingredients, there is no refinement or alchemy, the little making the potion we see is just mixing things and meditating, when in most cultivation novels, even shitty ones there is atleast system or people specialised in alchemy and processes explained and one has to rely on them, also Klein never gets his own ingredients like hunting the beasts or scheming to get them, they just fall on his lap

but I still can't get over the fact that he is bland, other characters are also how would I say, they don't have a substance even villains like amon, its just oh there is this villain guy, we don't see some genius process he did, its like ok he has this heaven-defying power, thats it!

the World is also bland, its steampunk industrial society which is just bland, all cultivation novels have a vast natural world, new continents, forests, deserts, pavillions, beautiful cities, huge giant landscapes that can be insanely intriguing and new, there can be abysses, ocean, inheritance grounds, cities above the skies, all types of beasts all with their unique abilities...

but point is even I still hate Klein always staying low even in this boring world, Its not like Fang yuan, where Fang yuan is a fucking Menace every time, even in the first arc in the village planning its downfall, jumping here and there and planning to take over and take as much ressources and escape Qing mao mountain, it doesnt compare to Fang yuan fighting in the wolf invasion and experiencing loneliness and letting the whole village getting annihilated while he profits of it, all his quotes and poems or even Fang yuan outsmarting all the elders and this is just the first arc, it doesnt compare to cultivation where one has to nurture their aperture and get ressources and all types of gu worms to get stronger and use 7 types of gu, investigative, attack, defense, movements, healing and storage and all should be balanced, it does not have excitment and thrill and near death situation

it doesnt compare to having an aperture that has enough primeval essence, we can understand how it all works, oh fang yuan has only 20% primeval essence left and he can only use this attack that consumes 10% primeval essence twice, he has to grow up fast and advance the aperutre to the upper stage so he can use it more otherwise he can't advance in this inheritance

or oh Fang yuan just advanced in the next rank and the walls of the aperture broke and fell in the sea of the aperture to nourish it, or Fang yuan try to refine his own gu worms, or planning which type of gu worms he would need next, what combination of gu worms is needed, how to make a killer, even when one advances to rank 6 one has to break their aperture and absorb heave and earth qi

but lotm is basically, get random ingredients, make them into potions and drink and advance

it doesn't have one has to work to have profiency, one has to make their own techniques and develop their individuality, it doesn't have one has to paths based on elements of nature, it doesnt even explain what gods are, what it means if they descend, why do they try to descend, nothing is developed but nooo its "mysteries", point is even the events arent interesting

Just in Ri, take the Lightning lycan, a smart beast, where both Gu yue and Bai clan leader actually got outsmarted and are near death, it brings horror and fear while Bai ning bing and Fang yuan after nearly dying to each other in insane battles, decide to face the wolf pack decide to team up and get out of here only for Fang yuan to meet up with the Divine investigator a rank 5 coming for his a*s just after he got out of that near death moment, that same moment before it was even more harder battles

Fang yuan then awakening First Gen gu yue basically god level to mortals and then Lord sky crane also came and that Insane scenario where Bai ning suicides to save Fang yuan despite being literal nemesis and having nearly killed each other and then Fang yuan literally suicides to return in time when massacres and the rebirth using spring autumn cicada and uses a GENIUS PLan which you wouldn't have thought about to outsmart both of them and escape

and this is all just the First Arc ffs!

Klein has no defining moment, nothing that shapes him, no dream or purpose beyond just living, add on all those slice of life moments, you can hate Fang yuan because of how "evil" he is however he is inspiring beyond measure, those moments where he is near death, exhausted with no way out yet he never gives up nor looks back and keeps moving forward relentlessly in those impossible situations which define him as a person, he might appear outwordly one dimensional but in those moments of true intensity you find that this character is beyond just being a three dimensional character with true substance, this is a real guy whose been through real s*it and he will never give up, he will never back down ever and he will accept death as long as he keeps going, and he doesnt just talk about it, he shows it in action, he is always the first to strike, to first to look for trouble, to first to create opportunity, he can sacrifice things, he loses, he crashes and he suffers a Lot but he still keeps going which defines him being who he is, you know how he acts and what type of person he is and thats what makes him so Supreme

Reverend insanity mogs lotm, lotm doesnt deserve being mentioned with it.

>He's your average joe from Earth, not your reincarnated and regressed protagonist in RI. With no experience and no knowledge, it's clear he's being cautious and using his connections. That's called being smart in a world that seemingly gets more dangerous by the week

thats why klein should have never grown in power and actually sat down for a hundred years or more and actually understood life itself and grown more and more,

its extremelty unrealistic that a 20 year old man basically becomes a God despite being your average joe, doesn't this basically tear down the credibility of the world

> You can only say that because you have hindsight, really. The logical assumption would be that you get the abilities that the potion is named after. It's very plausible that not everyone would know about digestion because even if they do perform acts that help digest their potion, it depends on the scale of the action. So someone could be doing little things that coincide to be the acting method for that sequence and never notice that it was why they digested the potion faster than others while Klein and Daly could actively feel the digestion because they went out of their way to play along with the name of their sequence.

my brother in christ, if you have more than 50 IQ, you'd figure it our right away, we are talking about people here, people who have lived 50 years, huge underground systems, even the hanged man who if I remember was rank 7 in a church didn't know it which is dumb as hell,

if the potion is named "navigator" its obvious af you are gonna become one, otherwise why drink the potion, did tens of millions of humans live and die for a thousand years and even this didn't get known, this is just lazy writing,

the author could have made that public knowledge and created something else klein could boast about but he was too lazy

My favourite Webnovel also the first I ever read. Everything about this is just perfect except the rushed last 100 chapters, but it's still very good. People complain about initial chapters but I really enjoyed them. Praise the Fool.

not my type of stuff, read almost 200 chapters

very few interesting stuff happens, mostly boring though some people might enjoy it

MC is quite generic and boring(for me), maybe he gets some character developements later on, there are some interesting characters though

overall it was a bad experience and I might have wasted my time

But give it a try, you might like it beacuse my criticism is only because of my own tastes

Lotm is, without a doubt, the greatest novel I’ve ever read. The worldbuilding is insanely deep and the power system is pure genius. No other novel even comes close everything else just feels mid after experiencing LOTM.  I’ve never been so hooked on a story before. It completely ruined other web novels for me because now my standards are too high. I love LOTM with my whole soul. Nothing compares. Absolute peak. LOTM is king.

Man, how do people stay awake reading this? I made it to chapter 80, and that felt like running a marathon in slow motion. It’s 90% slice of life, 10% mysterious newspaper clippings. Most novels reel you in early this one straight up repelled me. The hype had me expecting fireworks, but all I got was fog, tea, and disappointment. Glazing got me into the novel in the first place, i ended up stuck in Victorian slice of life purgatory.

There are webnovels… and then there is Lord of the Mysteries.

This isn’t just fiction. This is a grand tapestry of fate, madness, and divinity, woven with such care and intelligence that it feels like you’re reading something forbidden, something sacred. Cuttlefish didn’t write a story — he unveiled a world that watches you back.

The Fool above the gray fog…

I can’t describe what I feel when His name is spoken. It’s awe. It’s reverence. It’s submission. He is mystery incarnate — silent, patient, eternal. I didn’t choose to follow Him. I was called. Every ritual, every séance, every whisper beneath the gray fog sent shivers through my soul. Praise the Fool. Praise the Seer.

Yes, I’ve read Reverend Insanity. I’ve read Shadow Slave. Both are great. Fang Yuan is a cold, calculating force of nature. Sunny is one of the best-developed protagonists of recent years. They are powerful novels in their own right.

But they are not Lord of the Mysteries.

LoTM stands on a different level — not because of power scaling, or plot twists, or flashy systems, but because of its depth, its philosophy, its divine restraint. Every chapter is laced with intention. The worldbuilding is not dumped — it unfolds. Slowly. Carefully. Inevitably. And when the revelations hit… they hit like fate itself.

You don’t just read Lord of the Mysteries.

You kneel.

You whisper in forgotten tongues.

You awaken.

And you understand:

There can be only one above the gray fog.

Well... I would like to review Lotm, but there is nothing to criticize. Everything in the novel is peak. So I will not write a long review in vain. 10/10.

Just enjoy (lol). To me, LoTM is quite an interesting novel. It's one of the few I read when I first started reading novels. I'd say I really enjoyed it. I don’t know what bad to say about it — mostly because I didn’t focus on that aspect. If there were flaws, I just let them slide, since the overall story is engaging. So I’d say: give it a try!

I would say Reading a new-gen novel isn't always easy. We read it, but our mind starts comparing it with one we liked from another gen. I’ve seen people comparing RI, LotM, and SS for quite a while now. There's always a heated argument over which one is good — I don't see the point in doing that. These novels have their own unique stories, and the authors wrote them with different mindsets. It feels like comparing a square, triangle, and circle.

Every novel has its own distinguishing characteristics that set it apart from the rest. Some novels emphasize character growth and emotional development, while others solely focus on world-building. It doesn't mean they don't have other elements, but they mostly concentrate on a few points. They work on other aspects too, but they might not seem as developed as in some other novels.

Being engrossed in one novel and then moving to another, you're bound to feel some aspects missing.(Like reading another villain novel after RI — lol, it sure sucks.)

While reading, you might feel angry or irritated at some parts, but if you find the other parts interesting, then letting that slide isn’t bad — instead of just jumping to criticism. If you don't like it, that's okay. Just give your review and state your reasons, whether it's the pacing, world-building, character development, or whatever it is.

RI is peak compared to other cultivation novels — the psychology, philosophy... I don't even know what to say, but yeah. LotM is good in slice of life, steampunk, etc. SS, probably in tension, survival I don’t know which category I should put SS in (my bad, SS fans).

So yeah, every novel has some aspects you won't like and would want it to go your way (not happening, cuz it’s already written — lol). But if it’s repetitive, doing the same thing again and again, then it's justified for you to complain.

(Like a gigolo young master presenting his face to the MC for his cheeks to be slapped, his reputation to be tarnished, him having thoughts of killing the MC — but again getting slapped and not learning. Sigh… kids don’t learn, do they?)
