Chapter 69: Curse you, Author san. I was right
Reaching the room where the eggs were placed, Eva’s grip tightened on Ethan’s furs. An excited smile spread widely across her lips.
Ethan patted her with his paws to get down, but she hugged him tightly, her face rubbing against his silk fur as Julian opened the door.
Cracks formed on the eggs as they watched in anticipation. Minutes passed, and Eva’s smile slowly faded.
With a blank expression, she moved towards the beast coming out from the egg.
She dropped Ethan and shoved the beast back into the egg as if trying to return it to its origin.
’’Eva dear, it’s too late.’’ Julian’s tone was filled with pity and schadenfreude at her beast’s huge hairless form.
He turned to his beasts—a huge bronze-scaled cobra with an hourglass mark on its hood.
He could feel the connection bonding them together and stretched his hand towards the snake, and the snake brought its head forward, rubbing his cold scale across Julian’s hands, a compliant hiss left its mouth.
While Eva was distracted, Ethan shifted into his human form, grabbed spare pants from his space ring, and turned to his beast—now standing as tall as him.
He could visibly notice the cold air leaving the huge white wolf with blue, crystalline, sparse fur.
The room grew cold and cramped with their massive forms.
The wolf moved closer to Ethan, sniffing him before setting at his feet. It howled, and a glimpse of its sharp fangs shone dangerously in the room.
’It can’t be, no! I refuse to believe it.’ Eva was having a mental breakdown at the sight of her ugly beast.
She shook her hair furiously in denial as she pushed the whining beasts back into the egg. Due to the force, the egg cracked into pieces, and the figure of the beasts was shown fully.
Its skin resembled plucked chicken, six tails waved at this back, and it stared at Eva with aggrieved cold feline eyes.
Eva slumped weakly on her knees, ’’This can’t be happening to me. Whoo hoo, why do I have an ugly beast? Why!’’ she shouted out in anger and shock, almost regretting she didn’t eat the egg before it hatched.
A high-pitched whimper left the fox’s mouth at Eva’s words, it moved its tails and wrapped them softly around Eva’s hands.
Eva forced a smile, but it was worse than crying. Feeling the beast’s sadness, she reached out to pet it—only for her fingers to touch its pink flesh.
She burst into tears, a storm forming above her as rain poured, adding salt to her wound..·´¯`(>▂<)´¯`·.
They couldn’t just look on as she cried—Ethan squatted beside her, the rain beating against his body, and a trail of water slid from his face to his chin.
Like magic, a bowl of drumsticks appeared in his hands; the aroma drifted into Eva’s nose. She paused, her cries coming to small sniffles as she took the bowl from his hands.
Julian’s brows raised at how easily she was consoled and stared at the bowl with a thoughtful glance. Eva tore into the meat with an aggressive expression—as if the meat was the author san, who created this ugly beast.
’’There, there...’’ Ethan patted her back softly, his cold eyes held warmth as he watched her. As Eva’s emotions calmed, the heavy rain turned into a drizzle before stopping—the clouds still lingered above her.
’Curse you, Author san. I was right; I shouldn’t have gotten close to the female lead, now see what happened.’ Eva complained bitterly in her heart.
A beautiful goddess like her would have to go around with such ugly beast. The thought made her shudder in disgust.
The beast could sense Its owner despising it and couldn’t help but let out a sad whimper. It wasn’t its fault that it was ugly, it was still a newborn and had time to grow into a beautiful beast. Eva heard a sad whimper and felt guilty.
’’Ehn...don’t be sad, you’re beu—cough...beutif....’’ Eva tried hard to speak against her conscience but the sight of its skin and thin body made it difficult.
Her gaze darted around the room, unable to meet its hopeful gaze. ’’cough...’’ Julian’s shoulders trembled from suppressed laughter, using a fit of coughs to disguise the mirth dancing in his gaze. Ethan’s lips twitched and shot the fox a look of pity.
’’Umm...yea, you get what I’m trying to say.’’ Eva finished lamely, with a guilty conscience, she turned away from the fox and focused on her meat.
The fox lay on the ground, tails dropping, tears streaming down its face.
Eva shot the beast a puzzled look, ’’Why is it being so dramatic? I tried my best to boost its confidence—I had to lie, you know?’’ Unaware she had spoken her thoughts aloud, she blinked in confusion.
The tears turned into a full-blown wail. ’’Hahaha...I can’t... haha aha...’’ Tears slid down from the corner of Julian’s eyes, and his shoulders trembled as he held his stomach in pain from laughing too much.
The other beasts, stared at their companions with dull expressions, unable to fathom what was happening.
Eva froze when she heard his laughter; her eyes widened, realizing what she had done.
Blushing with guilt, she fled the room, afraid she would only make things worse. ’I have to be careful with what I say. My beast has a fragile heart,’ She sighed inwardly—the formal excitement of having a beast was nowhere to be found.
It felt like she was cheated of her emotions. ’Haa...what luck would a passerby like me have?’
The image of her husbands’ majestic beasts soured her mood. She bit her lip in envy and took a huge bite of meat.
Julian slumped against the wall as his snake coiled around him, its tongue flickering.
Julian traced the hourglass mark, with a smile on his face before it turned serious.
They weren’t just massive—they possessed powers that complemented their owners.
’’Ethan, check your beast,’’ Julian called out, wanting to see if it was the same for him or if his own beast was unique.
Ethan didn’t need to check, he could feel the icy chill exuding from the wolf.
’’Does your beast have the same power as you?’’ Ethan asked with a probing expression.
Seeing Julian’s positive nod, he turned to the depressed fox on the ground. ’seems it wasn’t useless after all.’
His Indifferent gaze softened slightly as he stared at the beast. ’At least it wouldn’t become a burden to Eva.
