Chapter 68: I’m not dying here

"Hmph!’’ Eva snorted at his words. "Don’t you dare wife me!

(ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻.’’ She huffed from anger; a cloud gathered above her, and sounds of thunder echoed through the room.

Eva inhaled deeply, struggling to rein in her anger. "Do you want me to have kidney failure, to become a husk of a human, with drained energy and dark eyes? Huh?’’ Eva threw the dagger, embedding it in the middle of the headboard.

Ethan and Julian exchanged uneasy glances, struggling to understand her words.

"Eva dear...you’re getting it all wrong. Excessive pleasure doesn’t cause kidney failure. It ...’’ Julian trailed off when he met her cold gaze.

Eva folded her hands, half believing his words. Her gaze trailed their tied hands, and she wondered what to do with them.

She didn’t really think it through when she tied them up—no, they wouldn’t go like that after that huge scare they gave her.

"Wife, it won’t happen again.’’ Eva’s eyes landed on the bound Ethan, and to her surprise, she found the sight.... Captivating.

He looked like a cold beauty tied up against his will and ready for his captor to ravish. ’ ( ̄﹃ ̄) snap out of it. You’re supposed to punish them, not drool helplessly.’ Eva shook her head as if to remove the tempting sight from her mind.

They noticed, ’’Wife, I don’t mind doing bondage...’’ Julian drawled, winking at Eva with a knowing expression.

Eva swallowed from that thought but quickly regained her senses. ’Think of something disgusting. Set an example, or next time, you’ll be too sore to even walk.’

A flash of that black liquid flashed through her mind, and her face scrunched up in disgust, and luck may have it—she was staring at their chest.

Ethan and Julian froze at her expression, they shot each other a shocked look, their heart sinking at their assumptions. ’This can’t be happening. Is our wife traumatized when seeing their body?’ Julian’s mind was active with thought, he shot Ethan furious gaze.

Ethan wasn’t much better, he struggled with the binds, but he was too weak to move. His brows furrowed; it seemed she’d drained their energy.

’’Wife, you can’t hate your husbands." Eva was snapped back to her senses at Julian’s pleading words.

"???". Her mind filled with question marks at their fearful expression. ’Are they finally scared of me? That’s right.’ Eva’s spine straightened at that thought.

"Wife release me,’’ Ethan uttered softly. He wants to hold her in his hands, ’she can’t be disgusted with me. I wouldn’t let that happen.’

Eva shook her head, "stay there for a while, I’ll release you when I feel like it.’’ Ethan stared at her, his eyes flashing. ’He can only use this last card.’

Eva was about to sit when Ethan disappeared, and in his place was a black cat.

"Meow...’’ he meowed softly, and Eva’s feet were stuck to the ground, unable to move.

’Ah! So cute, I can’t! (ノ´ヮ`)ノ*: ・゚✧’ She hurriedly moved to the bed and picked up the cat.

Julian shot Ethan a look of pure disgust, betrayal shimmering in his eyes as Eva showered the cat with kisses.

’Don’t brothers suffer together? Where’s your dignity?’ As if Ethan could hear his thoughts, he shot Julian a cool gaze. ’Use your strengths to your advantage.’

Selina stared in wonder at the forest before her. Her hands trailed the tree bark in awe. ’What world am I in? There are so many tall trees, and the air is so fresh.’

"Miss Selina, be careful, don’t lag behind.’’ A man from the team warned. Though everything was mind-blowing, they had to be cautious.

The two women sneered at her inattention. They were in a dungeon—nothing here could be taken at face value. The number one rule of the dungeon applied here as well: never take anything lightly.

Selina’s eyes flickered with something unreadable, but she quickly masked it and offered the man a grateful smile.

She moved forward, moving closer to George, he shot her a gentlemanly smile before focusing on the road ahead.

They walked for hours, lost in the circle of trees, George gave a signal to stop. Everyone sighed in relief, Selina wiped her sweat, her legs aching as she sat beside a tree.

Everyone brought out food from their space bag or normal bag, making Selina realize that she hadn’t packed anything for herself.

She stiffened as she felt their eyes on her. One woman sneered, "Don’t tell me you expect to mooch off of us? How could you not pack provisions for the dungeon?" The woman’s sharp words made some of them subconsciously hide their food.

It’s not that they couldn’t share but they don’t know how long they would be stuck in this forest for.

George said nothing, watching the scene unfold. He chewed his food, ignoring the dispute but keeping an eye on her expression.

’Only when she feels isolated will I swoop in to save her.’ Mistaking his silence for approval, the woman’s tone grew sharper.

"The Skull team doesn’t tolerate freeloaders; you work for your keep. We don’t carry burdens, so keep that in mind.’’ Selina bit down hard on her lips, her eyes glinting with unshed tears.

’Bitch, I’ll make sure you never return. How dare you embarrass me in front of everyone.’ She cursed in her mind but gave George a pleading look for help.

Noticing the beauty was about to break, he raised his hands, stopping whatever was about to leave the woman’s lips.

"People can be forgetful; don’t blame her too harshly for her mistakes. Here, take my food.’’ George shot the woman a stern look before handing his meal to Selina.

Selina’s expression turned grateful; she stretched her hands to take it, but a sudden blur of fur flashed towards them.

Everyone froze in terror as they stared at the half-torn body of a man. In front of him stood a massive tiger, its jaws matted with blood as it gnawed on the man’s other half.

"Ahhhh!" A shrill scream echoed, waking and snapping everyone from their daze.

They drew their weapons, some summoning their powers as they faced the beasts.

Selina’s legs buckled, and she crumpled to the ground, trembling as blood gushed from the man’s severed body.

A wave of nausea overcame her, and she heaved, vomiting clear liquid. ’Get yourself together. I’m not dying here; you have survived worse, and you always get back alive.’ Her gaze regained its focus, her mind turning firm.

Witnessing so much death in her past life, this was nothing, it only caught her off guard for a minute.

Watching them face off with the beast, she healed the wounded ones. This was the perfect opportunity to show her usefulness.

They would protect her more and enough of them would survive to be her cannon fodder.

She weighed her options before focusing on healing their wounds.

"Thank you, Miss Selina.’’ Some were grateful while others felt it was her job anyway.

Finally, they killed the beast; they had smiles on their face for surviving, unaware it was just the beginning.

....

Days passed, and their number reduced to six, but none wanted to give up the test. Great dangers come with higher rewards; they held firm to that belief.

Selina’s bloodshot eyes betrayed her exhaustion. She hadn’t slept a wink, stifling a yawn and gnawed on the meat.

Her body itched and stung badly, but she dared not go into the water. The eaten woman was a prime example.

"The competitor passed the Forest of Despair test. Transferring to the next location in 3...2...1."

They froze at the sudden announcement. Before they could react, the world around them blurred, and they were transported to the next trial.

"Hisss...’’ Selina hopped, her delicate skin turning bright red, pressing her hands over the red spot to heal.

Her expression changed, her hand trembling as she tried again but nothing.

"C-Can anyone use their powers?" her voice cracked as she faced everyone.

Puzzled by her scared expression, they tried their powers only to be frozen in shock.

"My powers are gone?!" a man shouted his voice filled with fear.

Selina’s hanging heart dropped, ’Thank God, it wasn’t only her.’ She turned to her surroundings and wrapped her hands around herself at the sight of the volcano.

"Cough...’’ Selina felt her throat itch, and she followed along. Her body was soaked in sweat, her shoulder trembling from the force of her cough.

Some in the team couldn’t endure and collapsed to the ground to rest.

Selina slumped onto the scorching ground, too drained to care about the heat.

Suddenly, the ground beneath them trembled, and a whooshing loud noise entered their ears. Looking up, they saw twenty molten rocks heading for them.

"Fuck.’’

The sight of impending death fueled their strength. They sprang to their feet and ran.

Meanwhile, Eva finally released Julian, who hugged her, covertly searching her gaze for disgust as his body touched hers.

Finding no signs of it, he breathed out in relief. "How can you threaten your husband, hmm...?’’ he kissed her softly on the nape, going upward to her earlobe.

Eva shivered slightly, she was about to escape his hold when they all froze. ’The eggs are hatching.’ A sudden connection with their beasts jolted through them, and without hesitation, they rushed out of the room.

Eva practically vibrated with excitement. "What do you think my beast would be. Ahh! I can’t wait.’’ Julian helplessly stared at her back, badly wanting to remind her, how she wanted to eat her beast in the first place.
