Chapter 70: Why did they choose that bitch?

Chapter 70: Why did they choose that bitch?

Julian sighed when he remembered his promise. ’’Who’s going to inform Uncle Stone of the hatched eggs?’’ His gaze narrowed as he watched Ethan. ’’Don’t push it to me.’’ Julian sneered, watching Ethan’s expression shift with growing annoyance.

Ethan frowned at his words, obviously entertaining that thought. ’’Let’s settle this with a coin toss. I chose tails.’’ Ethan suggested knowing he couldn’t push the errand to Julian.

Julian straightened, his expression turning serious as Ethan pulled a silver coin from his ring.

He hoped he was lucky this time, with a focused gaze, he watched Ethan flick the coin into the air.

It rolled and fell into Ethan’s palm. The air around them froze with tension; Ethan slowly opened his hands, amplifying the tense surroundings.

’’Head...HEAD! Hahaha.’’ Julian laughed as Ethan’s figure froze with disbelief. Julian laid a mocking hand on Ethan’s shoulder, a smirk curling on his lips.

’’Sigh... no need to feel sad. It happens, no one can be lucky every time.’’ He paused and patted his back, ’’Take your time on the road. I will take good care of our wife.’’ Julian quickly dodged the ice dagger lunging at him and trotted to the door, waving with a smirk on his face.

Ethan stared at him with a cold gaze, if looks could kill, Julian would have been torn to shreds.

His face darkened as he crushed the frozen coin into glittering shards.

With a depressed sigh, he left the room. The abandoned beasts exchanged glances, uncertain whether to leave the room.

Since their owners were within proximity, there was no use going to them.

The wolf was about to close its eyes but instead rose from its resting spot and walked out of the room, searching for Ethan.

Ethan reached for the ignition but paused, spotting his beast growling outside the window.

With their bond, he could feel the beast’s emotion and intention. But he fell into a dilemma, his gaze darting from the bus to the wolf’s weight.

’’Go back. You can’t fit into the bus.’’ Ethan waved in the direction of the mansion but the wolf beat its claws on the bus.

The bus shook; Ethan held the window for balance, almost feeling the car would fall apart under another push from his beasts.

’’You haven’t even gotten into the car and it almost fell apart. Go back, I will be safe.’’ Ethan tried to reason with the wolf as patiently as he could, but the wolf responded by almost freezing the car.

’’Stop! It’s not like I can ride you. Go back.’’ Ethan’s patience snapped. He jumped out of the car, grabbing the wolf by the cuff and dragging it back to the mansion.

The wolf whined, Its paws gently patting Ethan’s thighs, communicating its intent. Ethan paused, trying to decipher its message.

Seizing the moment, the wolf nudged him onto its back and before Ethan could react it bolted out of the mansion gate.

Ethan could only hold on to the wolf’s hair and stabilise his figure, accepting the wolf’s action. Sensing the owner was stable, the speed increased.

It blurred past the other buses, a streak of white light leaving everything else in its wake.

Passerby blinked, thinking the constant darkness was playing with their mind.

Meanwhile, Selina and her remaining team walked in a painful haze. Her legs trembled, tempting her to stop and rest but the gruesome death of those two woke her up.

She could still recall how the rocks pierced through them and how their bodies melted in the process. The smell of roasted flesh and sulfur made her heave with nausea.

She wanted so badly to give up, but the thought of Eva having a beast with those men’s help made her grit her teeth and walk.

She refused to be left behind—her intuition warned of an impending change.

A sense of panic gripped her heart, making her doubt if her decisions had been right since the beginning.

She shook off the depressing thought from her mind, blaming it on the brutal test. ’There was no going back now. Dungeon conquerors aren’t just Lord Julian and Ethan.’

Her fingers traced the ring, her mind already considering a bargain with their enemy when the time came.

Determination flared in her eyes—until a jagged rock caught her foot, yanking her from her thoughts.

’’Hiss...’’ tears filled her eyes as she shouted in pain. Her flesh was torn open, rubbing harshly on the hot ground, but she didn’t dare stop for a second.

George didn’t stop when he heard her cries—neither did the others. Every man for himself.

This test had taught them a harsh truth. George, who once harboured impure thoughts about Selina, was now only concerned with saving his own skin.

Selina dragged her injured leg, coughing as pain wracked her body. Blood seeped from the wound, drying instantly upon contact with the scorching ground.

Selina stumbled from pain, falling head-first onto the ground. And luck may have it, her wound pressed directly on the ground.

Ahhh!" A painful cry tore from her lungs as tears blurred her vision. Through the haze, she glimpsed their backs moving away from her.

She stretched out her hands to beg them for help but they paid her no heed and disappeared from her sight.

Selina’s heart plunged into icy dread as the ground trembled, and countless rocks shot into the sky.

’’Whoosh!’’

They lunged at her. Selina trembled, trying to crawl away, but her body was too weak to move. The rock loomed closer—death flashed through her mind. She shrieked, her voice raw. ’I FORFEIT THE TEST!

The rock froze inches from her forehead, suspended in place.

Selina’s back was drenched in sweat, her body trembling as fear blurred her vision. A suspicious yellow liquid pooled beneath her.

Time passed, and Selina’s unconscious figure stirred. She moaned, her eyelids fluttering. ’Ahh!’ A scream tore from her lips as her eyes shot open.

She stumbled back, her gaze darting back and forth, her thumping heart settled when she saw her surroundings.

The familiar hovering pillars surrounded her, her strung-up nerves settled, and she fell weakly on the ground, her breaths came in ragged gasps.

When the haze of death vanished, she stood up hurriedly and rushed to the pillar. Pressing her hands on it, hitting harder against the pillar, but she was still where she was.

Tears welled up at the thought of –Eva had a beast, and she had nothing. Her body shook as she pounded heavily on the pillar.

Those around watched her hysterical actions and moved away from her.

She fell on her knees, her nails digging into the pillar as sniffing sounds left her. Already exhausted, she could only stay in that position as her mind raced.

’They should not have gotten their beasts yet. Yes! The news just came out—I must follow them to the test.

What if it doesn’t work?’ A whisper of thought rippled through her mind and she fell silent.

She stared dazedly at the ring, her last card. And she swallowed nervously, her hand gripping it tightly.

’They left her no choice. It’s all their fault. Why can’t they wait for her to heal them? Why did they choose that bitch?’ she ground her teeth in hatred as Eva’s face flashed through her mind. ’Why didn’t she die? She was meant to die.’

Pulling her strands in frustration—everything has been different from her past life, she felt Eva was to be blamed for all of it. She would have saved Ethan and Julian if Eva had died as she should.

By now, she would be part of their team, protected, and have everything she wanted at the tips of her fingers.

Everything should have been perfect. A perfect new life, but now it’s all ruined by her. Her fingers dug into the pillar with hatred.

A passerby caught her gaze and froze, his body shivering as he instinctively took a step back in fear.

The man rubbed the Goosebumps on his body, wondering why a beauty would have such a venomous gaze. It’s better to stick with normal women; beauty isn’t everything.

Unaware she had just made a man consider his taste in women, she smoothed her expression into a practised mask of delicate beauty.

She adjusted her hair and dusted off her clothes—only to freeze at the sharp stench of urine clinging to her clothes.

With an embarrassed flush, she stayed a great distance from the crowd while searching her space bag for spare clothes. To her disappointment, she found nothing.

...

Ethan had a thrilling, enjoyable journey with his wolf. His legs were slightly weak as he got down. Rubbing the wolf’s fur under the shocked, fearful gaze of the security.

They quickly reacted and summoned their powers; they thought it was a dungeon beast that had infiltrated.

’’Stop your attack and call Scientist Stone. Tell him it concerns the beast eggs.’’ Ethan patted his wolf, who fell into a defensive stance as soon as the guards showed signs of attacking.

The guards exchanged wary glances—one hurried into the scientist building, while the other stayed frozen, eyeing the massive wolf beside Ethan.

Meanwhile, Stone was in the middle of instructing the juniors beside him on their task. ’’No! Redo the body suit again. Don’t make it bulky; the wearer has to be free to move with it. And get...’’

’’Knock!!!’’

Stone frowned at the interruption. He was in the middle of a very important task, and which blind person choose this time to disturb him.

His work now involves the future lives of the surface explorers, any slightest mistake could be detrimental.

He signalled for the one closest to the door to open it. The door was opened, and an anxious guard walked in.

’’Mr Stone. A man with a huge wolf said he wanted to see you. He said something about a beast’s eggs.’’ The guard spoke under one breath. He was about to catch his breath and call for reinforcement for Stone when he saw a figure run past him.

He blinked, and Mr Stone’s figure was nowhere to be found, with widened eyes, he rushed after him, fearing for his safety.
