Chapter 55: Nah, it was never going to work

Not giving them a chance to react, Julian teleported Eva away from Ethan and into his room. Ethan felt the emptiness in his hands, and the room temperature dropped. Ice quickly spread across the floor beneath him.

"Crack!"

The sound of the crumpling ground made him suppress his anger. The ice around him melted away. Blaine exhaled in relief, silently grateful he wouldn’t need to call for another house reconstruction.

He only wished his masters would take their fight outside and spare him the extra work.

Ethan stood up, ready to settle the long-overdue fight with Julian. Meanwhile, upstairs, Eva blinked, disoriented by the sudden shift in location. Sitting up with her elbow, she realized she was on a bed.

Her eyes darted around the room, its cool grey tones adding to her confusion, but her view was quickly blocked by Julian.

"It’s time to pay me what you owe me...mmm...Eva dear." His fingers trailed over her lips. His grey eyes held hers as he leaned closer.

"Huh? Owe you..." she murmured, still dazed by his touch and the intensity in his gaze. Her breath hitched as he moved even closer, brushing his lips against hers.

Her body weakened, lying back on the bed as he deepened the kiss. His tongue danced against hers, sucking gently, coaxing her to respond. Her hands gripped his hair, pulling him closer as the kiss grew more passionate.

After a few minutes, Julian pulled back, allowing her a moment to breathe. His lips trailed down her neck, nipping and sucking gently.

’’Mmm~’’ a soft moan left Eva’s lips at Julian’s action. But before things could go further, an ice chain wrapped around Julian’s neck like a choker. Whatever arousal had been brewing dissipated, and Eva’s mind cleared.

She watched in surprise as Ethan dragged Julian off the bed and out of the room by the ice-made chain.

Eva covered her face with both hands ’’Haa...you’re hopeless.’’

Her mind replayed the dazed lust-filled moment from a minute ago. One kiss and she was completely lost. She sighed, accepting that she couldn’t control herself around them.

Her heart lightened at the thought and she remembered Ethan’s dark face and knew a fight between them was coming.

She rolled out of bed to separate the fight like a good teammate. But first—meat drumsticks check, crystal for better viewing check. She picked one up and a chair before heading in their direction where she could hear the sounds of a fight.

Walking into the training area, she placed her chair where she could see the action clearly and shone the crystal toward their fighting form, but it wasn’t necessary since the training room was brightly lit with other crystals.

Sitting down, she cleaned her hands with the water in her space before bringing her drumsticks to cough...enjoy the fight.

She took big bites, watching the intense clash as if Ethan might actually murder Julian.

But she didn’t make any attempt to stop them, knowing they couldn’t kill each other for real and she could quickly heal them.

Julian’s sword clashed with Ethan’s, but Ethan pushed him back; he created another sword and pierced Julian’s side, drawing the first blood.

Julian countered by switching his sword to his other hand, slashing Ethan across the chest, making them even.

Eva was engrossed watching, taking a sip of water, and bringing out another bowl as the fight continued.

Ethan made countless ice daggers float in the sky; with a wave of his hand, they all rained down on Julian, who paused them in the air but was soon attacked by a dagger in Ethan’s hand.

A long Ice chain and its ends held a dagger; Ethan flipped the chain in the air before launching it in Julian’s direction. Julian, slashed the dagger frozen above him while dodging Ethan’s attack.

His sword slash shattered the daggers, sending it hauling around the clearing. Eva tilted her head to the side, and an ice-sharp shard embedded into the wall beside her.

She continued eating like her head wasn’t about to be pierced through a second ago.

The dagger chain was slammed onto the ground by Julian’s sword, he teleported toward Ethan, trying to close the distance between them.

Getting close, he shot his legs forward, and Ethan blocked the blow with his hands. Shifting his hands into animal claws, he slashed at Julian’s chest.

"Rip..."

Julian dodged, but his clothes reaped open, and seeps of blood slid down from his chest.

"Yo. Do you want to kill your sworn brother?!" Julian drawled with a tired sigh, removing his torn clothes. His muscles line in display, Eva’s mouth dropped, her meat almost sliding out of her mouth.

’(⑉⊙ȏ⊙) Why didn’t I remember such muscular sexiness?’ Her gaze followed the trails of blood and sweat sliding slowly down his chest.

Julian felt her intense gaze and turned, surprised to see Eva there.

Ethan followed his line of sight and saw Eva with her mouth hung open; beside her were ice shards embedded in the wall, and his heart nearly stopped.

Snapping out of her daze by their stares, she quickly swallowed her bite. "Carry on, Don’t mind me!" She cheered, raising a fist in encouragement.

"Which normal person lets their teammates, no, husbands fight? You are supposed to stop us!" Julian purposely said the words, Husbands.’

Eva paused, her gaze filled with seriousness. "When did we marry, we haven’t even dated and might not even end—"

"Huh? Finish your sentence." Ethan’s cold voice held threats, and Eva felt their darkened stares on her, daring her to continue with her sentence.

Eva chickened out, sensing danger. ’’We are together. I was just giving an example. Hehe.’’ She laughed nervously, feeling if she didn’t clear it up, she would never be able to leave this house again.

’Does marriage come before dating in this world? Why is everything fast? Where is the stage I play hard-to-get?’ Then memories of her dazed face when they kiss her flash in her mind. ’Nah, it was never going to work.’

She took a bite of her meat to console herself and watched their faces return to normal.

Julian’s lips curled up at her agreement. He knew that if he never mentioned it, they would remain just teammates. He wants her to belong to him, and boyfriend status isn’t secure enough.

"After our fight, we’ll get a marriage certificate before she changes her mind." Ethan’s voice was low for only him to hear.

He hummed and quickly wanted to end their fight.

Oblivious, Eva munched on her food, her gaze drifting to Julian’s abs.
