Yugioh Card Summoner -
CH.651 Duel Runner Tournament, part 9
The last day of the tournament began with another show by my monsters. This time it was battles between my Warrior and Beast-Warrior monsters.
Then it was off to the bronze match. I won’t go over it, but I’ll tell you the results. … Legio beat Nir 2-0. Red Nova Dragon just is too strong and Nir lacks consistent removal. And even with all the equips, the Dragunities just don’t have the attack necessary. Would have been different if I allowed some version of Clear and Crystal Wing Synchro Dragons, but for obvious reasons I couldn’t allow them. They would have won the tournament by themselves if they were allowed.
Oh, by the way. I teased it yesterday, but my last day commentator partner was the Crystal Prince himself, Hiro. I was afraid he might be on the side of Saffee a bit too much, but I think I can rein him in. And when I take my place on the track, Alice and Janina will come here to join Hiro on commentator duty.
So with the day’s commentators introduced, let’s get to the final match. Myla vs. Saffee.
The two were ready and waiting on the start line, while I was confirming their Field Spells. No big surprises here.
Saffee ran her usual of Starlight Junktion; Mountain; Rising Air Current; Luminous Spark and Ancient Forest. And Myla ran Aroma Garden, Naturia Forest, Spiritual Forest, Gaia Power and Forest.
Spoiler
[collapse]
For bans, Myla removed Rising Air Current and Luminous Spark while Saffee removed Aroma Garden and Naturia Forest.
Soon enough the track had formed and the first Field Spell was Mountain. It probably isn’t a big deal as in all likelihood, it will change by the time the first Battle Phase comes around.
But at the same time, it doesn’t limit either duelist, so as Fantasia swung down the starting flags, both were off as quickly as possible.
Despite both of them doing their best, only one would enter the Mountain first, and that one was Myla, but by just a bit.
“And it looks like Myla has earned herself the first turn. Let’s see how well she uses it.” I commentated as the duel officially began.
“I am sure my dear sister will be able to deal with anything she can put on the field.” Hiro said.
Myla began her turn by normal summoning Naturia Pumpkin. She used its effect to special summon Naturia Cherries. And then, since she had activated the effect of a Naturia monster, she got to special summon Naturia Hydrangea.
Spoiler
[collapse]
Myla Synchro summoned using Naturia Cherries and Naturia Hydrangea, but instead of summoning Naturia Barkion like you might expect, she called out her ace monster, Aromaseraphy Sweet Marjoram. And with its effect, she added Humid Winds to her hand.
Spoiler

Myla activated The World Tree Continuous Spell and then played Fragrance Storm. She destroyed Naturia Pumpkin and drew a card. And with the card she drew being Aromage Laurel, a Plant-type monster, she got to draw a second card. Also, since a Plant on the field was destroyed, The World Tree gained a counter.
Spoiler
[collapse]
The World Tree is a Continuous Spell I almost turned into a Field Spell, but in testing, it really didn’t work that well, so I decided to just keep it being what it is.
Myla then played Hidden Aroma, which special summoned an Aroma Jar from her deck in face down defense position, before immediately flipping it into face up defense position, thus allowing Aroma Jar to have its effect.
Spoiler

Myla then set a card, which we definitely don’t know, and ended her turn. During her end phase, Aroma Jar gave her 500 LP.

Saffee’s turn began. She drew a card, both players gained a Speed Counter.
And during her standby phase, Myla activated Humid Winds. She paid 1000 life points to search her deck for Aromage Marjoram. That left Myla’s life points 500 lower than Saffee, so Myla could now use Humid Winds to gain LP whenever she wanted. And that combined with Sweet Marjoram’s effect to effectively make a quick effect pop.
Spoiler
[collapse]
Sure that made Myla lose out on Sweet Marjoram’s targeting protection effect, but that shouldn’t be needed, as Saffee’s monsters and spells don’t really target. Only her traps do.
Luckily for Saffee, she had a really nice opening hand. To prove it, she opened up with One for One, discarding Turbo Synchron and special summoning Level Eater from her deck. She then special summoned Quickdraw Synchron by sending Quillbolt Hedgehog to the GY.
She normal summoned Junk Synchron, used its effect to bring back Turbo Synchron and finally resurrected Quillbolt Hedgehog with its own effect.
Spoiler
[collapse]
And just like that, Saffee had a full board of monsters. How would she use them, well, you know how. But before she could get to that, the Field Spell changed to Spiritual Forest. And since Saffee had been focused on her combo, Myla was still in the lead so she got the extra Speed Counter.
Spoiler
[collapse]
Saffee then Synchro summoned. She used Junk Synchron and Quillbolt Hedgehog to summon out T.G. Hyper Librarian. But Myla wasn’t about to let that be. She used Humid Winds to gain 500 life points, which triggered Sweet Marjoram, and she used it to destroy the just summoned Hyper Librarian.
Spoiler
[collapse]
Saffee continued her summonings. She used Turbo Synchron and Level Eater to summon out Formula Synchron in defense. And it let her draw a card. She then returned Level Eater to the field by reducing the level of Quickdraw Synchron by 1, and she used the two to Synchro summon Junk Warrior. Thanks to Formula being on the field, Junk Warrior gained 200 more attack.
Spoiler

Saffee moved to her battle phase and attacked Sweet Marjoram with Junk Warrior. Because of Spiritual Forest, Sweet Marjoram wasn’t destroyed but Myla still took 300 damage.
Saffee then summoned back Level Eater, in defense, by reducing Junk Warrior’s level by 1. She set a card and ended her turn. During her end phase, Myla gained 500 life points thanks to Aroma Jar.

Myla turn began. She drew a card and both players gained a Speed Counter during her standby phase.
She began by special summoning Aromage Laurel from her hand. She could do that since she has more life points than Saffee. She then used Humid Winds, by paying 1000 life points, she searched for Aromage Rosemary.
Spoiler
[collapse]
But that might have been a mistake, as Saffee immediately triggered two of her cards. She started off with Formula Synchron, which surprised me a bit as she doesn’t have anything level 6 or 7 in her extra deck that would help her. But that was because she wasn’t summoning a level 6 or 7 monster.
… by the way, I know this is a terrible time, but the extra deck limit for the tournament is 20 cards. That is because the extra and side deck limit for Card Summoner’s deck box is 20.
Saffee used her face down card, Synchro Material. With Sweet Marjoram’s targeting protection gone since Myla now has less LP than Saffee, she could do that.
Spoiler
[collapse]
The chain then resolved backwards. Myla’s Synchro Material being first, and then came Formula Synchron. And with a level 2 Synchro Tuner, a level 4 non-Tuner Synchro and a level 6 non-Tuner Synchro, Saffee naturally summoned out Shooting Quasar Dragon.
Spoiler

“And would you look at that!” Hiro yelled so loud I was honestly afraid for the hearing of the watchers. Luckily I do have a live editing team who can control his volume so it doesn’t actually cause anyone any trouble. “Saffee has just summoned the ultimate Synchro monster, and on her opponent’s turn no less. There is no way Myla will ever recover from this.”
“It isn’t impossible.” I said to bring down the energy a bit. “But it will be an uphill duel for Myla.”
That took Myla back more than a bit, and with her slowing her speed in her stupor, Saffee took the lead. Shooting Quasar Dragon flying overhead reawakened Myla and she continued her turn.
Myla normal summoned Aromage Rosemary, and after she did, she used the life point gain effect of Humid Winds. But that effect never went through as Saffee used Shooting Quasar Dragon to negate it and destroy Humid Winds.
Myla ended her turn and during her end phase, Aroma Jar gave her 500 life points. This triggered the effects of her two other Aroma monsters, so Rosemary turned itself into defense position and Laurel made itself a Tuner for all of three seconds.

She moved into her Battle Phase. She attacked the 0 defense Aromage Laurel with Level Eater, destroying the monster. This allowed Myla to use the effect of Aromage Marjoram in her hand, but Saffee had her Quasar ready and she negated the effect and destroyed the card.
She then attacked over Aromage Rosemary with Junk Destroyer before attacking twice with Shooting Quasar Dragon, reducing Myla’s life points to 0 and ending the first duel of the final match.
“And the winner of the first duel is Saffee! Naturally the best wins!”
“She did play better in this round, but we shall see how the next one goes.” I added, just to make sure we weren’t too much on Saffee’s side.

I was half expecting Myla to be down after her loss in the first duel, but she seemed more determined than ever, so when the two accelerated, Myla easily got the lead and the first turn of the second duel.
Myla opened up with One for One. I knew she was running it, but this was the first time she has had it, so good for her. She discarded Naturia Cherries and summoned out Aromaseraphy Angelica.

She activated Aroma Gardening and followed that up by tribute summoning Aromage Marjoram. That triggered Aroma Gardening and Myla gained 1000 life points. Myla set two cards and ended her turn.
“Miss Myla set up a decent board. I hope my sister doesn’t suffer too much because of those traps.” Hiro said.

She began by special summoning Unknown Synchron and then normal summoning Tuningware.

But before Saffee had a chance to Synchro summon, Myla activated one of her set cards, Blessed Winds. She paid 1000 life points to special summon Aromage Marjoram from her GY. This triggered Aroma Gardening giving Myla back the life points she just paid. And that triggered the effects of her two Aroma monsters, and with the way Myla chained them, she first destroyed Tuningware with Sweet Marjoram before then banishing it with the regular Marjoram.
Spoiler

That move gave Saffee quite the setback. She no longer had her normal summon and she didn’t get the draw two of summoning Formula Synchron while using Tuningware.
But Saffee still had a play. She discarded Quillbolt Hedgehog to special summon Quickdraw Synchron, summoned Quillbolt Hedgehog with its effect, and tuned Quillbolt Hedgehog with Quickdraw Synchron to Synchro summon Junk Berserker.

Saffee moved into her battle phase, attacking Aromaseraphy Sweet Marjoram with Junk Berserker. Sweet Marjoram was destroyed but Myla took no battle damage because of Marjoram’s effect.
Saffee moved to her main phase 2 and used Junk Berserker and Unknown Synchron to summon out Stardust Dragon. She then set two cards and ended her turn.

Well, she would have had Myla not activated a set card. That set card was naturally the Humid Winds she searched when she summoned Sweet Marjoram. Myla paid 1000 life points and searched for Aromage Cananga.

“A decent end board from Saffee, despite all the problems Myla was able to cause her. Stardust Dragon may be no match to Shooting Quasar Dragon, but it can still negate Sweet Marjoram’s destruction effect, and that might cause Myla some issues.”
“But Sweet Marjoram was already destroyed.” Hiro said, clearly playing into my idea. He knew what I knew, but the viewers might not.
“Yes it was, but Myla can use Blessed Winds to bring it back. But we shall see what they do.”

Myla’s turn began and she drew a card. And both players gained a Speed Counter.
She began with Humid Winds, paying 1000 life points and adding Aromaseraphy Angelica to her hand. She then normal summoned the Aromage Cananga she added to her hand last turn and followed that up with Humid Winds to gain 500 life points. This allowed her to trigger Aromage Cananga’s effect, so she returned one of Saffee’s back row to her hand.
Myla then discarded the Aromaseraphy Angelica she searched for earlier. She targeted Aromaseraphy Sweet Marjoram, so she gained 2200 life points. She then paid 1000 life points and activated Blessed Winds and summoned the Sweet Marjoram from the GY.
This allowed her to use Aroma Gardening to gain 1000 life points back, and she also triggered Aromage Marjoram’s effect, so she could now banish 3 cards from Saffee’s GY. Saffee only has 3, Quickdraw Synchron, Junk Berserker and Unknown Synchron, so all of them got banished.1Note: Myla didn't activate Sweet Marjoram's effect because Stardust Dragon would negate it.
Saffee moved into her battle phase and attacked Stardust Dragon with Aromaseraphy Sweet Marjoram. You might think this is stupid as Stardust Dragon usually has 2500 attack while Aromaseraphy Sweet Marjoram only has 2200. But that is usually.
Aromage Cananga’s first effect. While your LP is higher than your opponent's, face-up monsters your opponent controls lose 500 ATK and DEF. Because of it, Stardust Dragon was down to 2000 attack, allowing Sweet Marjoram to attack over it and destroy the dragon. And Saffee took 200 damage.
Myla then attacked directly with Aromage Cananga and Aromage Marjoram. And since they are still driving in the Gaia Power Field Spell, Cananga had 500 extra attack. So Saffee took 3900 damage.
Myla ended her turn.
“An interesting resolution to the Stardust Dragon problem by Myla. Instead of trying to deal with it by card effect, she just relied on good old battle destruction.” I commented.
“It was good…” Hiro said, sounding just a bit more down than he has. “I just hope Saffee can bounce back from this.”
“It won’t be easy. With just one card in her hand, one we know to be a trap, it doesn’t allow her to combo off. Maybe the Winds have really put a stop on the Quasar.”
“She will find a way.” Hiro said but it sounded more like a wish than actual fact.

She then normal summoned Junk Synchron and used its effect to special summon Doppelwarrior. But Myla responded to this by using Blessed Winds. She paid 1000 life points and summoned Aromaseraphy Angelica from her GY. This allowed her to trigger Aroma Gardening so she gained back those 1000 life points.
And since she gained life points, the effects of all of her Aroma monsters activated. Sweet Marjoram destroyed Saffee’s Junk Synchron, Cananga returned her set card to the hand and Marjoram banished Tuning, Stardust Dragon and Junk Synchron from her GY.
That move kept Saffee from really doing anything, so she just set the two cards in her hand and ended her turn. During her end phase, Myla used Humid Winds to search for Aromage Rosemary.

Myla’s turn began. Draw and Speed Counters happened.
She normal summoned Aromage Rosemary from her hand, and that triggered Gardening so she gained 1000 life points. And that by extension triggered all the other Aroma effects.
With Cananga she returned one of Saffee’s set cards to hand. She then destroyed the other with Sweet Marjoram. With Rosemary she changed the battle position of Doppelwarrior and finally with Marjoram she banished the Tuner Capture she destroyed with Sweet Marjoram.
Myla then tuned Rosemary with Aromaseraphy Angelica and Synchro summoned Aromaseraphy Rosemary. But before Myla could get to her battle phase, the Field Spell changed and they entered the Ancient Forest. And that turned the defense position Doppelwarrior to attack position.
Spoiler

Sure there was the negative effect of Ancient Forest, but that really didn’t bother Myla. She had lethal damage on the field, so she attacked over Doppelwarrior with Aromaseraphy Rosemary, inflicting 1700 damage. She then attacked directly with Aromaseraphy Sweet Marjoram, ending the duel.
That left the match at 1-1, going into the final duel.
As the duel ended, I had to be the one to hype up our audience for the last duel. Hiro was nearly crying because Saffee lost, even though there is still one more duel to go.
