Yugioh Card Summoner
CH.652 Duel Runner Tournament, part 10

The two soon rode into the pits, yes the track had pits next to the starting line. They had a few minutes to gather themselves. I would say catch their breath, but you don’t actually need to breathe while in the Factory. Well, your body does but your soul isn’t in your body so it doesn’t affect your soul.

It was still good to let them have a moment as they could do things like side deck and maybe alter their Field Spell choices now.

After they were done, they wrote out of the pitlane and to the end of the starting zone, which then looped again on itself leading the two to the starting line.

They picked their Field Spells, but they were the same, as were the bans. So the rotation for the last duel is Forest; Spiritual Forest; Ancient Forest; Mountain; Gaia Power and Starlight Junktion. And they were first heading into the Mountain.

And as the final duel began, it quickly became obvious that both duelists wanted the first turn. They accelerated as quickly as their duel runners could, but in the end, one of them had built theirs for slightly better acceleration while the other had prioritized cornering, controls and stability.

The faster one was Saffee. She is much higher leveled than Myla, and while that has less of an impact inside the Factory than it does outside, that does still mean that she is used to moving faster, so she can handle higher speeds and faster acceleration than Myla.

But since they arrived at the Mountain field, with winding and more narrow roads, Saffee had to quickly pull her speed to be more reasonable as to avoid flying off the course. There is only one flight capable D-wheel in this tournament and you can guess who it belongs to.

Saffee’s opening hand was far from the best, but she still did what she could. She special summoned Quickdraw Synchron by sending Turbo Synchron to the GY. She normal summoned Tuningware, but Myla actually had a response to that. She activated the effect of Naturia Cosmobeet and special summoned it in defense position.

Spoiler

[collapse]

That didn’t matter to Saffee. She used Tuningware with Quickdraw to Synchro summon Junk Gardna. And since Tuningware was used as a Synchro material, Saffee drew a card.

Saffee used Junk Gardna’s effect to force Cosmobeet into attack position, then set two cards and ended her turn.

Myla’s turn began. She drew a card and both players gained a Speed Counter.

She opened up with Naturia Pumpkin and since Saffee has a monster on the field, Myla could special summon a Naturia monster from her hand. She special summoned Naturia Cherries. She then special summoned Naturia Hydrangea which she could do since she had activated the effect of a Naturia monster this turn.

Spoiler

Myla then Synchro summoned. She used Cosmobeet and Pumpkin to Synchro summon Naturia Barkion. But she didn’t stop at Barkion as she used Cherries and Hydrangea to Synchro summon Aromaseraphy Sweet Marjoram.

Spoiler

[collapse]

Saffee tried to respond to the Sweet Marjoram summon with her set Tuner Capture, but Myla used Naturia Barkion to negate the trap. She banished Naturia Pumpkin and Naturia Cosmobeet for Barkion. She then used Sweet Marjoram to search for Humid Winds.

But Myla’s monsters couldn’t get over Saffee’s defensive wall, at least not quite yet. But they were really close to the next Field Spell, which happened to be Gaia Power, so Myla went as fast as she dared on the Mountain roads while Saffee had no choice but to match her speed.

Spoiler

[collapse]

To buy even more time for this, just before the penalty would have hit her, Myla set a card face down, and then after even more driving, she set another card.

Then they arrived at the Gaia Power. And since Myla had been pushing, she had also overtaken Saffee so she got the extra Speed Counter. But more importantly, her Barkion gets the power boost from Gaia Power, so now Myla can attempt to destroy it in battle.

I say attempt because you know how it ends. Saffee used Junk Gardna’s effect to force Barkion into defense position, thus preventing the attack. And Aromaseraphy Sweet Marjoram can’t match up to Junk Gardna, Myla had to end her turn.

“Myla is putting up quite the offensive.” I commented.

“But Saffee is holding strong with Junk Gardna.” Hiro noted.

“Let’s see if Saffee can turn her defense into an offense so that she can take away some of Myla’s life points before she gets more Aromages on the board.”

“I’m sure she will.”

Saffee’s turn began and she drew a card. And both players gained Speed Counters.

Myla quickly activated her set Humid Winds, which I found a bit premature. She really didn’t have to use it yet. I mean, I understand why she did, but still.

She used the trap to search for Aromaseraphy Angelica before using Humid Winds to heal herself for 500 life points. This triggered Aromaseraphy Sweet Marjoram and Myla used it to destroy Saffee’s Junk Gardna. But in ‘revenge’, Sweet Marjoram got changed into defense position.

Saffee normal summoned Junk Synchron from her hand. She used its effect to bring back Turbo Synchron, and then special summoned Doppelwarrior from her hand.

She Synchro summoned using Doppelwarrior and Junk Synchron, calling out T.G. Hyper Librarian, and two Doppel Tokens. She Synchro summoned again, using Turbo Synchron and a Doppel Token to call out a Formula Synchron.

That triggered the effects of Formula Synchron and T.G. Hyper Librarian, but Myla had a counter for the second one. That counter being a literal Counter Trap, Swallow Flip. It negated T.G. Hyper Librarian’s effect and destroyed the card.

Saffee did still get the one draw from Formula Synchron, but all she did with it was set it and she ended her turn.

Myla’s turn began. She drew a card and both players gained a Speed Counter.

Myla accelerated a bit, and her being way more familiar with Gaia Power, she was easily able to keep the lead over Saffee who has only driven here a handful of times. That was because the swap in tracks was again coming up and we were headed into the Starlight Junktion. And as Myla led going there, she gained an extra Speed Counter.

Spoiler

Myla first turned both of her monsters back to attack position. She then used Humid Winds to gain 500 life points, triggering Sweet Marjoram’s effect which she used to destroy Formula Synchron. She then paid 1000 life points and used Humid Winds to search for Aromage Rosemary. And she normal summoned it.

Spoiler

Myla moved into her battle phase. She attacked over the Doppel Token with Barkion, inflicting 2100 damage. She followed that up with 2200 direct damage from Sweet Marjoram and 1800 damage from Rosemary.

Myla then ended her turn.

Saffee’s turn began. She drew a card, and both players gained a Speed Counter.

Saffee used four Speed Counters so that she could draw again, and then played Tuning. She added Junk Synchron and summoned it. With its effect she summoned back Doppelwarrior. Saffee then tuned the two together to summon T.G. Hyper Librarian, and two Doppel Token.

She then activated Last Tune. She removed her last Speed Counter and special summoned Unknown Synchron from her deck. She used Unknown Synchron and a Doppel Token to summon a Formula Synchron. And she got two draw two cards.

Spoiler

And they were the perfect two. She discarded Level Eater to summon Quickdraw Synchron and then summoned back Level Eater by reducing the level of Quickdraw Synchron by 1. She used the two to Synchro summon Junk Warrior. Naturally she got to draw a card.

Spoiler

Then she used her three Synchro monsters to Synchro summon Shooting Quasar Dragon.

Spoiler

[collapse]

She moved into her battle phase just as the fields changed and we went from the Starlight Junktion to Spiritual Forest with Myla in the lead. That was far from optimal for Saffee, so all she could really do is attack Naturia Barkion twice to destroy it. She couldn’t leave it to the field because with 2500 attack, that is enough to take away the rest of Saffee’s life points if Myla attacks her Doppel Token with it.

Spoiler

[collapse]

During her main phase 2, Saffee set one card and Myla tried to used Humid Winds to search for an Aromage Jasmine, but Saffee negated it with Quasar. Saffee ended her turn.

“And just like that, Saffee turns this duel around. There is no way Myla can win now that Saffee has Shooting Quasar Dragon on the field!”

“It will be a challenge. But as I said in the first duel, taking down the Shooting Quasar Dragon is not impossible.” I said to remind everyone that Shooting Quasar wasn’t an instant win condition.

“I’m sure Saffee won’t let that happen. She will win!”

Myla’s turn began and she drew a card. Both players also gained a Speed Counter.

Myla activated Aroma Gardening and normal summoned Aromaseraphy Angelica.

Spoiler

She tuned her Rosemary with Aromaseraphy Angelica and Synchro summoned Aromaseraphy Rosemary. And since an Aroma monster was summoned, Aroma Gardening gave Myla 1000 life points. … or it would have, but Saffee used Shooting Quasar Dragon to negate the effect and destroy Aroma Gardening.

Spoiler

[collapse]

That made Myla smile as she now knew there was nothing left to stop her. She had more life points than Saffee, so all of her Aroma monsters gain an extra 500 attack and defense. So Myla confidently moved into her battle phase.

But that might have been a mistake because Saffee activated Call of the Haunted. With it, she called back Junk Synchron, which might seem useless, but she also used Urgent Tuning. She tuned the two monsters together and Synchro summoned Armory Arm in defense.

Spoiler

[collapse]

Myla attacked over the newly summoned Armory Arm with Aromaseraphy Rosemary.

She moved to her main phase 2 and activated Poison of the Old Man. She used it for the 1200 life points. This triggered the effect of Sweet Marjoram which she used to target and destroy Shooting Quasar Dragon.

But when Quasar is destroyed, Shooting Star Dragon takes its place.

Spoiler

Myla moved to her main phase 2 and used all 8 of her Speed Counters to search her deck for a Trap. She set two cards and ended her turn.

“What an upset.” I began, as Hiro again looked a bit down. He really needs to get better at dealing with the fact that Saffee might actually lose. “In just one turn Myla not only dealt with Saffee’s Shooting Quasar Dragon, but she has clearly set up her board to deal with the Shooting Star Dragon left behind. Let’s see if Saffee can bring it back or if the Winds really will carry Myla to victory.”

Myla then began playing on her opponent’s turn. She activated both Dried and Blessed Winds.

Spoiler

[collapse]

She used Blessed Winds first, shuffling Aromaseraphy Angelica from her GY into her deck so that she’d gain 500 life points. And this triggered the effects of Sweet Marjoram, Aromaseraphy Rosemary and Dried Winds, chained in that order. That left Saffee with no other choice than to negate and destroy Dried Winds, but Rosemary then negated Shooting Star Dragon’s effect and Sweet Marjoram destroyed it.

Saffee, seeing that the only card in her hand, as well as her set Synchro Material, would not help her win from this position, forfeited the duel.

“And with that, we have our winner. Out of nowhere, against all odds, the no name adventurer Myla had won the Duel Runner tournament!” I yelled.

Hiro was quietly sniffling in the corner but luckily I could carry the energy by myself.
