Yugioh Card Summoner -
CH.650 Duel Runner Tournament, part 8
After his loss in the first duel, Legio seemed quite … frustrated. I think it is because of how Saffee turned the duel around using his monsters to her advantage, and doing all of it on what would be considered ‘his turn’.
So while Saffee kept the same five Field Spells as last duel, Starlight Junktion; Mountain; Rising Air Current; Luminous Spark and Ancient Forest, Legio changed his just a bit.
Spoiler
[collapse]
He kept Resonant Destruction, Mountain, Mystic Plasma Zone and Pseudo Space, but he changed Rising Air Current for Extra Net.
Spoiler
[collapse]
Saffee banned Mystic Plasma Zone and Resonant Destruction while Legio removed Rising Air Current and Luminous Spark.
The track soon formed and Extra Net was up first. Not optimal for either player going first, but we’ll see.
The two then accelerated and the second duel began. And perhaps because of the upcoming Field, both of them held back. Both of them rely heavily on their extra decks, so going first isn’t optimal. So after possibly the slowest acceleration of the tournament, they entered the Extra Net field side by side, but one was just barely ahead of the other.
That one being Saffee. So she gained the first Speed Counter and was forced to go first in the unideal Field.
Saffee began by playing Tuning. She used it to add Quickdraw Synchron to her hand, and she milled Tuningware. She special summoned the Quickdraw Synchron and sent Doppelwarrior to her GY as the cost. She then normal summoned Junk Synchron and used its effect to bring back Doppelwarrior.
Spoiler

Saffee then bit the bullet and performed a Synchro summon. She used Junk Synchron and Doppelwarrior to summon out T.G. Hyper Librarian. Two Doppel Tokens were summoned and because a summoning from the extra deck happened, Legio drew a card.
Spoiler

Saffee then synchro summoned again, using Quickdraw Synchron and one of the Doppel Tokens to summon Junk Gardna in defense position. Because of Extra Net and Hyper Librarian, both duelists drew a card.

Saffee used her Junk Gardna to change her Doppel Token to defense, she set two cards face down and ended her turn.

Legio’s turn began and he drew a card. Both players also gained a Speed Counter.
Legio then realized that because he hadn’t been pushing Saffee to drive faster during her turn, there was still plenty of road left before they would change Field Spells, and between Hyper Librarian and Extra Net, every time he would Synchro summon, Saffee would draw 2 cards.
Legio probably wanted to stall for more time, so that they’d get closer to the edge of the fields, but he couldn’t afford to hit the 30 second time limit. He only had 1 Speed Counter, so if he lost that, the next penalty for him would be an automatic loss. Yes it is a big penalty, but it is there for a reason. I didn't want people to not act so that they can buy time for the next Field Spell to come up.
So Legio took his first action. He discarded Garbage Ogre and added Garbage Lord to his hand.
Spoiler
[collapse]
After he did, it seemed like he had a plan. So he continued that by activating Resonator Call and adding a Creation Resonator to his hand.
Spoiler

Legio then special summoned Vice Dragon before normal summoning Chain Resonator, using its effect to special summon Barrier Resonator. He then Synchro summoned using Chain Resonator and Vice Dragon, calling out Orient Dragon.
Spoiler
[collapse]
Legio used Orient Dragon to banish not the Hyper Librarian, but the Junk Gardna instead. Before it was banished, Saffee used it to change Orient Dragon into defense. And Saffee also drew two cards because of Hyper Librarian and Extra Net.
Legio paid 2000 life points and special summoned his Garbage Lord. He followed that up by playing Resonant Resonators. He sent Dark, Clock and Barrier Resonators to the GY, and then special summoned Flare Resonator from his deck.
Spoiler

Legio then synchro summoned, calling out Red Dragon Archfiend. Because of Extra Net and T.G. Hyper Librarian, Saffee drew two cards. Legio followed the summon by activating Scarlet Security, which destroyed Saffee’s two set cards, Call of the Haunted and Tuner Capture. Shame she didn’t use Tuner Capture on the Flare Resonator. By the way, like with the Vase, you can also activate Scarlet Security as long as you control RDA or a monster that specifically mentions it.

He then special summoned a Creation Resonator from his hand, and used it, Barrier Resonator and Red Dragon Archfiend to summon out Red Nova Dragon. And again, Saffee drew two cards.
Spoiler

But because of all of the Tuners in Legio’s GY, Red Nova Dragon gained 3500 attack points for a total of 7000.
Legio then activated Gift of the Martyr, sending his defense position Orient Dragon to the graveyard and granting Red Nova Dragon 2300 more attack.
Spoiler
[collapse]
Just before Legio entered his battle phase, the Field Spell changed. And Legio had taken the lead while he was doing his combo, so he got the extra Speed Counter. But that really didn't matter, what did was the next field, Ancient Forest. It forced Saffee's Doppel Token to attack position giving Legio the perfect attack target.
Spoiler
[collapse]
And Legio attacked. The attack position Doppel Token had 400 attack, so Legio's 9300 attack dragon ran over it and reduced Saffee’s life points to nothing.

Duel 3 began. The Field Spells stayed the same, but the first one coming up was Starlight Junktion. Because of that, and maybe some added pressure from losing the last duel, Saffee accelerated like this was the most important duel of the tournament. Which to both of them it kind of was as if they lose, they are out.
But Legio destroyed Saffee last duel, so he seemed more calm than at the start of the second duel, and didn't accelerate as quickly as the slightly panicking Saffee. Thus she got the first Speed Counter and turn of the third duel.
She opened with Tuning, searching for a Junk Synchron and she milled Urgent Tuning. She then special summoned Quickdraw Synchron by discarding Turbo Synchron. She then normal summons Junk Synchron, resurrecting Turbo Synchron. And that allowed her to special summon Doppelwarrior from her hand.
Spoiler
[collapse]
She then synchro summoned. First by tuning Doppelwarrior with Junk Synchron to Synchro summon T.G. Hyper Librarian, and getting two Doppel Tokens in the process. Second she used Turbo Synchron and a Doppel Token to Synchro summon Formula Synchron. That got her two draws.
Spoiler

She used her second Tuning, adding a Quickdraw Synchron to her hand while milling Synchro Material. Saffee activated Starlight Junktion, tributing her Quickdraw Synchron and summoning Unknown Synchron to take its place. She then used Unknown Synchron and a Doppel Token to summon out the second Formula Synchron, which led to two more draws.

She then special summoned a Quickdraw Synchron by sending a Level Eater to the GY. She summoned back the Level Eater by reducing the level of Quickdraw and used the two to Synchro summon Junk Warrior.

Legio’s turn began and he drew a card. And both players gained a Speed Counter.
Also, because of how long Saffee’s turn lasted, as well as the speed at which the two were driving, they were already at the next Field Spell. Saffee was leading and her massive Shooting Quasar Dragon didn’t really let Legio pass, so as we moved into a Mountain, Saffee was in the lead and thus she gained the extra Speed Counter.
Legio began his turn by using Resonator Call. It almost seemed like he was expecting Saffee to negate it, but she didn’t so Legio searched out Creation Resonator.
Spoiler

Legio special summoned Vice Dragon from his hand, and followed that up by normal summoning Chain Resonator. But Chain Resonator’s effect never activated, as Saffee used her Quasar to negate and destroy the tuner.

So Legio used Resonant Resonators. He sent Barrier Resonator, Dark Resonator and Clock Resonator to the GY and special summoned Flare Resonator.
Spoiler

Before Legio could Synchro summon, Saffee used one of her face down cards, Call of the Haunted, to summon T.G. Hyper Librarian from her GY. But despite the minor annoyance, Legio used Vice Dragon and Flare Resonator to Synchro summon Red Dragon Archfiend. And since it was summoned with Flare Resonator, it gained 300 more attack. But it is no match to Saffee’s Shooting Quasar Dragon, and Saffee also got a draw thanks to her Librarian.

Legio special summoned his Creation Resonator and then activated Last Tune. It was one of the custom Spells I made for the tournament. It is a Quick-Play that allows you to remove any number of Speed Counters you have and then special summon 1 Tuner monster from your deck with level equal to the number of Speed Counters removed. Then, immediately afterwards, you must perform a Synchro summon using the monster you summoned, or you lose life points equal to the number of Speed Counters removed, x1000.
Legio has one Speed Counter so he removed it and summoned Barrier Resonator from his deck. He then used it, Creation Resonator and Red Dragon Archfiend to Synchro summon Red Nova Dragon. Saffee drew a card and Red Nova Dragon gained 3500 attack thanks to the seven Tuner’s in Legio’s graveyard.
Spoiler

Legio was then about to enter his battle phase, but before he could, Saffee activated a second Call of the Haunted. She resurrected Junk Warrior with it. She then used Formula Synchron so that she could tune all three of them and she summoned her second Shooting Quasar Dragon.
Not going to tell her, but she really should have done that sooner. A second Quasar means a second negation. She could have stopped Red Nova from being summoned. Now she has to deal with it.
Legio attacked one of the Quasars, the one that had not yet used its effect, with Red Nova Dragon, the Quasar was destroyed, Saffee took 3000 damage and she then summoned Shooting Star Dragon from her extra deck.

Thanks to the attack clearing the way, Legio overtook Saffee, but the next Field Spell is still some ways away.
Legio ended his turn.

Saffee’s turn. She drew a card and both players gained a Speed Counter.
Saffee activated a spell from her hand, De-Synchro. It split Red Nova Dragon into Creation Resonator, Barrier Resonator and Red Dragon Archfiend, all in defense.

She then activated a custom Spell, Speed’s Blessing. With it, she can detach any number of Speed Counters, then she can pick that many cards from her GY and place them on top of her deck in any order. And during her next standby phase after this card was activated, she’d get to draw cards equal to half of the Speed Counters used, rounded down.
Saffee used her four Speed Counters to return Junk Synchron, Unknown Synchron and her two Quickdraw Synchron to the top of her deck.
She then used the effect of Shooting Star Dragon, revealing the top five cards of her deck. Four of them were naturally the Tuners she just stacked there, with the fifth being Tuningware. Thanks to that, Shooting Star Dragon can now attack four times this turn. Her deck was then shuffled.

Saffee attacked with Shooting Star Dragon. Using three of the four attacks, she destroyed all of Legio’s monsters. And with his field empty, Saffee attacked directly twice with Shooting Quasar Dragon, ending the duel and winning her the match.
