Yugioh Card Summoner -
CH.649 Duel Runner Tournament, part 7
The second semi-final match will probably be my favorite match in all of the finals. Just because of the decks involved.
Shooting Quasar Dragon vs. Red Nova Dragon. Saffee vs. Legio.
For Field Spells, Saffee picked mostly the same stuff as last time. Starlight Junktion; Mountain; Rising Air Current and Ancient Forest. However, instead of Yami, she picked Luminous Spark, maybe feeling that her Quasar could use the extra 500 attack when going against Red Nova Dragon.
Spoiler
[collapse]
Legio also changed from his last matches. He still ran Resonant Destruction, Mountain, Mystic Plasma Zone and Pseudo Space, but instead of Mausoleum of the Emperor, he now had Rising Air Current.
Spoiler
[collapse]
I personally felt it was risky running Rising Air Current, but admittedly Legio does have Stardust Dragon and with Saffee’s deck so focused on Quasar, Shooting Star and Stardust Dragon are just backup plans for her.
For field bans, Resonant Destruction and Mystic Plasma Zone were banned by Saffee, while Legio banned Starlight Junktion and Ancient Forest.
That left us with two Mountain, two Rising Air Current, Pseudo Space to potentially double one of them, and Luminous Spark.
Soon enough the track had been randomized and we were starting off with Rising Air Current. The duelists drew their opening hands and were ready to start.
After the countdown, they shot down the track, both clearly wanting the first turn. But by the time they reached the track in the sky, Legio was ahead by just a wheel’s length, so he got the first turn and the first Speed Counter. Only to have Saffee overtake him immediately afterwards, but she was still too late.
Legio began his turn by special summoning Solar Wind Jammer. He normal summoned Dark Resonator and used the two to Synchro summon Stardust Dragon. And thanks to the Field Spell, the dragon had 3000 attack.

Legio set two cards face down and ended his turn.

Saffee’s turn began, she drew a card and both players gained a Speed Counter.
She opened with Tuning, searching her deck for an Unknown Synchron, and then she sent the top card of her deck to the GY, which happened to be Junk Synchron.
Spoiler
[collapse]
She special summoned Unknown Synchron and then normal summoned Tuningware. She used the two to Synchro summon Formula Synchron.
Spoiler
[collapse]
And since Formula was summoned, Saffee drew a card. And since Tuningware was sent to the GY for a Synchro summon, she got to draw another one.
She then played De-Synchro, which by the way I changed the rules of. The owner of the monster is the one who picks if the materials are summoned, not the person who activated the card. I just wanted to nerf the card as if I didn’t, it would just be a ‘remove that Synchro monster’ the spell.
Spoiler
[collapse]
But Saffee didn’t use it on Stardust Dragon. She returned her own Formula Synchron to the extra deck and summoned out its materials. Since monsters were summoned from her GY, she was able to special summon Doppelwarrior from her hand.
Spoiler
[collapse]
She Synchro summoned again, but this time she used all three of her monsters. And with them, she Synchro summoned T.G. Hyper Librarian. She also got two Doppel Tokens.
Spoiler
[collapse]
But the Synchro monster didn’t stay on the field for long as Legio used a Trap card, Bottomless Trap Hole. So Hyper Librarian got banished.
Spoiler
[collapse]
That left Saffee with not many options, but the change of Field Spells was coming up, so Saffee bought some time by slowly setting three cards face down, while keeping up her speed. That brought the two duelists to the next Field Spell, Pseudo Space, and Saffee gained the extra speed counter. Naturally because it was Pseudo Space, the field actually stayed as Rising Air Current.
Saffee ended her turn.

Legio’s turn began and he drew a card. And both players gained a Speed Counter.
Legio played Resonator Call and used it to add Chain Resonator to his hand.
Spoiler

He then paid 2000 life points to special summon Garbage Lord and followed that up by normal summoning the Chain Resonator. And he special summoned Flare Resonator with Chain Resonator’s effect.
Spoiler
[collapse]
Legio tuned Garbage Lord with Flare Resonator and Synchro summoned Red Dragon Archfiend. He followed that up by playing his face down card, Red Carpet, which he used to special summon back Flare and Dark Resonators. And then Legio used Flare Resonator and Chain Resonator to double tune his Red Dragon Archfiend, and he Synchro summoned Red Nova Dragon. And because it was summoned with Flare Resonator, it gained 300 more attack, and thanks to the two tuners in his GY, it gained 1000 more for a total of 4800.
Spoiler
[collapse]
But Saffee responded to the Synchro summon. No, she didn’t try to trap the Red Nova Dragon, instead focusing her efforts on the graveyard. She used Tuner Capture to special summon, to her field, the Chain Resonator Legio used for Red Nova Dragon. She followed that up with Urgent Tuning, using the stolen Chain Resonator and one of her Doppel Tokens to Synchro summon Formula Synchron. That also let her draw a card. And before handing the reins back to Legiop, Saffee used her last set card, Synchro Material. She targeted Legio’s Stardust Dragon with it.
Spoiler
[collapse]
And just like that, she had taken the advantage Legio had built and taken some of it for herself. Because Saffee used her Formula Synchron and Legio’s Stardust Dragon to Synchro summon Shooting Star Dragon.
Spoiler
[collapse]
I was admittedly going wild in the commentator’s booth. I mean, this is pure Anime. Where else would someone have the perfect three set cards to take advantage of their opponent’s plays like that? Had Legio done anything else than what he did, Saffee’s cards would have been basically useless. Or at least a lot less useful. But since everything went the way it did, she got out the second most powerful Synchro monster in her deck.
And as they are in the Pseudo Space Rising Air Current, Shooting Star Dragon does have 3800 attack. Sure that is less than Legio’s Red Nova with its 4800, but still.
Legio moved to his battle phase, attacking Saffee’s Doppel Token with Dark Resonator. Saffee didn’t stop the attack with Shooting Star Dragon, because if she did, Red Nova would attack and that would be way more battle damage. But her Doppel Token was destroyed and she took 900 damage.
Legio then attacked with Red Nova Dragon, but that attack was negated by Shooting Star Dragon.
Legio ended his turn and the temporarily banished Shooting Star Dragon returned.

Saffee’s turn began and she drew a card. And both players gained a Speed Counter.
She then used Shooting Star Dragon’s effect to reveal the top five cards of her deck, those five being Call of the Haunted; Turbo Synchron; two Quickdraw Synchron and Double Summon. That means her Shooting Star Dragon can attack three times this turn.
Spoiler
[collapse]
She then used all four of her Speed Counters so that she could draw a card. A card she put to use as it was De-Synchro and she used it to split up Legio’s Red Nova Dragon. Legio summoned the materials, Red Dragon Archfiend, Flare Resonator and Chain Resonator, all in defense position.
Spoiler

Saffee then normal summoned Synchron Explorer. She used its effect to special summon the Junk Synchron that was sent to her GY by Tuning. She used the two to Synchro summon T.G. Hyper Librarian.
Spoiler

Saffee moved to her battle phase. She first destroyed Red Dragon Archfiend with Shooting Star Dragon, and followed that up by attacking twice into Dark Resonator. Twice since Dark Resonator lives through the first battle destruction. And since Shooting Star Dragon has 3800 attack, Legio took 5000 damage.
Finally, Saffee attacked Flare Resonator with T.G. Hyper Librarian. And just after the attacks, the Field Spell changed to Mountain. Saffee was in the lead so she gained the extra Speed Counter.
Saffee ended her turn.

Legio’s turn began and he drew. And both players gained a Speed Counter.
Legio immediately used four of his to draw a card. And he summoned the card he drew, Endless Decay. Since he had 2000 or less life points, he got to special summon it, and Endless Decay’s attack is half of Saffee’s life points, so 3550. Just 50 points more than the Mountain boosted Shooting Star Dragon.
Spoiler
[collapse]
But if Legio would attack with Endless Decay, Saffee could just negate the attack. Instead he used it and Chain Resonator to Synchro summon Orient Dragon. He used its effect to banish Saffee’s Shooting Star Dragon. But because a Synchro summoning happened, while T.G. Hyper Librarian was on the field, Saffee got to draw a card.

Legio then attacked with his Orient Dragon. Thanks to Mountain, it has 2500 attack which is just enough to destroy T.G. Hyper Librarian.
Legio set his final card and ended his turn.

Saffee’s turn. She drew and they gained their Speed Counters.
She activated a semi-custom Spell Card, Synchro Return. It is actually in the anime, as a Speed Spell, but it was never printed for the TCG. At least not that I can recall. It special summons 1 banished Synchro Monster, but you have to banish it during the end phase.

She summoned back the banished Shooting Star Dragon.
Saffee then normal summoned Junk Synchron and used its effect to bring back Doppelwarrior. She used the two to Synchro summon Junk Warrior, and two Doppel Tokens. And since there were two Doppel Tokens on the field, Junk Warrior gained an extra 800 attack for a total of 3100.

Saffee attacked Orient Dragon with Shooting Star Dragon, and despite knowing it was pointless, Legio activated his set card, Mirror Force. Saffee simply negated it with her Shooting Star Dragon.
