Yugioh Card Summoner -
CH.647 Duel Runner Tournament, part 5
For the last duel of the semi-finals, we have Ray using Psychics against Legio and Red Dragon Archfiend.
For Field Spells, Ray picked Brain Research Lab; Mausoleum of the Emperor; Luminous Spark; Rising Air Current and Gaia Power.

Now since Brain Research Lab is a bit strange, I’ll quickly explain it. There admittedly isn’t all that much to it. You can use it like normal, and then when the Field Spells change, you take the damage for the counters the card has. Also, the card has separate counters for both players, so you can’t stack counters onto it, pass your turn just before the field change and burn your opponent with it. The OG version had that feature, but when I tested it, it was too good so I made it have player specific counters.
Now, as for Legio, naturally he was running Mountain. With all the Dragons and Winged Beasts flying around, it is probably the most popular Field Spell of the tournament. Resonant Destruction, which I turned into a Field Spell, Mystic Plasma Zone; Mausoleum of the Emperor and Pseudo Space.
Spoiler
[collapse]
The Resonant Destruction Field Spell was actually one of the more powerful ones available, and anyone running Resonators was using it. It was kind of the reason to run them. Because of that, it was also the most banned Field Spell in the tournament, as even through all the preliminary matches, and Resonator Red Dragon Archfiend being one of the ‘started decks’ I offered for those who didn’t have the skill to build their own deck, it has only been active in two duels. The starter variant didn’t have Red Nova Dragon, by the way. You had to actually realize it was a thing yourself if you wanted to use it. And you could have just searched ‘Red Dragon Archfiend’ in the deck builder to find it. But still, way too many competitors missed out on using one of my all time favorite Synchro monsters because they didn’t make that search.
For bans, Ray got rid of Mystic Plasma Zone and Resonant Destruction, while Legio banned Luminous Spark and Gaia Power.
The track then formed, with Mausoleum of the Emperor as the first Field Spell. The two then drew their opening hands and while both could use Mausoleum of the Emperor, it wasn’t the best for either of them.
Perhaps because of that, or just the fact that his deck was better going second, Legio didn’t accelerate with max power when the duel started. Thus Ray got the lead, the first Speed Counter, and the first turn.
Ray set a monster, as well as two face downs. Not quite a T-set pass, but pretty close.

Legio’s turn began and after his draw, both players gained a Speed Counter.
He special summoned Vice Dragon from his hand and followed that up by normal summoning Flare Resonator. He then used the two to Synchro summon Red Dragon Archfiend.

As I said when I went over the rules, I changed Red Dragon Archfiend. The og isn’t that good so I made it a bit better. It even has new art drawn by one of my painters, and I really like it. Also, since it was summoned using Flare Resonator, Red Dragon Archfiend gained an extra 300 attack.
After Ray didn’t respond to his summon, Legio activated Resonator Call and added Creation Resonator to his hand. As he did, he noticed the upcoming wall of the Field Spells and accelerated, but Ray had also noticed it and he was able to speed up in time, so when the field changed to Mountain, Ray was in the lead and gained the extra Speed Counter. But thanks to the new Field Spell, RDA gained an extra 200 attack, raising its total to 3500.
Oh, and Legio special summoned Creation Resonator from his hand.

Legio then discarded Garbage Ogre and searched for Garbage Lord. He paid 2000 life points to summon the level 5 monster. He used it and Creation Resonator to Synchro summon Stardust Dragon.

Legio moved to his battle phase, attacking Ray’s face down monster with Stardust Dragon. The attack went through just fine and Ray’s Serene Psychic Witch was destroyed. Because it was, its effect activated. Ray banished a Psychic Snail and it will get special summoned during his standby phase, unless Legio can remove Serene from the GY.

Legio then attacked directly with his Red Dragon Archfiend, and Ray took 3500 damage from the attack.
He then set 1 card face down and ended his turn.

Ray’s turn began with him drawing a card. Then during his standby phase, not only did both duelists gain a Speed Counter, but Psychic Snail was also special summoned.
Ray then normal summoned Lifeforce Harmonizer, followed by him activating one of his set cards, Psychic Tuning. With it he summoned back Serene Psychic Witch and it was now treated as a Tuner.

He tuned all three of his monsters together and Synchro summoned Overmind Archfiend. But because of Psychic Tuning, he took 1200 damage.

Ray used Overmind Archfiend’s effect to banish Serene Psychic Witch before moving into his battle phase. He attacked Stardust Dragon with Overmind Archfiend, and even with the small boost from Mountain, Stardust Dragon was no match and was destroyed. Legio took 600 damage.
Ray was then about to end his turn, but before he could, Legio activated his trap, Red Carpet. With it, he summoned back his Flare Resonator and Creation Resonator.

As the turn changed over, so did the Field Spell. And with Ray still leading the duel, he gained an additional Speed Counter. And of course both players gained one naturally during Legio’s standby phase.
With the current Field Spell being the second Mausoleum of the Emperor, you’d hope Legio would use it. But he didn’t have a monster for it, instead just having two Spells in his hand.
Legio activated one of them, Red Dragon Vase. And since he controlled ‘Red Dragon Archfiend’, or for my version of the card, ‘Red Dragon Archfiend’ or a monster that specifically mentions ‘Red Dragon Archfiend’ in its text, he got to draw 2 cards.

By the way I didn’t nerf the downsides. I already buffed the card a little, so I didn’t want to make it too powerful. So because of the downside of his own spell, and the fact that his Red Dragon Archfiend and Ray’s Overmind Archfiend were now equal in strength, Legio ended his turn.

Ray’s turn began and he drew a card. And both players gained a Speed Counter.
Ray used Overmind Archfiend’s effect to banish Psychic Snail from his GY before he normal summoned Armored Axon Kicker. Since he controlled a Psychic monster, he could do it without a tribute or the Field Spell.

He then played Emergency Teleport to special summon Psychic Commander from his deck. He tuned his Armored Axon Kicker with Psychic Commander and Synchro summoned Hyper Psychic Blaster.

Ray moved to his battle phase and declared an attack on Red Dragon Archfiend with his Overmind Archfiend. The two equally strong monsters crashed into each other and they both were sent to the graveyard, but Overmind Archfiend left a few monsters in its wake as its effect special summoned the monsters banished by its effect. Them being Psychic Snail and Serene Psychic Witch.
Ray then attacked Creation Resonator with Hyper Psychic Blaster. Naturally the Resonator was destroyed, and since Hyper Psychic Blaster inflicts piercing damage, Legio took 2400 damage. And because of the second effect of Hyper Psychic Blaster, Ray gained 2400 life.
Ray then destroyed Flare Resonator with Serene Psychic Witch, and finally attacked directly with Psychic Snail.
After the battle phase, the next Field Spell switch came, this time the field going to a lab. The Brain Research Lab to be specific. Ray was still in the lead so he got the extra Speed Counter.
Ray then removed all eight of his Speed Counters to add a Trap card from his deck to his hand. He didn’t have to reveal it to his opponent, but he did have to announce that it was a Trap and not a monster, despite both costing the same to search. He then set the trap and ended his turn.

Legio’s turn began and he drew a card. And both players gained their Speed Counters.
He used four of them to draw an extra card. He special summoned The Tricky by discarding Red Screen, before activating a tournament custom Spell. Resonant Resonators.
Spoiler
Resonant Resonators
Send any number of differently named "Resonator" monsters from your Deck to your GY; then special summon 1 "Resonator" monster with level equal to the total number of monsters sent to the GY by this card's effect, with a different name from the cards sent to the GY by this card's effect. If you cannot, it becomes your end phase and you take 2000 damage.
[collapse]
Resonant Resonators was one of those fun spells I made. It just felt appropriate since I didn’t allow something like Red Resonator. And yes it is a powerful spell, but it is also somewhat situational and potentially dangerous later in the duel, as the ‘if you cannot’ part is really punishing.
Legio sent Creation Resonator; Clock Resonator and Barrier Resonator from his deck to the GY, and special summoned Dark Resonator from his deck.

He used The Tricky and Dark Resonator to Synchro summon his second Red Dragon Archfiend. He followed that up by normal summoning Chain Resonator. And since Chain Resonator was summoned while there is a Synchro monster on the field, Legio could special summon Flare Resonator from his deck. He then double tuned his Red Dragon Archfiend to Synchro summon … well, I’ll let him tell you.

“As the Prince I accept all people. So watch as demons and a dragon tune together to form the perfect being. Synchro Summon! Roar to the heavens above, Red Nova Dragon!”

The Brain Research Lab, which was an inside space, looked quite small as Red Nova Dragon appeared. Naturally the dragon fit in there, but it honestly looked like he would break every scientific machine just by being there.
“Since I used Flare Resonator as a Synchro material, Red Nova Dragon gains 300 attack. And because of its effect, it gains 500 more attack for each Tuner monster in my graveyard. I have eight, so my Dragon gains an extra 4000 attack.”
As Legio said that, the attack point counter that was visible to the watchers, and also displayed on both duelists' duel runner's screens, climbed up, all the way to 7800.
“Battle. Red Nova Dragon, attack Serene Psychic Witch and end this duel!” Legio declared his attack.
And under the might of the Red Nova Dragon, Ray couldn’t do anything. He lost all of his life points and the duel.

The second day of my tournament ended with another show my monsters put on, and as I got my feedback from the different guilds, the second day was definitely better received than the first.
