Chapter 31: Teammate
Chapter 31: Teammate
No wonder.
Is the world really this small? These vermin are everywhere.
What kind of survival rate was this?
"Since when? Last I know, that’s never been the case."
Sasha Westwood’s mother froze before regaining her composure.
"Of course, you wouldn’t know. You don’t have a child enrolled here." She eyed Lily, a sneer forming on her face.
"You’re right. I’m a bit too young for that."
I laughed before adding. "How’s Trinity’s grades? I hope they’re not like Sasha’s, it would be a shame not to see you next year after all."
Talk to me about enrollment when you manage to produce a child who could actually graduate from here.
She kept forcing her way in, only for her kids to get kicked out for being too dumb.
Now she’s snarling, unable to hide the anger and humiliation on her face.
"Lily, you’re going to lose because you can’t participate." The little clone barked, suddenly confident with her mom around.
We’ve already attracted the attention of the other families. They were probably trying to humiliate us.
Well, good luck.
"Sure Trinity, but what’s one loss over two golds? Have you won one?" Lily asked, her eyes shining innocently.
Ouch.
Lily knows they haven’t won jack shit.
Trinity’s eyes widened, being asked in public was something she didn’t expect.
"That’s a given! You only joined the easy ones! While I joined the tough ones."
"I joined?" Lily tilted her head, her brows furrowing a bit.
Oh.
I know this face.
"Weren’t you the one that signed me up for the hardest ones?"
So she realized. I was hoping not to show her how shitty her classmates were, but she’s a Sinclair through and through.
"Didn’t you just join the horseback riding and golf driving competitions? What’s so hard about those?"
Aerial slap. That’s what it was like.
What’s funny is that Lily looked too innocent. She genuinely thought that way. Because she really could’ve fought against adults, she was good at those.
"You’re still going to shame Class 1 for not being able to participate!"
Realizing that she was cornered, Trinity resorted to screaming at Lily. She even dared to stalk towards her.
I’m not nice enough to let kids do that. And I’ve known this child.
If someone suddenly says that the Devil’s spawn had been born into the mortal world, I’d immediately assume it to be Trinity.
Alexa’s too old to fit the bill right now.
"And why would she be unable to participate?"
It was a simple question, but it sounded like a predator’s threat.
I whipped my head back. Aw. I may have overdone it, or maybe I’m just old.
Because out of nowhere came a very familiar voice.
Lucian.
Lily practically stood up in surprise. If this baby had a tail, it’d be pointing to the skies right now.
"Big Brother!"
Lily cannonballed into her brother and rubbed against him like an animal.
Relief flooded my body.
I could kiss this jerk right now. Bad idea, but I’m that glad to see his face.
I’m okay with losing. I’m no sore loser. (Lies)
But I don’t want Lily to lose with me. I want her to have a stronger footing in this school.
"Why would she be unable to participate?" Lucian asked, driving the point.
"You...What are you doing here?" Asked Trinity’s mom. She’s unsure of how to deal with Lucian.
Like anyone who’s witnessed how the Thornhills got lambasted, she should know not to linger.
"Why else? My sister and my wife are here."
Lucian looked at her like she was asking a stupid question.
From her side, Trinity seemed ready to hurl more insults unbefitting a five-year-old, but her mouth was stifled.
Humph!
As expected, they hauled ass after hearing Lucian. It wouldn’t be nice to be roasted after purposely amassing such a large audience.
Momentary peace returned and the air was cleared of that overpowering scent.
I looked at Lucian, trying to convey my anger about their malicious attempts at a young child.
The school should be a safe place, but these idiots managed to even fuck with that.
"The relay race?"
"Yeah, they signed her up for it when they thought she was going alone today." I lowered my voice, gritting my teeth in anger.
"You’re running last," I told Lucian.
Lily gave her brother a once over.
"Big Brother, we don’t have sports attire for you, will you be able to participate?"
I wanted to tell her that Lucian could win while in a suit or while in commando, but she was still a baby to be tainted with that information.
"No problem." Lucian began rolling his sleeves to just before his elbows, then took off his tie and unbuttoned his shirt.
"Lucian, tone down the show." The women around us looked like they wanted to come closer.
They’d been scooting over the moment he arrived and now they look like they’re about to jump him.
He shrugged at the warning, then as if possessed, patted the mat before laying down. His head suddenly on my lap.
I wanted to comment on his insanity, in fact, my eyebrows reacted first. But I swallowed my words when Lily exclaimed happily.
"Big Brother, I didn’t think you’d be able to come!"
The little kid vibrated and fussed over Lucian.
Lily gathered the snacks she liked and eyed me, blinking several times, hoping that I’d get the hint.
Not that I don’t get the hint. But can I not get the hint?
But when Lily started wilting upon realizing that I wasn’t planning on helping her, I succumbed.
Maybe I’m the real pushover here?
"Here"
Lucian gave me a knowing look. He finds my covert repulsion amusing.
Maybe you could choke on this cookie.
Lily began chattering about today as I continued feeding Lucian.
Her energy was suddenly boundless and she kept on re-enacting the competitions we just won.
Lucian wasn’t exactly the best audience but Lily was already elated about everything her brother did, even his nodding at her narration.
Unsurprisingly, the kid got knocked out for a forced afternoon nap. She ended up slumped on Lucian’s chest, looking all cute and angelic.
All of it would’ve been cute and harmless had it not been a major sacrifice for my legs.
"You realize that if we lose later it would be because of your giant head right?" I murmured to Lucian.
"Sure, just blame it on that and not on your short legs. I’ll do you that much favor."
Does the third teammate need to be alive to participate? Asking for a friend.
