Chapter 338: Chapter 338: After You Give Birth to the Baby, Everything Will Depend on You
Seeing Qin Ruan’s satisfied expression as she ate the pickled plum, Qin Mei, who was standing nearby, couldn’t help but notice.
He could still taste the sour and refreshing plum in his mouth, even salivating a little.
Don’t get me wrong, this wasn’t out of greed, but rather a conditioned reflex, a high-level neural activity controlled by the brain.
This kind of reflex is enhanced by continuous stimulation from the same signal, and the longer the reflex lasts, the more intense the feeling becomes.
If the reflex doesn’t continually get reinforced with stimulation, the feeling will gradually fade away and eventually disappear.
Qin Mei swallowed his saliva and took his gaze off Qin Ruan.
He was afraid if he continued watching her, he might actually start drooling.
Meanwhile, Josh had no reservations about opening his yogurt and started drinking it.
That first sip, nearly choked him.
"Damn it! Why is it so sour!"
Josh managed to swallow it down, looking at the yogurt in his hand with puzzlement all over his face.
Huo Zhi, who stood behind the three, brought a new unmarked yogurt and offered it to Qin Ruan.
After she accepted it, Huo Zhi explained to Josh, "Young Master, this is a special pregnant woman’s yogurt made for Madam."
"Pfft!"
Josh spit out his drink, quickly handed back the half-consumed yogurt to Qin Ruan.
"You should have said so earlier, I wouldn’t go as far as to steal a pregnant woman’s food."
Qin Ruan looked down, staring at the yogurt in his hand with disgust, "You already drank from it."
"Uhh..." Josh slowly retracted his hand, putting the yogurt aside on the table, swearing never to touch it again.
In his lifetime, he never wanted to drink that stuff again.
Huo Yunjiao stepped forward and wrapped Qin Ruan with a larger scarf.
His cold eyes turned to Josh, "Stop stealing food from your cousin’s wife, there’s food in the kitchen if you’re hungry."
"I won’t!"
Josh was reluctant. He had finally reached his destination, and wanted to save his stomach for the first meal of fresh fish sashimi.
Qin Ruan touched the scarf wrapped around her, looked back and said, "Why are you out here, Third Master? The sea breeze is strong at night."
The coldness in Third Master’s eyes turned warm, his voice became a lot softer, "It’s okay, I came out to talk with Second Brother, and also to tell you something."
"What is it?" Qin Ruan looked puzzled.
Third Master stood behind her, his tall body leaned slightly to ensure that Qin Ruan would not have to strain her neck when she looked up at him.
He spoke in a gentle voice, "Someone might be coming shortly, our business partner from the US."
Qin Ruan looked surprised, "This late? We’re still out at sea!"
Third Master, "Yes, according to the estimate, they should be arriving soon."
Qin Ruan, "Is there anything I need to do?"
Being openly addressed by him about this, it must not just be a heads-up.
Third Master gently laughed, his face was filled with tenderness and affection, "Don’t leave Huo Zhi’s sight, pay attention to safety, take care of yourself, the identity of the person coming is not simple."
Qin Ruan tilted her head and asked, "How complicated can it be?"
"The US arms dealer."
"Someone from the Bolin Family?" Qin Ruan guessed the identity of the person coming.
Third Master, with his hand resting on Qin Ruan’s shoulder, lightly stroked her cheek, his expression unchanged.
He spoke with a hint of casualness, "Ruanruan, you know too?"
"I know, in terms of firearms, the Huo Family in our country is second only to the famous Bolin Family in the US in terms of fame."
In West City, she would often hear those low level individuals with a bit of small influence bragging about the major powers they could never surpass to satisfy their own vanity.
Undeniably, much of what they said was true.
The Huo Family in Capital City and the Bolin Family in the US share a similar background and power.
Theoretically, they should be mortal enemies, but the two families have always been peaceful, with their respective sales territories clearly segregated.
Worry crept onto Qin Ruan’s face, "Is there going to be any danger?"
"I won’t let anything happen to you, behave."
Third Master touched her face lightly, barely making contact.
His gaze then shifted to Qin Mei and Josh, who were attentively staring at the sea.
"If you can’t catch anything, stop messing around. Old Qiang has caught a few, and we’ll have dinner soon. Let Old Qiang show off his knife skills."
Upon hearing this, Josh raised his hand in excitement, "I know about this, I’ve heard about Uncle Qiang’s knife skills from my mom. She said that Uncle Qiang once personally carried out the execution of a traitor, cutting him more than three thousand eight hundred times in a day, more cuts than historical records. What’s incredible is that Uncle Qiang made his final cut just as the traitor breathed his last, showing how advanced Uncle Qiang’s knife skills are!"
Qin Mei could imagine that bloody scene just from listening.
He imagined a person being cut over three thousand eight hundred times, thinking how much blood would be shed.
The thought of the man, who used such a brutal method to take life, personally preparing their sashimi later, made him feel sick to his stomach.
Too thrilling!
He realized that being with his little sister recently really broadened his horizons.
Qin Ruan, having listened to what Josh had to say, showed no great reaction, her face impassive.
Suddenly, she looked at the fishing rod which had a bite, a look of joy popping up on her face.
"We’ve got one!"
Qin Ruan stood up, reaching out to reel in the catch.
Third Master held her shoulder and called out, "Huo Zhi."
"At your service!"
Huo Zhi immediately stepped forward, took Qin Ruan’s position and started to reel in the line
Seeing that Qin Ruan was not happy, Third Master hugged her and whispered, "Even though this is a shallow area, there might still be large fish. If you can’t pull it up and it pulls you into the sea instead, it could be dangerous."
"Could it happen?"
Qin Ruan had never fished before, her previous hard life had not afforded her such leisure time.
She just saw the accomplishment, and wanted to experience it for herself, without thinking too much about it.
Third Master looked down at her slightly protruding belly, "It’s best to be cautious."
"Okay." Qin Ruan responded in a downcast voice.
Third Master touched her head and comforted her, "Wait until you’ve given birth, then we’ll bring you back here. We’ll stay for a while, and let you play until you’ve had enough."
"You can’t go back on your word, can you?" Qin Ruan looked up at him, her eyes sparkling with a bright smile.
Third Master softly indulged her, "I won’t go back on my word."
"Third Master, it’s a bluefin tuna."
Huo Zhi threw the over a meter long tuna onto the deck.
"My goodness! It’s so big!"
Qin Mei’s eyes were bulging. Most importantly, this fish was quite valuable.
Josh went closer, splashed by the water the tuna threw up as it flapped on the deck.
He wiped his face roughly and said resentfully, "I’m going to eat it!"
Third Master nodded to Huo Zhi, "Take it to the kitchen and give it to Old Qiang."
"Yes, Third Master!"
Huo Zhi bowed slightly, knocked out the more than a meter long tuna with a slap.
She effortlessly hoisted the hundred-something-pound fish on her shoulder and walked towards the kitchen.
As Huo Zhi was heading to the kitchen, Huo Yirong passed by her.
Looking at the bluefin tuna Huo Zhi was carrying, he couldn’t help but laugh, "Yo! This is quite a harvest."
Third Master, with his arm around Qin Ruan, turned around. His handsome face was filled with a spring-like smile, "All thanks to Ruanruan."
