Chapter 337: Chapter 337: Old Man Jiao: Girl, you’re too easy to satisfy
A few days ago, someone from the Su Family was found near Qin Ruan.
Upon discovering this, Huo Zhi reported at once, but before the Huo Family could take action, those from the Su Family voluntarily withdrew.
Master Huo spoke in a deep voice: "Tell everyone to be alert. In a few days, Madam will attend Nangong Chang’s wedding. You all must ensure her safety."
"Yes, Master!"
Huo Zhi bowed her head, her tone respectful and resolute.
Master Huo fell silent, and the room sank into an eerie tranquility.
After a while, Master Huo supported his chin with one hand and casually said, "In future, if Madam asks anything about me, just tell her the truth."
Huo Zhi blinked, stealing a glance at her elegant and exquisite master, who was calm as usual.
Nothing appeared to be amiss with him.
However, whether it was just Huo Zhi’s imagination or not, she always felt that something about him was off.
In less than two seconds of silence, Huo Zhi immediately replied, "I understand."
Master Huo’s eyes slightly drooped, "Has Ruanruan’s taste changed recently?"
Without any hesitation, Huo Zhi confirmed, "Madam recently tends to prefer sour tastes."
"Sour?" Master Huo’s eyes sparkled with amusement, "Have you prepared her favorite foods?"
"Everything has been prepared. The snacks Madam recently enjoys, even the kitchen at the back of the cabin, have been instructed to cater to Madam’s palate."
Master Huo gently nodded, "That’s good. Pay more attention to any changes in Madam’s meals and her mood. Report anything amiss."
Huo Zhi nodded, "Yes, Master."
Master Huo waved his hand, "Go to Madam. Besides resting time, try to stay by her side as much as possible to prevent any accidents."
"I will go at once!" Huo Zhi turned to leave.
Master Huo watched her retreating figure, then lazily leaned back on the couch in a relaxed pose.
He stared at the cabin ceiling, and a faint smile appeared on his handsome face. He seemed to be lost in thought.
Having lived for nearly thirty years, before the birth of his own child, he was already experiencing the feeling of raising one.
The child in Qin Ruan’s stomach was almost two months old. He wondered how lively their home would be after a few more months when the child was born.
...
Eight o’clock in the evening.
The ship finally reached its destination.
Qin Ruan, Qin Mei, and Josh eagerly began to set up their fishing equipment.
They assembled rod holders and casting rods, and waited quietly for a fish to bite.
Huo Yunjiao and Huo Yirong stood behind them, taking in their enthusiasm.
Fishing requires patience, a trait that neither Qin Mei nor Josh possessed.
Soon, their excitement faded, and they started whispering to one another.
The sea breeze tousled Qin Ruan’s hair. Her face was lit with a bright smile as she listened to her brother and Josh converse, laughter slipping out from time to time.
Master Huo told Huo Chuan who was standing beside him, "Go get the shawl and scarf from the room."
"Yes, Master." Huo Chuan turned to leave.
Looking up at the countless stars in the sky, Huo Yirong sighed, "Third Brother, when was the last time you went out?"
Huo Yunjiao couldn’t remember exactly when that was.
He replied casually, "It’s been a few years."
Huo Yirong looked at him with a smile in his eyes, "From this afternoon till now, it’s been four or five hours. It seems like there’s no problem with your body."
Master Huo paused, his health indeed hadn’t shown any signs of discomfort.
He chuckled, "It’s quite alright."
Huo Yirong’s eyes gleamed with deeper amusement. "Isn’t that a sign that your health is improving?"
Staring at Qin Ruan’s figure, Huo Yunjiao softly replied, "Perhaps."
Following his gaze, Huo Yirong guessed, "Because of Qin Ruan?"
Master Huo didn’t respond but there was a hint of a smile on his lips.
His silence was as good as admission, and Huo Yirong couldn’t help but look at Qin Ruan with suspicion upon seeing his joyous expression over the improvement in Master Huo’s health.
Just how capable was Qin Ruan? It seemed like ever since she appeared, Third Brother had changed a lot.
A while ago, when Qin Ruan had contact with Lu Han, he had known about it.
For the sake that she was Third Brother’s woman, he hadn’t instructed anyone to investigate upon finding out.
Among those Qin Ruan had contact with, some were from the Mysterious Studies World, a famous film emperor, and even members of the Rong Family’s branch.
What deserved particular attention was that her contact with Lu Han, the eldest son of the Lu Family, was not because of her relationship with the Huo Family, but because Qin Ruan herself was a member of the Mystical Sect.
"Third Brother, isn’t Qin Ruan a little too mysterious? The Huo Family has investigated her twice and found nothing about her being a member of the Mystical Sect. Given such abilities in a girl her age, it is clear that she is not as simple as she appears."
Unwillingly, Huo Yirong’s thoughts geared towards conspiracy. It was not that he held ill-intentions towards Qin Ruan, but logically, something wasn’t quite right.
A smile played on Huo Yunjiao’s cold, handsome face. "Second Brother, Ruanruan hasn’t hidden anything from me. She revealed things on her own initiative. She is a smart girl who knows to progress step by step."
An understanding look appeared in Huo Yirong’s eyes. Qin Ruan had been revealing her cards to Third Brother bit by bit. He only wondered where her mystery stemmed from.
He nodded in agreement, "Indeed, Qin Ruan is very smart. Ever since she came to the Huo Family, she has never crossed her boundaries. But, she seems to view herself as an outsider a bit too much."
Once when he was discussing the affairs of the Nangong, Su and Xiao families with Huo Qiang, Qin Ruan came in from the outside, and he invited her to sit and rest.
Not long after she sat down, she tactfully left.
It was because the topic he and Huo Qiang were discussing was how to relocate these three families out of the Capital City after the elections.
Master Huo: "One day, she will blend in. It’s a process."
Huo Yirong: "When are you planning to marry? She cannot hide her identity for much longer."
Master Huo spoke in a deep voice, "There’s no hurry, let’s wait."
They would announce their marriage when Qin Ruan wanted to claim him, to openly declare her rights to him.
Huo Chuan approached with the scarf and shawl in his arms.
"Master, the shawl that you requested—"
Under the influence of moonlight and lampshade, Master Huo extended his hand - white, clear, and distinctly knuckled, to take the scarf Huo Chuan offered him.
On the deck.
Qin Mei asked Qin Ruan who was sitting by his side, "Ruanruan, are you hungry?"
Qin Ruan’s eyes remained focused on the sea in front of her as she smoothed down her wind-tousled hair.
"I’m not hungry. Are you?"
Qin Mei patted his stomach, "A little."
Josh gazed at the Qin siblings with pleading eyes, "I’m hungry too!"
Qin Ruan retrieved the preserved plums and yogurt from her jacket and gave them to Qin Mei and Josh respectively.
Qin Mei looked at the bag containing the preserved plums, his mouth twitching at the corners.
He had tried them before and found them to be tooth-achingly sour. He could never stomach them.
He didn’t know how his little sister managed to eat something so sour.
He stuffed the preserved plums back to Qin Ruan, "You keep them to eat."
Qin Ruan sucked on one of the plums, her refined, beautiful eyes showing satisfaction.
Master Huo, who was approaching, saw her satisfied expression clearly. He couldn’t help but laugh softly.
This girl, she was far too easily pleased.
