Chapter 282: Chapter 48 The Guard Knight_1

"You idiot," The little rabbit with her back to the black horse rider didn’t see that as she stood in front of her brother, a crack suddenly opened in the ground behind her. It was as if the ground had opened a large mouth, swallowing the rider, and then the top of the crack quickly shrank, protecting the knight from being trampled. But the little rabbit saw none of this, standing with a defiant face in front of the crack, using her tiny body to block the armored bull charging towards her from fifty meters away. The incident happened so suddenly that Lina no longer had the time to use the divine spell to change the terrain. She could only watch as the distance between the armored bull and the little girl grew closer.

Lina was helpless, but Catherine wasn’t. The other party was just a competitor, not a mortal enemy, the knight spirit inside Catherine couldn’t let her stand by as the little girl walked towards death, so Catherine charged. Without considering whether she could defeat the enemy, whether she could survive by chance after saving someone, even without considering whether she can rescue the child in danger right now, the only thing in Catherine’s heart at this moment was protection. Protection of the young creature, protection of the helpless. Apart from protection, everything else had been put aside, this is the fate of a guardian knight, this is Catherine’s fate.

The long black hair burst forth once more, the silver scale armor turned into streaks of light once again, Catherine, as she had done countless times before, bravely rushed toward the hand that reached out for her help.

Everything seemed to slow down, in Catherine’s ears, she could clearly hear the anxious calls of Vivian and Lina, she could clearly see the sharp rocks protruding from the ground only to be shattered by the armored bull without any hindrance, she could see the surprised and grateful look in the eyes of the little girl in the bunny mask when she saw her rushing over. The roaring sound rang out, countless bullets rained down on the body of the armored bull, but the gunner’s restrictions were too great. Even the Gold Rank gunner could not penetrate the armor of a Legendary Rank magical beast, they could not even make it pause.

"Caught up." A slight collision filled Catherine’s heart with joy, the touch on her shoulder and the body of the little girl flying out signified the success of the rescue. At least in this moment, the little girl can live on, next up is facing the enemy.

The aggression inside Catherine was escalating crazily, the pale golden aggression was so dense that it was on the verge of becoming tangible. On her beautiful face, blue veins bulged under her wheat-colored healthy skin, she rested both arms on her shield, waiting for the impact that would come a second later.

A milky white shield was put on Catherine’s body at the last moment, seeming fragile, the shield could actually absorb a lot of impact, reducing the damage of the collision. This was Lina’s aid, the only thing others could do now.

"Bang," the collision happened. The Falcon Shield made of pure metal was first pierced by the single horn of the armored bull as if it were butter being punctured by a warm knife, leaving a shocking wound on the side of Catherine’s abdomen. Next came the bull’s head, the special head structure of the armored bull allowed them to ignore the recoiling force and collide without hesitation. The bull’s head hit the Falcon Shield, the metal shield that had accompanied Catherine for two years finally gave way under the immense pressure, twisting into a lump of scrap metal. The bull’s head continued to advance, tearing the divine spell shield and the body shielding aggression apart, finally hitting Catherine’s arms blocking its way.

With the sound of a fracturing arm bone, Catherine was thrown through the air like a kite with a cut string. The wound on her waist was torn even larger, a fountain of fresh blood gushing from it and spilling along the path of her flight.

Even while she was still in the air, a healing light cast by Lina enveloped Catherine’s body. As Catherine continued to move, the white light followed, never leaving her for a moment. Lina, who was manipulating the Divine Spells, had sweat on her forehead. Every second of this kind of healing in motion consumed a terrifying amount of mana and vitality. But Lina dared not stop, fearing that if she did, Catherine would die from the impact of landing. For this reason, Lina had to maintain a high level of concentration, not even daring to think of the individual she was healing as a living person or merely a hopeless corpse. It was not till she heard Vivian let out a long breath that Lina could slightly relax.

"Big sis should be fine, the two armored bulls slowed down in the final twenty meters, it seems Pannis succeeded." Vivian, with a gloomy expression on her face completely mismatched from her exterior, stared menacingly at the two armored bulls: "I want to kill them, I’ve never wanted something so badly."

Catherine never lost consciousness throughout. Her tenacity kept her lucid even as her body lost strength. She tried to adjust her body posture for a safe landing. However, she did not land directly on the ground. Just before she was about to hit the ground, she felt herself bouncing off something elastic. After a few bounces, all her momentum was absorbed, and she suffered no further harm. Carefully, she looked and saw that a flexible net, stretch out by four small, tread-propelled machines at each corner, had caught her fall. Catherine couldn’t help but smile. She knew this was the silent protection from her former comrades.

As Vivian said, the armored bulls had slowed down significantly in the final twenty meters, stopping completely after moving about thirty meters or so under their powerful momentum. Less than three meters from the bulls, and between them and the fallen Catherine, stood the emotionless Pannis, his left fist clenched and raised before him. He was splattered with the blood that rained from Catherine as she flew over him. He licked his lips. The blood was salty, with a bitter aftertaste.

Facing Pannis, the mad armored bulls seemed to see a terrifying prehistoric giant beast. Even their bloodshot eyes slowly cleared, and they blew thick vapors from their nostrils. After a few seconds of a standoff, the larger male maintained its alert stance, while the female lowered its head to look at the calf that had fallen when the horse rider crashed. Thanks to the rider and horse cushioning the fall, the calf was not too injured and energetically stood up after kicking out a few times, letting out a cry. The female pulled the calf away with her head and turned to leave. After a moment, the male followed, forming a certain guard on either side of the calf as they faded into the wilderness.

"Why did you charge out?" The usually expressionless Pannis approached Catherine who, with the help of the Divine Healing Spell, was struggling to sit up. He asked in a deep voice, "Do you know what would have happened to you if I hadn’t succeeded?"

"I never doubt the promise made by my family who fight back-to-back with me." Catherine was not scared by Pannis’s expression, instead, looking at him with a sunny smile on her blood-stained face. "Besides, in that moment, I truly couldn’t just watch a small life die. My instincts made me charge out. Most knights are these kind of fools and blockheads. You knew this already, didn’t you?"

"What an idiot." Pannis’s eyelid twitched. He muttered and fiercely turned around, refusing to witness Catherine’s increasingly radiant smile and twinkling eyes.

Seeing Catherine unharmed, Lina and Vivian simultaneously looked up to the sky, their lips moved slightly as they quietly thanked the deity they worshipped for its protection. After expressing her gratitude, Lina suddenly clenched her fist, walked briskly to the little girl who was stunned by the unexpected incident and sitting numbly. She yanked her up and slapped her hard twice, shouting in rage, "You damn fool, do you realize your sudden charge almost ruined our entire plan and nearly got Catherine killed? If you want to die, do it by yourself. Why drag our older sister into it?"

"I’m sorry, I’m sorry." The girl’s mask had long since flown off during the collision, revealing the innocent face typical of a child beneath. Her two sparkly eyes were already brimming with tears as she apologized, "I honestly didn’t do it on purpose. I’m sorry, I just... I just wanted to protect my brother. I’m really sorry."

"Enough, Lina. She just wanted to protect her family too." Catherine, though her hands were hanging limply by her sides, finally managed to stand. As she got away from the net completely, the four small mechanical devices on her mission united. Part of the net was retracted into each of them. Then they raced back under the luxurious carriage and crawled inside through an open hole.

"I knew she couldn’t just sit around in that carriage. Look at what she’s done to the carriage in only a couple of days." Catherine remarked with a chuckle, "Come on, Lina, quit blaming her. I’m totally okay now, aren’t I?"

"If anything had happened, it would’ve been too late." Lina was still visibly upset and snorted, "And Catherine, you’re really..."

"It’s useless to say anything." Vivian sighed, interrupting Lina, "It’s always like this. I’ve already accepted it."

"Hehe, I’ll be careful next time." Catherine stuck out her tongue like a naughty little girl and made a promise she didn’t even believe herself. She knew her words were hardly convincing, so she quickly changed the subject, "Pannis, how did you stop the armored bulls?"

Having scrutinized Catherine and realizing that she was never going to change her way, Pannis sighed despondently. "Do you remember the thing I bought from Rachel’s store with Vivian before we went to the Shining Forest?"

"The saber-tooth cat’s fangs?" Vivian recalled upon hearing this, "You mentioned wanting to make a mana blade with it, didn’t you?"

"Yes, I carried it everywhere to modify it. I didn’t expect it would prove useful here." Pannis responded, "I used a special method to escalate the terror emitted by the fangs to a superior level as if they were facing a Demigod beast. Out of instinct, the bulls regained their sanity and naturally stopped."

"Wow, it can be used like that?" Vivian was amazed, "Does this mean we don’t need to worry about magical beasts on adventures anymore if we have that fang?"

"No, it’s not that simple." Pannis opened his palm. The solid and sharp fang, following the movement of his fingers, quickly disintegrated into dust and scattered in the wind, "This is the price to cheat and escalate the intimidation level. Seems like I will need to buy the remaining one from Rachel."

"Let’s stop talking about the fang for a moment." Lina asked with a furrowed brow, "Isn’t there something important we’re forgetting?"

"You forgot about me. Now that all’s done, set me free!" (to be continued. If you like this story, please vote for it and show your support at qidian.com! Mobile users can read at m.qidian.com.)
