Chapter 1334: Chapter 120: The Unchangeable Plan

"Indeed, judging by their attitude towards living beings, the deity that originally influenced them was a very gentle one. However, I don’t think Danacus fits that description," Pannis said with a faint smile, nodding slightly, "So, for his own plan, Danacus had to hide himself, while slowly influencing the character and state of the Undead, and through various means, guiding them into a war state. Otherwise, once these Undead realize that the deity they worship has switched identities, Danacus would probably lose most of his followers and weaken significantly."

"If that’s the case, then what we need to do now should change," Lina said urgently, clutching a thick book to her chest, "We should return to the Yarran World immediately, notify the troops outside of everything we’ve discovered here. By doing that, the threat of war would effectively be over."

"Yes, that’s what you need to do," Pannis nodded, "This task is much more important than following me into the Land of the Dead. Someone must get the information out, or who knows what could happen?"

"Pannis, I want to ask you something," Catherine said, giving Pannis a sidelong glare with a sneer, "Do you think we’re all so foolish that you can deceive us this easily, creating an opportunity to get rid of us?"

"Tsk." Pannis barely concealed a grimace, showing a fleeting look of regret, but soon regained his seriousness and said firmly, "I am serious, I’m not deceiving you."

"Still struggling in vain, just give up, we won’t be fooled," Catherine said with a half-smile, "War studies and political sciences, I have studied those at the Knight Academy too, and I performed quite well. My private tutor in intelligence analysis always praised me. What else do you want to say? Hmm, if you want to go out and send a message, we can do that. Everyone goes, then everyone returns, wasting at most a day, and it wouldn’t delay anything, so, do you want to do that?"

"Big sister, it seems I was mistaken?" Hearing the exchange between Catherine and Pannis, Lina realized her mistake and asked confusedly, "Shouldn’t we inform the troops?"

"Military operations are different from our adventure team’s actions; military operations require stricter intelligence," Catherine explained quietly, "Our earlier discussions were based on two assumptions. If either of these assumptions is incorrect, then our conclusion would be wrong. The two conditions are that the information Mr. Ghost told us is true, and that our deductions are not mistaken. Which of these can we be sure about right now? In adventurous life, a fifty percent reliability of information is already enough to take a chance, but in war, that’s like sending all the troops to their deaths."

"Alright, I understand now," Lina glared at Pannis irritably and muttered fiercely before saying, "That means there really is no need to send a message outward."

"Yes, not only is it unnecessary, but it’s also inadvisable because such information could easily influence the commander’s judgment, and her decisions often affect the lives of hundreds of thousands of troops and countless living beings," Catherine nodded, "Of course, I trust General Dreide’s experience; he would never be influenced by such uncertain deductions. But the same can’t be said for other officers, and if it spreads to lower-ranking soldiers, it may cause the entire troop to waver."

"So we still need to keep it secret?" Lina asked hesitantly, "Then what should we do now?"

"Keep moving forward. Since the intelligence we’ve received can’t be confirmed as true or false, let’s verify it in our own way. According to Mr. Ghost, the Undead have established villages and towns. We’ll follow this route through the settlements, and there will be plenty of opportunities to observe the characteristics of this nascent Undead race. These Undead may lie to us or disguise themselves, but they can’t make every individual among the common people disguise themselves well. If there’s something wrong, we’ll definitely spot inconsistencies," Catherine replied confidently, then glanced at Pannis and added thoughtfully, "As for whether we are eventually going to confront the Grimreaper, I guess... Pannis would still insist on doing so and has sufficient reasons."

"Entering Danacus’s Halls of the Dead, that plan is set in stone," Pannis said with a stern face, "Leaving personal vendettas aside, from the perspective of the entire world, it is necessary. Danacus is plotting to invade and destroy the Yarran World. Maybe we’ve spotted a flaw in his plan this time, and maybe we can prevent the war from erupting, but what about next time? Furthermore, as a deity, he can continuously interfere with his followers and creations through his will. In ten or fifty years, once these Undead regain their bloodthirst and madness of the past, what will happen to the defenseless Yarran World?"

"But why not explain Danacus’s conspiracy to the Undead?" Vivian pondered, "You said, once the Undead know, Danacus will weaken from the complete loss of faith."

"The Undead were originally born from the will of the Grimreaper; whose will it belongs to doesn’t change this fact. So even if the Undead stop worshipping Danacus, he can still gradually influence his creations. Moreover, weakening is not death. To undergo decades of weakening in order to completely transform the Undead is not something unacceptable to him," Pannis sighed and shook his head, "The crux of the matter is, we can say this, but would the Undead believe us? Ask Lina, if someone came to her and said that Denia has been replaced by another identity a year or two ago, what do you think she would do?"

"Hey, can you not use my lord as an example?" Lina protested unhappily, "Such a thing is impossible."

"That’s the outcome then," Pannis shrugged, "Without factual basis, the Undead won’t believe our words and would think we are insulting their faith, and then they would turn hostile towards us."

"I support that inference," Lina nodded, "Turning hostile is a mild reaction; if the believers are grumpier, they might directly attack us on the grounds of blasphemy."

"That’s why we stick to the original plan," Pannis said, "But we can make a small change, asking these Undead to accompany us along the way."
