Chapter 1237: Chapter 23 Happy Maid Sisters

"What you did was wrong, and you mustn’t scare them anymore, do you understand?" Lina, with her hands on her hips, scolded the creature in front of her, "From now on, we’re all one family. You should listen to them just like you listen to us. You can’t bully them."

In front of the young girl, a snow-white Fox sat on the ground like a small dog, its fluffy tail swaying back and forth, its black eyes darting around agilely, curiously observing the unfamiliar surroundings. The clever Fox didn’t need to be told to guess that this place would be its paradise for future living. Therefore, it was extremely curious about everything here. If it weren’t for the girl in front, who kept talking to it and didn’t let it wander off, the little fellow might have already started joyfully inspecting its new territory.

"If you understand, go and apologize to them both." The priest girl was at her wit’s end with the innocent-looking Fox, and could only helplessly pat its large tail, pointing at Pansy and Mimosa, "From now on, they will be taking care of you. If you don’t apologize, be careful they might skimp on your food, and then we won’t help you."

"Huh?" As if understanding the girl’s words, the Fox’s ears perked up instantly; it tilted its head in thought, then scampered to Pansy’s side, looked up at the maid girl and let out a few woofing sounds, rubbing its little head against the girl’s legs, making a pleasing sound in its throat.

This time, Pansy was genuinely startled. The mansion was supposed to be the safest and warmest place in the maids’ minds, their best sanctuary. Suddenly being pounced on by an unknown thing here was more alarming than facing danger in the City of Innocence. The two young girls’ hearts were still pounding and hadn’t calmed down. But it had to be admitted that cuteness is justice, and beautiful creatures are always easy to forgive. Even though they were just frightened, once they saw the fluffy little guy clearly, their hearts were captured by the Fox, especially when it was nuzzling against their legs and its soft tail sweeping over them. Pansy felt her heart melting, struggling to resist the urge to hug it tightly and stroke it vigorously.

"Do you like small animals?" Catherine gently asked, seeing Pansy’s reaction and the envious look on Mimosa’s face, "I really didn’t expect that."

"Yes, we like them very much," the maid sisters nodded vigorously, "We always have. Only these little creatures won’t harm us, and they keep our secrets when we share our worries with them. But we didn’t dare to get too attached before because the little ones would often suddenly disappear, and it would hurt if we got too attached."

"Suddenly disappear? Okay, I understand. I’m sorry." Thinking of the harsh living conditions of the lower classes in the City of Innocence, the knight quickly grasped what ’suddenly disappear’ implied, sighed and said, "If you don’t hate it, we are relieved. It will live here with everyone from now on. You’ll be responsible for its food, but you don’t need to worry about other things, this little fellow is exceptionally clever; it will take care of itself."

"Woof." The Fox vigorously wagged its tail, its eyes squinting as if it understood Catherine’s praise, proudly making a low sound.

"By the way, I need a favor from you two," Pannis suddenly said very seriously, "Now the weather is hot, but when it gets cold in the winter, this guy will probably shed. After it sheds the fur on its tail, can you secretly cut it off to make a scarf for me? That way, I won’t be cold in the winter...remember—hee hee hee, I see through your moves, silly scarf, don’t think about pouncing on me, I... ow, who is it?"

Hearing Pannis bring up the issue of the scarf again, the fur on the Fox’s tail immediately bristled; it arched its back and growled threateningly, suddenly pouncing towards Pannis who was not far away. Pannis dodged to the side with a triumphant laugh, letting the Fox’s pounce fall short. Just as he was about to utter a mocking retort, he tripped over a magic staff suddenly placed in his path, and then the fox, in perfect coordination, pounced on him. Consequently, the two fools, as usual, began biting and tussling with each other again.

"Why did you suddenly kick my magic staff?" Vivian, who had been rolling on the lawn, was already standing to the side, pretending to be lost in thought, as if she wasn’t the one who had sneakily extended the staff. With a face full of grievance, she said, "You’re going to break my staff."

"Vivian, you’ve learned to be naughty too." Pannis let out a sorrowful wail, but it was immediately replaced by a scolding voice, "Damn scarf, you’re biting my arm again, bastard, you’ve practically chewed up all my clothes these past few days. If you dare ruin this one too, I’ll turn you into a fox fur coat, and you still dare to bite me? You’re done for now, I’m serious, ow, ow, ow, that hurts."

"His mind is off again," Catherine sighed helplessly and said, "Let’s go inside first and ignore these two fools; they’ll come in on their own once they’ve had enough of playing."

"Um, Master Catherine," seeing that Catherine was ready to enter the mansion, Pansy hesitantly called out to the knight-girl before timidly asking in a low voice, "Please, can Annie and Little Deer come back again?"

Catherine was momentarily stunned by Pansy’s question, but a few seconds later, a comforting smile spread across her face, clearly pleased with the maid sisters showing such emotion. She leaned in to pinch the maid sisters’ cheeks and asked gently, "It seems you two little ones have finally opened up your hearts and started to accept them as friends, which is why you are so worried about them, right?"

"No, no, no, not at all," the maid sisters shook their heads simultaneously, with the elder sister, Pansy, blushing and anxiously responding, "We are maids, and they are the young mistresses. We are just worried about the young mistresses like we worry about the masters."

"You don’t need to answer me, answer your own hearts, hehe, your sister here is very happy." Catherine said joyfully, ruffling the maid sisters’ hair, "Don’t worry, they are fine, it’s just that... we need some time to wake up the idiot who has been asleep for over a month, and then come up with a way to piece together that other fool who has forgotten his own make-up. Sigh, the people in this house really give me more headaches."

"Hehe." Catherine’s remark caused the maid sisters to burst into a fit of silly laughter, feeling intensely comfortable and happy in that moment.

"Happy?" Lina asked softly from behind the maid sisters, "Do you feel like you can’t leave this family anymore?"

"Yes." The maid sisters initially didn’t quite grasp the question, instinctively nodding vigorously, "We love this family the most, we truly hope it can continue like this forever."

"Then keep striving," the priest-girl said with a smile, "In your own way, continue to protect this family together, just like before."
