Chapter 1232: Chapter 18 Coordination of the Allied Forces

"Considering the current situation, rashly attacking the enemy’s frontline troops clearly isn’t the best choice," Pannis said before Flare could respond, providing his own answer: "Although our frontline troops are elite, the number of Undead is at least several times our own, and they are unaffected by the weather. They also have defensive fortifications to rely on. Blindly attacking would not only result in the needless loss of our elite troops, but it would also likely be meaningless. Therefore, the best course of action is to wait for the follow-up troops to catch up. We need at least twice the enemy’s numbers—no, double might not be enough, it should be at least three times over, and most of the war machines should be in place, including the three Colossi from the Tower of Colossus reaching the frontlines. Under such disparity between us and them, we can then launch a full-scale assault and potentially break through the enemy’s stronghold and take direct control of Death’s Gate."

"Is that many really necessary?" Flare asked with a furrowed brow, "Even if the Undead’s fortress is completed, its defensive capabilities may not truly be that strong. It seems like we could capture it without needing such a large force. Besides, I doubt the Undead could really finish the fortress in just twenty days."

"Trust the frontline commanders’ judgment. Besides, there are Dwarfs among them, and Dwarfs are construction experts, far more professional than us at estimating progress," Pannis shook his head: "Based on the marching speed, in two days, the first main force will arrive at the blockade. However, the enemy’s defensive structures will already prevent them from making normal attacks. Followed by the second main force, which is 300 kilometers behind the first and will need at least ten days to arrive at the blockade, fifteen days by a conservative estimate. By then, when the second force arrives, the Undead’s fortress will have just been completed. To overcome it will still be difficult, so we can only wait for the third force to arrive and reinforce. As for the third force, even if they’ve already set out, it will take twenty-five days to reach the targeted location. By that time, the Undead’s preparations will be even more solidified. Ha, it seems the Undead commanders are quite capable militarily, not at all inferior to our allied forces. All their moves are timed to the very limit of our possible reactions. Heh, it must be said that our response speed is still too slow."

"To be honest, getting the entire world to mobilize for war in just over a month is already quite fast," Flare sighed, "After all, it has been peaceful times up until now, some slack is inevitable. In a little over a month, assembling more than a million troops from all races, not only completing basic joint exercises but also marching to the designated locations, having achieved such speed is the result of the full cooperation of all races."

"I know, I was just lamenting, not blaming anyone. Moreover, I do not have the standing to blame anyone," Pannis said, shaking his head thoughtfully: "I was just thinking that from the Undead’s tactical planning, one can see that they’ve fully anticipated our moves."

"Can’t help it, we are facing Danacus, who has shared in some of Nellie’s knowledge," Flare said helplessly: "That fellow used to be the most admired general in the Falar Empire’s military. He knows the Yarran World’s military situation too well. It’s been just over a century; it’s not surprising he can guess all our responses."

Stroking his chin, Pannis shook his head, his eyes still uncertain, but he didn’t dwell on the matter and continued: "So, judging by the current situation, to enter into a decisive battle against the Undead, it will take at least twenty-five days. That’s the fastest we can manage."

"What if, after the arrival of the first main force, we start small-scale attacks to disrupt their fortress construction?" Flare asked, "To delay their building speed, so that when the third force arrives, they still haven’t completed it?"

"Are you sure you want to engage in harassment and attrition warfare with the Undead, who never tire or sleep?" Pannis asked with an odd look at Flare, "And judging from the Undead’s current defensive capabilities, are you sure harassment will do anything but cause troop losses, truly delaying their progress?"

"Moreover, don’t forget, you’ve already preliminarily accepted my plan and agreed to cooperate as much as possible to avoid friction between both sides before the decisive battle. The purpose of doing this is to leave room for turning back for both sides," Pannis reminded: "That also makes sense," Flare nodded: "Continue with your thoughts."

"I hope you can persuade everyone at the high-level meeting to reinforce the front according to the original pace, but not to start the war immediately upon arrival, and definitely avoid small-scale skirmishes," Pannis said: "Theoretically, even if the Undead finish building their city, they won’t provoke us first. So, as long as the allied forces don’t attack proactively, we can entirely avoid small battles and thus direct casualties."

"I understand that clear enough," Flare replied. "What else?"

"Then, like I said, whether it’s a trap or not doesn’t change the present situation much," Pannis said: "To crush the enemy, the shorter the actual fighting time, the better. Therefore, concentrating our most advantaged troops for a one-time breakthrough of the enemy’s fortress is the optimal choice. If we fail to break through in one go, the allied forces’ chances of victory might drop at least by half. So, during the execution of my plan, all sides should concentrate heavy troops on the frontline, preparing for the final battle, and once they discover I have failed or that this is indeed Danacus’ trap, to launch the final decisive battle without hesitation, at all costs seize control of the enemy fortress and temporarily control Death’s Gate."

"How can we know, your situation inside?" Flare asked seriously: "Whether you have succeeded or failed, we simply cannot grasp."

"Either I or Nellie will find a way to send a message out," Pannis pondered, "Also, we’ll agree on a specific event; if there’s no message beyond this time, then it means I have surely failed, and the full offensive plan is to be initiated. By then, there’s no longer any need to leave any room for me and Nellie’s wishes."

"That’s what you’re thinking," Flare’s face was expressionless as she asked in a low voice: "Then we just stick with the original plan of all sides, to establish a long-term blockade around Death’s Gate and eliminate all Undead that emerge, right?"

"That’s just a last resort, something we’d only consider if truly left with no choice," Pannis shrugged: "You don’t really take it seriously, do you?"

"Of course," Flare nodded expressionlessly: "Everyone knows that one side certainly has the means to reseal Death’s Gate."
