Chapter 1229: Chapter 15 Reasons
"Perhaps your idea isn’t wrong," Flare said with a headache, "but it lacks overwhelming persuasiveness. It’s merely a couple of simple sentences that, if slightly forced, could be interpreted in countless ways. You can interpret it from this angle and it seems quite logical, but it’s also possible to see it from another angle. As I said, it’s hard to persuade others with this reason, and I might not even convince myself."
"There are other reasons to support it, though," Pannis nodded. "When those little ones reminded me that the war was not over, they also gave me a gift. Guess what it was?"
"Stop joking, how could I possibly guess that?" Flare said helplessly. "A gift that makes you firmly believe that it was Nellie hinting at you? Hmm, who knows what could link anything to Nellie! I feel like, at this moment, whatever they gave you, you could relate it to Nellie. It surely can’t be wine, though. If it were wine, maybe I would actually believe it, ha-ha, that person likes wine so much that she’s willing to make it herself. Could it be... no way, was it really wine?"
Flare’s joking smile froze on her face as she saw Queen Exulting find Pannis not smiling but instead looking seriously at her, nodding. She knew Pannis would not lie to her about something so significant, and so, it indeed meant that the gift he received was wine. Just as the Queen had jokingly said a moment ago, given Nellie’s love for wine, the abrupt gift of a bottle could indeed be seen as a hint about her own identity.
"See, you also think it’s quite possible, don’t you?" Pannis smiled slightly, confident in his pursuit. "Moreover, that bottle of wine comes from Mackinway."
Flare lost her calm and gentleness, abruptly stood up, and started pacing the small room without a word, her expression changing continuously. If the Elves saw their Queen in such a restless state, they would be utterly surprised. However, Flare could indeed not settle down, as friends who were familiar with Kyle and Nellie knew, the two had vanished without warning for over half a year, and at one point, it was believed they were dead in some unknown corner. Only when they reappeared did everyone learn that they had hidden away in Mackinway Town, personally making wine, and even brought out a lot of indescribably bad batches. In the following two years, they eagerly made their uninitiated friends taste the wine they crafted, while those who knew the truth had already hide in their own realms, avoiding them from the start. The wines would eventually run out, but this experience had become a humorous tale among friends of Kyle and Nellie and was never forgotten.
"It’s still not enough, not enough," Flare muttered as she paced, her voice rising with irrepressible agitation. "More reasons are needed, Mackinway wine is not enough, it’s just one bottle. It’s not one of those she made herself, the persuasiveness is still lacking."
Pannis calmly observed the agitated Flare, not at all upset by the Queen’s suddenly harsh demeanor. He very well understood that such an attitude further indicated Flare was already persuaded of Nellie’s hint, she also dearly hoped to fulfill her old friend’s wish, hence her anxious demand for more reasons to convince other leaders.
"Sit down first, Flare," Pannis said calmly, gesturing with his hand. "Since I have made a decision, I will obviously provide you with sufficient reasons. Don’t be so agitated."
"Sorry, a lot of ideas mixed up, made me a bit out of sorts," said the Queen, twirling her green hair by her cheek, recapturing her usual gentle smile, and sitting back at the table, her voice soft. "I’m all right now, go on, I’m listening."
"My other reason is what Philarx said," Pannis continued. "You must know by now, Philarx helped us once more, and also left us a letter."
"Yes, and that also makes me completely not understand his current state," Flare nodded. "Whether he is alive or dead, where he is, or in what condition he exists, are all beyond my comprehension, and I think it’s the same for you."
"Indeed, but these aren’t important for the current issue. What’s important is, both in our last meeting and in his last letter, he intentionally emphasized that the Divine Servant’s plan could never succeed, that their efforts are destined to be a joke," Pannis narrowed his eyes, speaking with a mocking tone. "Now we know, by his mention of the Divine Servant’s plan, he was referring to their action of reopening Death’s Gate. So by current situations, Death’s Gate has opened, means their plan did indeed succeed, right?"
"Yes, it did succeed," Flare nodded. "Maybe Philarx was wrong."
"Do you think someone who managed to place a Magic Array precisely in the enemy’s den, allowing the Array to be activated at the crucial second, would make such a big mistake in predicting the future?" Pannis shook his head. "I find it hard to believe, especially with Philarx’s pride and caution; he would not allow himself to make an uncertain conclusion that would be laughed at."
"So, you believe the Divine Servant’s plan didn’t succeed?" Flare questioned, propping her chin as she sat at the table. "Or do you think it wasn’t completely successful?"
"Actually, you might have already figured it out, haven’t you?" Pannis confidently smiled, adopting the same pose and facing her. "What else could be more of a joke than expending all your strength to open a portal, only to have it become the path through which the enemy invades your lair and kills your master? Clearly, Philarx had seen the outcome, which is why he left such a definitive message."
"Let’s put this issue aside for a moment; I need to think about it," the Queen was evidently somewhat persuaded. What she needed now was just the method to convince others. Therefore, Flare didn’t dwell further on the reasons but continued, "The second issue, what do you plan to do assuming it really is Nellie inside?"
