Chapter 1202: Chapter 314 The Last Gift

"It was right here, the parchment that fell from this pillar above was shot down by Lina with an arrow." Inside the preaching hall of the Death Temple, one could still see massive piles of bodies, twisted and scattered chaotically on the ground, evoking a desolate feeling unique to battlefields. However, everyone’s attention wasn’t focused on the bodies; their presence was almost entirely ignored, with people merely avoiding stepping on them as they walked. At this moment, everyone’s attention was captivated by Vivian, holding the parchment while perched on Lina’s back. The young mage pointed at a pillar and explained to Pannis, "The situation was very chaotic then, everyone was trying to help me, so no one saw clearly. But, my attention wasn’t focused on myself, I can say I was the only one who saw the whole process. I saw the bolt fly up, then it triggered the explosion."

Pannis took the parchment from Vivian’s hands, but didn’t inspect it closely, instead setting it aside and followed the pillar the mage girl had indicated, climbing up it. The pillar was very smooth, but this clearly didn’t pose any trouble for Pannis; he wriggled around the pillar like a snake, quickly disappearing at the top of the pillar. Soon, his head emerged from a beam on the ceiling of the preaching hall, looking down, using the time and location to reconstruct the scene. However, it was clear that Pannis had quickly completed this task, rapidly disappearing from the rooftop, and reappearing back on the ground following the pillar’s shadow.

As soon as he emerged from behind the pillar, Pannis pulled out the set-aside parchment, using the light from the lamps on the walls on either side, he could see the densely packed Spell Array etched on it.

"From the complexity and power of the Array, many things are already evident." Pannis shook the parchment in his hand and said to the girls, "To be able to draw such a Spell Array, imprinting them on a fragile piece of parchment without affecting their power, just from this alone, we can conclude that the Mage who drew it certainly holds a place among the most powerful Mages in the Yarran World. I wouldn’t believe it if it wasn’t a work of Master Philarx. There might be other candidates capable of this, but as for someone who would be so frivolously mysterious in doing this, it could be no one else but him."

"Do you also think it’s Master Philarx?" Catherine asked. "We thought so, too, and, moreover, on the other side of the parchment, there is a message left for you, um, quite in Master Philarx’s style."

Pannis nodded his head, flipping the parchment over, just as Catherine had said, and sure enough, there were several neat lines of script on the back of the parchment. Even written on parchment, the script was still neat and beautiful, without any feeling of messiness.

"So it seems he’s being cryptically mysterious." Pannis made a disdainful face but immediately started examining the parchment seriously, reading the fine script attentively as if afraid of missing anything, meanwhile quietly reading out Philarx’s message.

"Congratulations, my friend, congratulations on finally breaking your years of self-imposed Seal, of course, I don’t mean in terms of power, you should understand."

"Additionally, by now you must have also realized why I said their plan could never succeed, they were doomed to fail. Hey, they indeed are the most foolish of all fools, and sadly, they only found out at the end, and only after you reminded them."

"Let’s leave their matters aside for now; there’s no need to discuss those who are dead, now let’s talk about our own matters."

"If nothing unexpected happens, for a very long time, this could be our last meeting. I had promised a final compensation, I have placed them in places you have passed."

"Go back to where you last encamped, you will naturally discover what my gift is, haha, I believe you won’t be so foolish as to not know how to use it."

"The gift is in two parts, one portion is placed where you were last encamped, and the other part where you first encamped. If you can’t find it then, perhaps it’s better not to leave here, so you don’t become a laughingstock to the world."

"With the giving of that gift, I no longer owe you, and when we meet again after crossing the lengthy span of time, let us drink a cup of green tea, I don’t know why, but not long ago or perhaps just before, that last cup of green tea tasted very off, quite too bitter, don’t you think so?"

"Regarding this parchment, I have no interest in browsing your entire expedition; I don’t care about the boring things you’ve done, it was merely a coincidence that I witnessed that scene, and even without placing this parchment, the result would have been the same, that little Thorn would still not have been able to kill her, only more troublesome perhaps. So you see, I placed it there merely to owe me a favor, not at all intending to protect her, don’t get me wrong."

"I hate owing favors to others, just as I hate others owing me favors. So, in three and a half years, when you pass by my floating island in Cammicarra Territory, meet my chief maid; those kids will encounter a bit of trouble then, you can help them out and our mutual debts will be cleanly settled."

"By the way, that child is indeed a genius, her Array is of great research value, I even regret not having taught her personally before, leaving her to that rigid old Antuin, it was simply a shameful waste."

"Since I’ve studied her Array, I ought to compensate her, so tell my chief maid, after you’ve settled her troubles, there’s a list in my study desk, I’ve written it down, instruct her to prepare a set of magic materials for you, exactly what that child urgently needs."

"Well, my friend, having said so much, it’s time to end. So, goodbye, my friend, I’ll be waiting in the distant future, for you to join me for another cup of green tea, in a different guise."

"Uh, almost forgot, say goodbye to that lion for me, and also tell him, welcome back."

"Also, I’m not crazy, you backstabbing scoundrel."

"There’s nothing more." Pannis shook the parchment in his hand and shrugged, "This bizarre fellow, why suddenly start cursing me? I didn’t say he was crazy. Really, are all mages’ minds so abnormal?"
