Chapter 1203: Chapter 315: Victor Dillie

"We’ll talk about the trust issue later, but I don’t understand why Master Fila said goodbye to Mr. Dillie," Catherine said with an uneasy complexion. "Did something happen to Mr. Dillie?"

"Why don’t we go out and see for ourselves?" Pannis pointed towards the temple’s gate a few hundred meters away. "He’s right outside, and I can sense him; his energy fluctuations are very stable, which means he’s calm right now. If there were any issues, he would’ve already caused a commotion, he wouldn’t be this peaceful. Maybe he just got bored waiting and found a place to sleep."

Despite saying that, Pannis quickly folded the parchment and put it away, striding toward the temple’s gate. It was quite clear that he cared greatly about what Fila had said, especially since it was obviously related to Dillie’s condition. After all, not long ago, Dillie alone had held off dozens of strong enemies, not only ensuring the safety of the girls but also creating an undisturbed environment for Pannis to kill all the foes. Although the enemies were not as strong as Dillie, the sheer number of sixty or seventy of them together could pose a life-threatening danger to anyone who was even slightly careless.

As he pushed open the temple’s gate, the scenery outside had not come into focus yet, but a pungent burning smell drifted in, mixed with the odor of blood. The combination was almost nauseating. The girls frowned and endured the discomfort of the smell as they followed Pannis out of the temple, and the first thing they saw was the large number of corpses on the square, and among them, the scorpion-tailed lion Dillie laying in the center.

As the afternoon wore on, the sun, lord of Huron’s Divine Kingdom, had begun to shift westward, casting light from the west onto the temple square, adding a hint of desolation to the tragic scene. Bodies lay scattered all over the square, each a grotesque testament to a torturous death, as if they had been mutilated even after death. However, as one of the few who had been inside Dillie’s Inherent Psychic Domain, the girls understood the gruesome condition of the bodies very well. Navigating around severed limbs on the ground and circumventing a massive corpse that was eight or nine meters tall, they finally reached Dillie, who lay on the ground.

Dillie lay there with his eyes closed and an air of tranquility, maintaining his usual height of five meters as he rested his huge head upon his front paws, occasionally licking his paws with his tongue, just as he often did. However, his condition was far from normal; under his massive body, a large amount of blood had pooled, forming a thick, spreading stain that enveloped nearly half his body and continued to grow, emanating a strong smell of blood.

The girls were startled by the scene before them and exchanged glances before rushing over to Dillie. As soon as they stopped, Dillie’s huge eyes slowly opened, calmly looking at the girls in front of him, and then at Pannis behind them, saying in a deep voice, "You’re finally back."

"What happened to you?" It was only upon approaching that they noticed the multitude of wounds of various sizes covering the large body of the scorpion-tailed lion, with blood seeping continuously from them. On his abdomen, which was pressed against the ground, there were several large, distressing wounds, one of which was so big that a person could crawl through, though fortunately, the internal organs had not spilled out. Of course, for a human, these wounds would indeed be exaggeratedly large, but for the immensely sized scorpion-tailed lion, they were not excessively so. Nonetheless, the blood flowing from these wounds showed no signs of stopping.

"Injured, can’t you see? But, the enemy who left these wounds are all dead, I am the ultimate victor," Dillie’s voice was deep and listless, yet with a faint hint of pride he said, "Heh heh heh, all my life I’ve been afraid of fighting, always running away, with the power of a demigod but living like trash. But this time, I finally acted like a man. This time I wasn’t scared, nor did I run. Hahaha, who would’ve thought I’d live to stand tall and proud, now let’s see who dares laugh at my cowardice."

"Yes, you’ve won, you’ve finally overcome your own fear. No one will tease you for being cowardly anymore," Pannis’s brows creased even tighter, an increasing unease in his heart, "But your injuries..."

"No choice, victory always comes at a price, and this is one of them," Dillie struggled even to shake his head, saying weakly to Lina, who was earnestly trying to cast a Divine Spell, "Don’t waste your strength. The demigod’s energy is still ravaging my body, and my wounds are too severe. I can’t disperse this destructive energy by myself anymore. Therefore, your healing is pointless, unless you can become a demigod right here and now, otherwise, you can’t help me."

"How can this be?" Lina thought back to the time on the Nightmare Islands when Pannis had mentioned something similar. Her hands trembled as she stopped casting the Divine Spell, biting her lip forcefully, "Then let me bandage you, anyway, let’s stop the bleeding first."

"Heh, I know my condition better than anyone, stopping the bleeding is useless," Dillie exhaled a breath tainted with the scent of blood, chuckling lowly, "I know, I can’t hold on much longer. But it’s okay, I’ve lived more than a hundred years, I’m already tired, it’s time for me to rest."

"There’s always a way, we can’t just give up so easily," the girls’ eyes reddened slightly, a wave of sorrow rising in their hearts. In fact, the girls were not very familiar with Dillie, having only talked a few times. If it weren’t for this expedition, they would merely be friends of friends. But having fought side by side several times during this expedition, the girls regarded him as a comrade. Now, witnessing the once mighty scorpion-tailed lion who they could only look up to, severely injured in the battle to protect them from dozens of enemies, they could only watch him grow weaker, step by step towards death, filling their hearts with bitterness and sorrow. The emotionally fragile Freya even started to cry.

However, the girls knew very well that the most distraught person was not themselves but Pannis, who personally brought Dillie into the team. At this moment, he must be in the deepest agony, equivalent to having led his friend to death. Right, Pannis! The girls quickly turned back, looking at Pannis who had remained silent all this while, finding him with his head bowed, an expressionless face, not uttering a word, and no one could tell what he was thinking.
