Chapter 375: § SHE WOULDN’T DARE §

Chapter 122

Matteo’s life as a God disguised in a mortal body was not considered as existence. It was an unspoken rule that as a God himself, he could not be associated with humans or intervene in their lives. If they did, it would only cause humans to be greedy and would cross the line.

’If you give them an inch, they would take a mile,’ in short, it would only bring irritation for Gods. And it was not like they could earn anything from intruding on the mortals. Even if he had to, the memory they had with him would perish as if it never happened.

In addition, unlike mortals, divine beings didn’t need anyone to accompany them in life. So, almost all of the Gods had no difficulty in not intervening in human life. In a nutshell, they simply didn’t care about humans.

Except for Matteo, who had fallen in love with a mortal girl. Of course, it was not forbidden or a terrible thing that could happen.

Gods could do everything they wanted. Even falling in love. They don’t have restrictions. If they wanted to destroy a world on a whim, no one could refute. So, ascending a human and rewriting their entire ’mortality’ to become a ’deity’ was not an issue in any way. It’s just the concept of romantic love was a stranger to heaven.

Matteo was not ’supposed’ to intervene in Yanarym’s fate, he was not allowed to be causing changes in her future, or anyone’s destiny. Mostly because human fate was entangled like dominos if Matteo decided to do something with Yanarym. People who were living their life with her would be affected too. It was troublesome, nevertheless, he couldn’t just turn a blind eye to the suffering of his love.

And in retrospect, the trouble he had to go through falling in love with her was nothing compared to the emotion that was stirring him up, down, left, and right.

He knew for the moment he gave her his blessing for the second time. He would be meddling in her every human business, because her future, her life, her soul, and her love would become his.

She was marked as his bride by that time he decided to temporarily take human form and defend her from the worst-case scenario of her human’s death.

Matteo gently caressed her cheeks and kissed her lips, "I promised to save you from this, Rym. Hold onto me, alright?" He whispered to her lips and had a brief gloomy smile.

Despite all of the promises he made, it was not as easy to say and do. Humans had their predestined ordeal, even Gods who could do anything won’t be able to evade fate. Matteo could only meddle and not prevent, so whether he liked it or not. He had to watch events unfold to his very eyes until he could see the moment where he could finally cut her strings of reincarnating as a mortal.

"When it is all over, I will make sure that your life with me... will never cause you misery." He mumbled, he had to find the person who bestowed curses on Yanarym and compelled them to withdraw the curse on her. If he couldn’t do that, he was afraid that he would lose her soul.

Three days later, Yanarym was staying in her deep state of slumber, and through the help of Matteo’s divine ability, she wasn’t suffering too much from the black magic. With that, she appeared to be just sleeping soundly.

Her body was enclosed into a bubble-like sphere transparent capsule, because of that he was safe from the outside danger. Inside the capsule, she was laying on a cloud-like mattress that was producing constant energy to keep her healthy state.

Lena, who heard what happened to her daughter, tried to find what kind of curse was bestowed on Yanarym. As Matteo presumed, it was not simple black magic. The hatred of the person who cursed her daughter was great. The stronger the hatred was, the more terrifying the curse could be. Moreover, there was a stake.

That person staked their life for life. Implicating that one of them could only survive this curse. Yanarym had to die or else that person would die instead.

Only not that it was strong, it was also not just a ’one’ curse. Day by day, it would add up or even multiply, it depends. As for the moment, Yanarym was suffering through unending nightmares. It was a curse of slowly engulfing the mind of the victim with torture, making them die out of excessive sadness or madness of their illusioned memory.

There was no cure for this curse. It could be stopped if the altar of the ritual was broken along with the death of the person who cursed Yanarym.

Matteo made sure that Yanarym’s body wouldn’t lack any nutrients and energy, as she was in a coma. He would bathe her and cease her seizures, and keep her comfortable. In a day he would leave her for two hours to search for the culprit of her hardship.

But in those three days, he still couldn’t find the person who was responsible for everything. Angry, frustrated, and helpless, Matteo almost unleashed his wrath to bring destruction to the whole town. Yanarym’s presence was the only thing that was keeping him tame. At this point, he could not do anything, even if he wanted to just kill her, he couldn’t. If he killed her with the curse activated, it would only devour her soul. Matteo needed her soul, without her soul she would not be able to become a deity and escape her reincarnations as a mortal.

Another week passed, Matteo wasn’t the only one who was on the verge of destroying everything he laid his eyes on as time rolled out.

Kraig had not been in himself ever since waking up from being tranquilized, he was in a stupor for days. He remembered he was summoned to the board meeting with Lyndon. They were suspended for a week but Castor, the mayor, Lyndon’s father, managed to indoctrinate the professors and board members to free the boys from severe punishment. The suspension was uplifted but they still have to do community service for the damage they inflicted to the school premises.

During those times, Kraig was very quiet, he had not confronted Lyndon nor looked for Yanarym. He was living his life but he was similar to a dead person. When Yanarym did not strive to meet with him, he was somehow grateful. He needed time, he needed to be alone, if he saw her when he was reevaluating her position in his life. He may run to her without hesitation. Forgetting about his pride, about the deception, about everything. Like when he caught her with Lyndon... he would crumble at her presence.

He was grateful, but he was miserable. He believed in her love, he believed in those moments when they were happy. He wanted to believe that it was all real, but he didn’t really know anymore. How could it be a lie? How could she pretend so well? Were the tears, the smile, the words, and actions of those moments they had were fake? How much of it was the truth? She said she was protecting him. She said he was in danger that she could not be apart from Lyndon. She said she loved him. But she loved Lyndon too. It may be outrageous but he still believed what she said.

That was why he needed time, because like this. His mind was convinced that everything was her fallacy. She was playing with him all those times but his heart believed she had reasons. If she explained, if there were excuses... he would accept it all. How stupid, how pathetic.

Unlike Kraig who seemed to slowly deteriorate from depression. Lyndon, who was in a lull and composed during those days, was actually full of vigor inside. His thoughts were filled with nothing but how to get even with Yanarym. However, he could not decide what kind of punishment he would give her. One thing for sure was each day that she was failing to show up, Lyndon’s ferocious thoughts of retaliating to his anger were becoming nastier.

If she was trying to avoid Kraig, Lyndon could understand. To get out of the messy situation that day, she needed to fabricate a lie to make a surprise. To surprise them and make them stop fighting. That was why she declared her love for them both. Lyndon was convinced it was a hoax. It was all a fabrication. She couldn’t truly love Kraig. If she dared... if she dared...

"She wouldn’t dare."

If she can’t be there physically, he was expecting a call for any explanation from her. Yet, she was unseen during those days, and cannot be reached. So, he tried waiting, he attempted to be a little patient, like a gentleman. But... he could not dawdle any longer, he had to hear. He had to clarify. That she lied.
