World After Worlds -
Chapter 368 - 368: § BROKE UP §
Kraig opened his eyes and found out he fell asleep. Guess he was tired from all of the events that happened to him. He redirected his attention to Yanarym and found her looking at him. He was stunned, his eyes flickered in astonishment.
It was a rare sight for him to see her just watching him, she smiled at him and squeezed her hands he was holding, "Hey," she said softly and leaned to give him a peck on his forehead. "You should sleep, you look tired."
"We have to talk." He fixed his posture and pulled her to his lap and leaned his head to her shoulder. "About your affair, we need to talk and straighten everything."
"If you are this sleepy, it's impossible for you to understand our conversation, sleep, I'll come back tomorrow."
"No! No." He snuggled her waist, "You're not going anywhere. I told you, you will stay here. Sleep with me tonight."
"Kraig."
"Yanarym, no. You will sleep here, sleep here…" he yawned and pulled her closer. "You will not leave me."
"But my mother will look for me."
"Mother… tsk. Who, Lyndon!?" He roared and raised his face to glare at her in the eyes. Yanarym caressed his cheeks and kissed his nose. "You can't use the same excuse on me. You will go to that bastard, am I right?!"
"Kraig, you need to rest. Or do you want to fight? Is that what you want to happen?" She circled her arms to her neck and closed her eyes as she leaned her forehead to his. "I don't want to fight with you," she added softly and brushed his hair gently.
Kraig fastened her body to his arms, "Then, you will sleep here. If you don't want to fight, you will sleep with me."
"Alright," she said, "Stop repeating yourself. You sound like a kid having a tantrum." She kissed his forehead again before backing away. "Can you let go of me now? I have to clean the table." He let go of her and stood up too, they cleaned the table and washed dishes together before going upstairs to his room. "Aren't you going to take a bath?" She asked as she took some clothes from his wardrobe.
Kraig gawked in her direction, "Should we take a bath together?" Yanarym rolled her eyes, shrugged her shoulders in response then walked to the bathroom without answering his inquiry.
Kraig smiled and sat on the bed, he looked at the side table where his mother's photo was displayed. He would always put it in the drawer but Yanarym would anyhow put it out. He took the picture frame, unconsciously recalled Lyndon's visage.
The first person that Lyndon took from him. It was his mother, Lyndon's family executed her without a prior court trial. She had an unjustified death. He didn't even know what his mother's crime was. Yet, he heard Lyndon was one of the witnesses of that supposedly 'crime'. Lyndon betrayed him, he was his friend but Lyndon murdered his mother. And now, he wanted to steal Yanarym too?
Kraig clenched his fist which resulted in the picture frame getting broken. Hearing the cracker, he regained his senses and hid the shattered frame in the second drawer. Washing his face with his palm he deeply sighed. "Let's not think about this." He muttered to himself and stood up from bed and took off his shirt and followed Yanarym to the bathroom.
Lyndon was sitting on the couch while his face was wrinkled and his eyes glowed in anger. Both of his hands were busy meandering papers and the pen that was occupying the table.
The document's report coming from left to right regarding the town's complaints was skyrocketing. He had been here from the moment he left Yanarym at the academy and the dilemma kept on stacking up. His father was already outside the Town Hall to stabilize those commotions on hand but soon after resolving the situation another issue would arise.
What happened to cause this? The town was never this chaotic for the past decades, and now… he can only think of one person who could cause all this! That bastard Kraig! Ever since Kraig appeared in the town, Lyndon's father, he had been stressed out that it was affecting his health. Even his mother was ridiculed by her friends in one of her gatherings. She can't even leave the Town Hall to stroll on the market because of some angry locals. The tax from citizens was missing by 15% and they didn't even know who took it or where it went.
"Lyndon," he directed his eyes to the old man who entered the huge hall. The old man had a very similar appearance to him, he is Lyndon's father. "You can have a rest, son. Thank you for updating the paperwork." Lyndon rose out of his chair and came over to his father, assisting him with his coat and hanging it on the rack.
"Father, I told you that you should detain Kraig. He's the reason--- I am sure that he is causing all this." He said his assumption and hurried to his father's side. "If you don't do what I am asking you then this disruption will continue."
"Son, I already investigated your friend---"
"He's not my friend! Don't call him my friend! He is nothing but a traitor!" Lyndon abruptly cut him off with a grimace expression.
That called 'friendship' was all over back then. Kraig blamed him for things that he didn't even know of, then, he turned his back on him when he needed him the most. Then, he found out that it was him---It was Kraig who dared to inflict damage to his family---Lyndon was not a saint to forgive a traitor like that. Kraig was the one who forsaken their blood oath as brothers!
And because he returned, the crisis kept on arising from the surface. Inducing this situation to his family. Although Kraig would always behave like such a 'nice' guy in front of everyone. Lyndon knew his rotten true self. Kraig was the best hypocrite he had ever met.
"Alright, calm down, son. My ears are buzzing from all of the commotions from the outside." Lyndon's father massaged his temple. While Lyndon pulled himself together, his eyes showed apparent concern for his father.
It was a well-known fact that people who could cure when they had reached the age of fifty, their health would deteriorate depending on how much power they used. His father was not getting younger, the older he got, the weaker his condition would be. And these problems were not giving him enough rest to get his health stabilized.
"You screamed? I told you not to get excited and watch out for your health."
"No, of course not, the people were angry because of the sudden increase in prices of the traders… I tried to negotiate but they weren't open for negotiation, it almost caused a riot."
"What did you do?"
"I took money from our personal safe ---"
"But that's our money! You also used it when the tax went missing. If you keep on doing that we have to live on the streets."
"Don't exaggerate son, you should take a break---" Lyndon moved back to the couch, his job was still not done and he couldn't leave this to anyone.
"No, I will stay to assist you. With you alone doing this all stuff. It would take you three days with no sleep. You're the one who should rest, your eyes are turning bloodshot." Lyndon's father laughed, although his son was barely at home, and was aloof and cold, he was still a good son. That scene was caught by Lyndon's mother as she entered with a tray of food.
"My son is so responsible, helping his father and all." Both Lyndon and his father stopped, Lyndon's father walked in her direction and kissed her on the lips.
"Mother, good evening." Lyndon stood up and gave his mother a greeting.
"Have some dinner first, I know you two haven't eaten yet." She sat down and cleaned up the table to put down the dinner, Lyndon helped her and his father walked back to his seat.
"We don't have time honey." He was about to sit down on his chair when his wife glared in his direction.
"I said eat, Castor." Her voice was calm but chilly. Lyndon knew that it gave his father goosebumps.
"Right, right, son, we eat!" He instantly moved his feet to sit on the couch with them.
As they were done setting the foods, the family began to eat, while they're at it, his mother, Eva shifted her eyes on Lyndon and smiled.
"By the way, I heard from my friend that you and Tiana were going out? Since when were you dating her?"
"We broke up." He said nonchalantly.
His parents were stunned. He just shared information regarding his life, it was his love life at that!
