Chapter 257: Chapter 15 Who is Jile
Tom and his companions were worried about another attack, so they remained vigilant throughout their journey. However, until they reached the nearest village and met with the family guard of the Arias clan there, they did not encounter the Black Armored Cavalry again.
The news of Li Yu’s attack was then sent back to Teacup Castle and the territories of the Double Rest Sect at top speed.
Miss Rabbit was furious on the spot.
The audacity of that group of Black Armored Cavalry was too great, for not only had they ventured onto her territory, but they also dared to ambush her people there.
The young girl immediately dug out her own armor and put it on. She then gathered her troops and charged toward the forest where the Black Armored Cavalry had been spotted.
After a thorough search, however, there was not a single person left to be found, but the good news was that Li Yu’s body was also nowhere to be seen. This gave Miss Rabbit some relief.
As the person who most often hung out with Li Yu, she knew all too well his ability to appear and disappear like a ghost.
He would probably show up once every two days, staying no more than a day each time before disappearing again without a trace.
By her calculations, Li Yu should have already vanished again by now, but it was uncertain whether he could return safely to the Divine Country if he had been captured.
Well, judging from the words he’d entrusted to Tom before leaving, there was probably no problem.
Even though Ireya was quite sure that Li Yu was likely already safe at home, she did not call off her troops.
The recent events were very serious. Green Field had been poor, but it was not entirely without merit. Except for the lizard people in Gai Gu Swamp who were even poorer than them, it was rare for common bandits and thieves to wander here.
Not to mention a highly skilled, well-armed professional army, which had actually infiltrated her territory without any prior indication.
The Lady needed to figure out how they had managed to do this. Besides, the people from the Double Rest Sect also had to continue searching for Li Yu and the two missing Sabbath Knights.
So everyone continued southward, arriving at the small village that Li Yu and his companions had visited before.
The villagers had never seen such a display of force. After the Dragon Slayer battle, the Family Head of the Arias clan had once again expanded his guard, and this time he brought along sixty men. With the Black Hound guard’s army arriving upon hearing the news, their numbers had already exceeded a hundred.
All were equipped with fine gear – full Dwarf Armor and iron swords gleamed with a chilling light under the torches.
Upon entering the village, the warriors didn’t say a word before driving all the villagers out of their houses and rounded them up in the open space in the center of the village.
Many people were only wearing a thin layer of clothing and shivered violently in the cold. The elderly, children, and women huddled together with expressions of fear on their faces – and of course, there were some whose eyes showed a hint of hatred upon seeing the Black Hound guard’s soldiers.
But they evidently understood that they were outmatched and outnumbered, so no one made any rash moves.
In the midst of all the chaos, a carriage stopped in front of the villagers.
Miss Rabbit pushed the carriage door open, stepped down with a stern face.
Her eyes immediately fell on a little boy not far from her, who was shivering with a runny nose. She couldn’t help but feel a twinge of compassion and thought about getting a blanket for the child, but then she remembered that Li Yu had been captured by the Black Armored Cavalry while trying to avoid being killed by these villagers, and her fleeting sympathy vanished.
"Where is Priest Jile?" the young girl cut straight to the chase.
None among the villagers replied.
"I am your Lady, and I command you to tell me where Priest Jile is," the Lady raised her voice, a tone of authority seeping through.
Still, nobody among the group spoke up.
"Very well, it seems you are resolute in defying my orders. In that case, I have no choice but to take some of you back to fill my dungeons tonight."
This time, finally, someone from the crowd stepped forward—a young man with thick eyebrows and big eyes. Yet, instead of providing the answer Miss Rabbit was waiting for, he said, "We will never hand over Priest Jile to those wicked heathens!"
"I do not care which God you worship, on my lands, anyone who breaks the law will be punished all the same," the Lady said coldly.
"What if those who err belong to the Double Rest Sect?" Another voice from the crowd spoke up.
"They, of course, will face trial as well," Ireya replied.
"Yesterday, two Sabbaths from the Double Rest Sect arrived in our village. They started by beating Priest Jile; then, they specifically demanded the two prettiest girls in our village to serve them in their bed. They threatened us, claiming if we did not comply, the Double Rest Sect would send a large army to kill us all.
"We dared not defy them and ended up sending Liss and Claire into their rooms. The next morning, when someone went in to bring food, they found Liss and Claire... they had... stopped breathing," the young man with thick eyebrows and big eyes said, his eyes reddening and voice choking up.
Claire had been his fiancée, and they had just gotten engaged not long ago. They were supposed to be married after the winter had passed, but instead, this tragedy occurred.
"Not only did they kill Liss and Claire, but they did so in a very... cruel manner. Liss and Claire suffered greatly before they died. Those despicable heathens, they’re inhuman monsters."
Miss Rabbit fell silent upon hearing this, and after a moment, she spoke again, "Where are those two Sabbaths now?"
"We killed them. I did it myself. After killing them, we burned their bodies," the young man with thick eyebrows and big eyes puffed out his chest, "If you want to arrest someone, come arrest me, but spare the other villagers, please."
At that moment, the guard who had been searching nearby returned to report to the Lady. He mentioned that two new graves had been found in the southwestern part of the village, along with some men’s clothing stained with blood. They had already been identified by members of the Double Rest Sect as belonging to the two missing Sabbaths.
These findings undoubtedly corroborated the young man’s story.
Miss Rabbit took a deep breath, realizing the complexity of the situation.
But before she could say anything, another person stepped out from the crowd. His attire was no different from that of a normal farmer, a man of about fifty or sixty, looking quite ordinary in all respects.
However, the moment he spoke, he shocked everyone.
"I am the Priest Jile you’re looking for."
"What did you say?"
"I am Jile. I am willing to go with you, but please do not trouble the others any more. They have already suffered too much in these last days. You were once a follower of the Silver Moon Goddess, I hope there is still a shred of mercy left in your heart," Priest Jile said gravely.
