Chapter 112: Chapter 28 Shipwright

The young man’s face was charged with emotion, "Jane is the only family I have left, and I promised my mother that I would take care of her. Just as long as you can save my sister, from now on, my life is yours! By the way, my name is Fitzwilliam, and I build ships! Not just merchant ships, but warships too!

"The Hound, the Orca, and even the largest warship in the history of the Weiting Family, the Sea King, were all built under my supervision, although that last one wasn’t finished before... before that incident happened, and we were all captured.

"But if you go to Crab’s Corner and ask anyone who the best shipwright is, they’ll all tell you my name. No matter what kind of ship you need in the future, I can build it for you."

"But what do I need ships for? This is the Western Frontier, and we’re hundreds of miles away from the nearest harbor."

Miss Rabbit’s remark left Fitzwilliam at a loss for words.

People from the Weiting Family had grown up by the sea since childhood; the ocean brought them wealth, nurtured them, made them strong—they never imagined that one day they would leave the sea, rendering their skills useless.

After a stunned silence, Fitzwilliam stuttered, "Then... what do you need me to do, in exchange for saving my sister?"

Ireya shook her head, "I will have the herbalist from my domain come and treat your sister. As for you... I don’t really have any requirements. Just forget about the past and live well, cultivating this land."

As the young woman spoke, she looked over at the other members of the Weiting Family, raising her voice slightly.

"The same goes for you all. As long as you are willing to work hard on the land and pay your taxes on time, I cannot promise much, but at the very least, you won’t go hungry, and there will be no prison guards to torment you. You can find peace again on this land. This is the promise from me, the Family Head of the Arias Family, the master of Green Field."

After Ireya finished speaking, she immediately had Fitzwilliam carry his sister into the castle, and then summoned the herbalist from the Arias Family to treat Jane.

However, after drinking those herbal remedies, Jane’s condition indeed improved on the first day; she began to be able to eat a little. But the next morning, she started vomiting and having diarrhea even worse than before, with mucus and pus in her stool.

Miss Rabbit decisively called for a priest from Silver Moon Church in Black Stone City.

That was an old priest who had lived for over two hundred years and had quite a reputation in the area, having treated numerous complex illnesses.

Her medical skills were unanimously recognized by both nobility and commoners, and even the Immanuel Family, the lords of Black Stone City, held her in high regard.

Anton, upon receiving the news, waited outside the castle from early in the morning.

Yet, after the old priest examined Jane’s condition and looked at the prescriptions from the herbalists, her expression became very grave, causing Fitzwilliam, who was already on edge, to grow even more anxious.

Ignoring the guards’ attempts to stop him, he rushed up to the renowned old priest of the Western Frontier and asked, "How is my sister? You can cure her, right?"

The old priest didn’t answer Fitzwilliam’s question but asked in return, "Has your sister consumed any unclean food or water before this?"

Upon hearing this, Fitzwilliam’s face revealed a hint of sorrowful anger, "Back in Rock Snow City, the guard watching over us wanted to lay his hands on my sister. She struggled fiercely, and he didn’t get his way, so he retaliated by throwing our bread on the ground, stepping on it, then giving it to us."

"For two days straight, we were so hungry that we had no choice but to pick up the bread from the ground, trying to eat the less dirty parts from the ends. But that was almost a week ago, and after eating the bread, my sister didn’t feel as terrible as she does now."

The old priest nodded, "I’m just guessing, for I’ve encountered many patients who suffered from diarrhea and fever like your sister over my years of practicing medicine, and I’ve inquired about their condition or that of their relatives and friends."

"Many of them had consumed contaminated food prior to falling ill."

After saying this, the old priest then turned to Ireya, "You must be the new master of this castle, may I have a private word with you?"

"Whatever you’re going to discuss, I want to hear it too!" Perhaps sensing something, Fitzwilliam’s expression became agitated once more.

But Miss Rabbit ignored him and had the guards drag him to the side.

Fitzwilliam howled in distress as he was taken away. Although he was a Half-Beast too, he had never practiced Martial Arts before, and after so many years in prison, his body had become extremely frail.

Despite his struggles, he couldn’t break free from the guard’s grip.

Once only Ireya and he were left, the old priest spoke again, "That child is beyond saving. From my experience, once a patient starts bleeding from the bowels and experiences difficulty breathing, it usually means their condition has deteriorated beyond the point of recovery."

"Is there really no way to save her?" Ireya could faintly hear Fitzwilliam’s cries and shouts, her heart filled with sympathy.

The plight of these siblings moved one to sympathy, with nearly all their family and friends dead, they encouraged and supported each other all along the way. They had barely made it to the western frontier, and just when they thought they could settle down, they were now facing an eternal separation.

"Priest Tessa, your medical skills are far superior to those herbalists in my territory, surely you must have some other methods, perhaps a better prescription or something..."

"Those herbalists in your territory are using the prescriptions I wrote down years ago. They are somewhat effective for patients with milder conditions, but she clearly does not fall into that category," said Priest Tessa.

"What about a blessing? We could still ask the Silver Moon Goddess to bless Jane."

"The goddess only blesses nobles," Priest Tessa reminded, "Although I do feel sympathy for them, the members of the Weiting Family are no longer nobles. And even if they were, it would be too late. The blessing ceremony requires intricate preparations, and only the High Priest can officiate it. The child won’t last until then."

Upon hearing this, Miss Rabbit sighed again.

Priest Tessa then advised, "This disease is highly contagious. The maids who took care of that child, along with anyone who has been in contact with her, should be taken to a secluded place to stay for a while. They can be brought back once it’s confirmed there’s no problem."

"Alright. I will have someone take care of it soon."

Ireya nodded in agreement, and after speaking, she realized Priest Tessa was still looking at her, "Is there anything else?"

"I’ve heard there’s been a surge of heathens in your territory recently," the old priest said after a long silence.

The young girl was taken aback, "Ah, are you referring to the lizard people? They’ve always been heathens, and their families have lived on my land for generations. It’s not like they just sprung up recently."
