Chapter 70: CEO Xu Didn’t Mind the Drama

Calix recalled Leslie’s desperate look when she informed him of her prophetic dream earlier. She urgently told him the possibility of Violet being harmed by someone tonight.

Calix’s thinking was just the same as before.

If Leslie didn’t tell him any of it for fear of being judged, Violet would be on the receiving end of the danger.

She could keep quiet and, no one would know. Yet, she still approached him, wanting him to save his friend’s lover despite she herself didn’t know the latter yet.

"My friend... Xander and I owe you our gratitude," Calix took a momentary pause. The image of a pale and unconscious Violet slipped into his mind, "His girlfriend has to thank you too but, she and Xander can’t do it so..."

Exhaling a sigh out of helplessness, Calix’s gaze on Leslie softened.

"Let me represent them to thank you, Leslie. You’ve done us a huge favor tonight. Thank you so much."

Those words gently flowed out of Calix’s mouth, bringing along his sincerity. They cast a warmth as they touch her heart.

"Hehe, I’ll receive your gratitude," Leslie chuckled, teasing Calix, "It feels good to have CEO Xu feel indebted to me."

Calix burst out laughing. The merry sound traveled in the air, out of the open sunroof.

Slightly twisting his upper body, Calix leaned one side on the comfortable car seat. His eyes remained on Leslie.

"Mrs. Xu, wake up soon ah. I’ll treat you to something. If I wanna bring you to a good restaurant, people will think I’m a lonely married man."

Leslie shook her head, laughing louder than before, "Dining alone isn’t a crime. If they dare to ask, you should tell them I’m enjoying food on behalf of my comatose wife. They won’t prolong the conversation, I bet."

"Huh! People are still talking about our marriage."

Calix and Leslie shared some laughter before it gradually faded. Later, they looked up to the sunroof, watching the calm night sky. The pink petals drifted in the air, occasionally falling inside the car.

"Will you receive that kind of dream again later?" asked Calix without looking at Leslie. His eyes wandered to the peach blossom trees.

"I’m not sure myself," Leslie replied softly. Raising a hand, she caught a petal, "It might happen again. Or, might not."

Calix pursed his lips. He wanted to know if this had happened to Leslie before but, she couldn’t inform anyone due to her astral condition.

After thinking it through, Calix decided to drop it. He didn’t want to sound as if he was interrogating Leslie.

"Hurm... it’s not even a week yet but, my days are so eventful after marrying you. Do you realize that, Leslie?"

Calix’s remarks prompted Leslie to resume laughing. Raising her brows, she asked jokingly, "So, does CEO Xu regret picking me as his bride?"

"Hahaha! Never!"

The newly wedded husband and wife continued laughing. The comfortable ambiance between them showed no traces of the previous worrisome situation.

"Haa... I don’t mind the drama," Calix shrugged nonchalantly, "But, still hope to have a peaceful weekend."

"Hehe, we can only hope for it."

"Let’s see. Come, we should go back now. It’s late already."

Calix and Leslie smiled at one another before the former started driving away from the roadside. He let the sunroof remain to be opened, noticing that she kept her eyes there.

Leslie smilingly stared at the moon. When she was little, she always thought the little ball of light followed the car she was in.

Like how Calliope was when she learned how to talk.

"Mama! Look! The moon follows us!"

Recalling the adorable memory, Leslie clasped her hands tighter. She silently prayed that Edward would bring his findings to Calix soon.

The Saturday morning was peaceful, much to Calix’s delight. To allow Leslie more freedom, he told Aunt Wendy and Uncle Raymond not to bother with their work at all.

The middle-aged spouses knew no breaks. Aunt Wendy still made Calix’s meals and cleaned the house during the weekend. The same went for Uncle Raymond with the garden.

"Aunt, Uncle, if you guys don’t listen to me, I’ll give you a month of vacation. How about that? Hurm... I heard Edward wanna send you to Luana Island for a trip. I can make it a month-long."

Under Calix’s threat, Aunt Wendy and Uncle Raymond finally relented. They were the type who couldn’t stay away from work for too long even though they were given a paid vacation.

With Aunt Wendy and Uncle Raymond staying in the annex, Leslie freely touched things while helping Calix prepare breakfast. He insisted on doing it for them.

CEO Xu prepared some congee and steamed the meat buns made by Aunt Wendy yesterday. He decided to make lunch himself too.

After having breakfast, Calix and Leslie did their own things. He sunbathed at the rooftop while she continued reading the novel in the lounge.

Until the peace was broken with two guests’ sudden appearance.

"What a sick person’s doing here? Did you drag her here?"

"I didn’t drag her here. She wants to see you."

Calix stared dumbfoundedly at the two people, Xander and Violet. The latter wore a baggy sweater, a mask and big round sunglasses. She also wore a cap to hide her face.

Violet always wore such a getup when she was with Xander outside. She said she wanted to avoid the paparazzi from taking her photos.

Xander and Calix already reassured Violet that those tabloids would go bankrupt before they released her dating news with Xander but, she still took precautions.

"...don’t you get sicker wearing like that? Quick, come in."

Mourning for his shattered dream of having peaceful Saturday, Calix invited Xander and Violet in. The actress quickly took off her mask, sunglasses and cap, taking a deep breath after the process.

Leslie had just arrived downstairs. She heard the doorbell rang earlier. Her eyes collided with Calix once he noticed her.

"You guys, go to the lounge," Calix pushed Xander from the back, urging him to bring Violet there. He kept his gaze on the confused Leslie.

"What do you guys want?" shouted Calix, "Tea? Coffee?"

"Black coffee for me," Xander replied. He glanced to his friend at the back, "Juice for Violet."

"Thank you, Calix," said Violet from Xander’s side.

"Yeah, yeah. Go sit there."

After shooing the couple away, Calix gestured to Leslie, asking her to follow him to the kitchen.

"I don’t know what they’re doing here," whispered Calix once he and Leslie were in the kitchen. He swiftly operated the coffee machine, "Geez, shouldn’t they be lovey-dovey by themselves today? Why must they come?"

Calix’s complaints prompted Leslie to laugh. She was amused by how easily he could rival the nosy aunties of the neighborhood.

"Perhaps, they want to thank you? You alerted your friend and the others last night. They might wanna talk more about it too."

Those were what Leslie had in mind. The male lead and female lead wouldn’t come if they didn’t have anything important to do.

Sigh... It was good that Violet seemed healthy. She regained her complexion, unlike how pale she was last night.

The pitiful female lead unknowingly escaped her fate of being locked up by the possessive male lead.
