Chapter 71: Annoying the Stuck-Up Male Lead

Whether Calix liked it or not, he needed to attend to the uninvited guests. The sooner he entertained them, the quicker he could kick the lovebirds out.

Relaxing! He wanted his relaxing weekend!

Despite his crooked desire, Calix still served his guests well. He brought a cup of black coffee for Xander and two glasses of orange juice for Violet and himself. A plate of strawberry macarons followed along.

"It’s not even noon yet," Calix put down the cup and glasses on the coffee table, his eyes wandered to Xander and Violet, "Shouldn’t you be resting? Both of you were so drunk last night. Especially you, Violet."

Violet laughed awkwardly while Xander immediately took a protective stance to defend his beloved.

"Don’t be harsh on her," Xander glared at Calix. He put one arm across Violet’s back, "She’s still not well."

Calix slumped on the couch opposite the lovebirds. He stared at Xander without suppressing his disdain.

"Why bring her here if she’s still not well? Are you scolding me now, huh? Have you forgotten who told you about her last night?"

Calix’s blunt remarks cast a shadow to fall on Xander’s face. Violet let out a chuckle. She playfully smacked her boyfriend’s thigh.

"Calix’s not being harsh to me," Violet grinned in helplessness, "Stop doing that. We should thank him for his immediate help last night."

"...yes."

Xander begrudgingly agreed, prompting Calix to smile smugly.

While the three people talked to each other, Leslie intently listened to them. Calix told her before that she could join them in the lounge if she wanted.

Because Leslie wanted to see the female lead and the male lead, she agreed. Lips curling up, her countenance softened as she saw Violet looking carefree.

’She looks better, yes. Thank goodness the sub-plot didn’t happen.’

Leslie sighed internally. She couldn’t imagine the heartache and angst that would result from locking up the female lead scene.

The book described the female lead Violet as a naive and kindhearted woman. She was banished from her conservative family when she decided to be an actress.

Violet’s natural innocence attracted Xander’s attention the first time they met. Like most romance novels’ male leads, he ordered his assistant to find her information.

Xander didn’t stop appearing near Violet even when Evelyn warned him not to. The latter didn’t want the young actress she adored to be involved with the cold and aloof Xander.

Hurm... Hopefully, the domineering male lead wouldn’t break the naive female lead’s wings. Also, the female lead should learn to tame the male lead’s possessive nature.

While Leslie was drawn to her own thoughts, Calix talked about the incident with Xander and Violet.

"What happened to them?" asked Calix, referring to Monica and Alex, "Have you guys come up with anything? Did you send them to the police?"

Xander and Violet glanced at each other. The hesitant look in the latter’s eyes made Calix dubious.

"What? Did you ban her from the entertainment industry? How about that man? You raided his home and tossed him to the gutter?"

"..."

Xander clamped his mouth shut, annoyed by how correctly his longtime friend guessed his moves. By his side, Violet laughed awkwardly.

Calix sighed out loud, "At least you didn’t throw both to the sharks ah. I can say this is an improvement. Then, did you sue that woman’s agency too?"

Monica was under Majestic Entertainment. Even though it was not as prestigious as XuGlam Entertainment, the company was still an old one in the industry.

Calix had a hunch that Xander wanted to bankrupt Majestic Entertainment but, Violet might stop him from doing so. Thank goodness it didn’t happen.

"That woman will stay in the industry but, she can’t rise to the top no matter what she does," replied Xander gruffly, his gaze sharpened.

Calix shrugged, not caring about it anymore.

Xander wouldn’t kick Monica out of the entertainment industry. But, she couldn’t achieve her dream of being the top actress. Only the lowest supporting character roles would be offered to her.

If Monica still wanted to succeed or drown in luxury, she either had to be a rich man’s mistress or an adult movie actress.

"Well, it’s up to you," Calix reached out for a strawberry macaron. He took a bite before saying, "You should throw them to the police. I think life in prison will teach them hard lessons."

Xander shook his head, outrightly rejecting Calix’s suggestion.

"This world will be their open-air prison. Don’t worry. I’ll handle them as I see fit."

Leslie shuddered. She couldn’t help but think how dangerous the male lead was. He simply wanted to toy and punish the offenders on his own terms.

Calix scoffed. He looked at Xander and Violet interchangeably.

"Just don’t drag me to this mess. It’s not Violet’s fault last night. But, you should be more careful from now on."

Violet nodded, understanding what Calix meant. Even though they were like friends now because of her relationship with Xander, Calix was still the CEO of Xu International, the parent company of her agency.

"I wanted her to stop attending such gatherings and stay with me, but..."

Calix immediately cut through Xander’s words.

"Don’t make her stop ah. Don’t restrict her freedom. Do you want to keep her locked inside a room? As an actress and a person, she has to socialize with people."

"...yeah, I know."

Leslie was amazed by Calix’s straightforwardness to Xander.

Was this because he was a longtime friend of the male lead? He even knew what the male lead trying to do.

Nearing noon, Calix had had enough. Leslie also was bored already. They had to watch Xander and Violet being lovey-dovey as the male kept worrying about the female lead.

"Ah! Go back home you two! Stop interrupting my weekend!"

Xander frowned while Violet laughed. She stopped him from feeding her the macaron.

"Let’s go back," Violet slowly rose to her feet. Holding Xander’s hand, she tugged at him to stand up, "Calix wants to rest too."

"Let’s go to my place," Xander glared at Calix as if scolding him for chasing them out, "I’ll order food from your favorite restaurant."

"It’s okay. I’m fine with anything. Don’t trouble yourself."

Xander loved to pamper Violet. But, sometimes it was too much until scaring the latter. She tried to assert some boundaries but, he usually crashed through them.

Calix pretended to scowl, "CEO Qin, you still can’t cook anything for your girlfriend? At least you should know how to make her favorite food ah. Do you want me to teach you?"

"Shut up."

Calix grinned, happy that he could annoy his stuck-up friend. As he sent Xander and Violet to the door, Leslie followed along.

"Cancel our meeting at Viluxs tomorrow night. I just wanna stay home," Calix waved at the couple, "Bye-bye. Let us see each other at least after one week."

Xander was irritated with his friend’s behavior but, he could do nothing about it. He and Violet were indebted to Calix due to his fast action last night.

"Yeah, yeah, I won’t disturb you," Xander rolled his eyes, "Next week, at Viluxs. No matter what, you have to come."

"If I’m not busy. CEO Qin, you’re not the only one busy here. I have my own schedule too."

"..."

Leslie held back from laughing at the funny sight of the Xander’s darkened face.

Calix really didn’t let the male lead lead him by the nose.
