Chapter 68: Keep Your Cheap Tears To Yourself

What greeted Calix and Leslie once they stepped inside was desperate cries for help. The yelling came from the man and the woman. Their limbs were bound to one chair each.

"F-forgive us! We didn’t mean harm!"

"We’re sorry! We promise we won’t do this again!"

"Help us!"

Calix narrowed his eyes, staring at the sorry state of Monica and Alex. The perpetrator and her accomplice looked at him, pleading for forgiveness.

The young actress’ appearance was disheveled. Her long hair was messy, forming knots and tangles as if she was not an actress who frequently visited hair salons to maintain her appearance.

The young man’s bathrobe exposed a large part of his chest. From the faint bruises on his skin, it was obvious he tried struggling against the bodyguards but failed.

"CEO Xu! P-please tell CEO Qin that we’re sorry," Monica stuttered with her words. Her composure was long gone, "I didn’t mean to do anything to Violet! It’s just a prank!"

Monica shuddered in fright once she saw Calix walking inside the room. She recognized who he was.

If CEO Xu was here, it meant CEO Qin might be on his way here! Or, the latter went to check on his lover before barging into this room.

It was better to beg to the approachable CEO Xu than the stern CEO Qin.

But!

Why did the friendly CEO Xu look as if he was suppressing his ferocity? His gaze was as frosty as ice, spreading its cold deep into their bones.

Ignoring their begging, Calix directed his gaze to Leslie. She was looking at the woman and the man.

"Are they the ones you saw in your dream?"

Frowning, Leslie quickly nodded. She kept her eyes on Monica and Alex, recalling the scene vividly in her mind.

These two people looked so pitiful ah while waiting for judgment.

But, they shouldn’t do something so evil if they didn’t want to be caught and punished. They only had themselves to blame.

"...huh?"

Monica and Alex blankly stared at Calix, wondering why he talked to the air. CEO Xu’s eyes were focused in one direction. Yet, none of them dared to ask questions.

Their safety was the most important thing now!

"CEO Xu! Please help us! We’re really sorry!" shouted Monica, trying to get Calix’s attention back on her and Alex, "We didn’t mean to..."

"Are you just going to parrot your words like that? Without explaining what you’re sorry about?"

Calix’s frosty voice pierced through Monica’s rambling. The actress flinched. She immediately clammed her mouth shut, sensing how terrible the young CEO’s mood was.

"T-that... I didn’t... didn’t..."

Monica tried to speak but, the weight in Calix’s glowering eyes pressured her to stop talking. Deathly coldness exuded from CEO Xu, freezing Monica’s terrified heart.

Paying no attention to Monica, Calix shifted his focus on the trembling Alex. He looked to be in his mid-20s, still so young but willing to compromise his future by doing something stupid and unlawful like this.

"You. Tell me everything about this woman’s order."

Alex was elated while Monica was terrified.

"CEO Xu, I..."

Before Monica could protest, Alex immediately seized the chance to expose the reason why she hired him.

"She’s jealous of Actress Yu! She wanted me to take pictures of her naked! She’d send the photos to CEO Qin! She wanted them to break up!"

Leslie was not surprised. This was a classic trick a cannon fodder would try doing no matter how stupid and dangerous it sounded.

The main reason? She envied the attention the powerful and aloof male lead showered on the female lead.

Sigh...

Did she and the other cannon fodders think they could have the male lead’s love all to themselves if they oust the female lead?

They should enjoy the benefits of being close to the female lead ah. The male lead might generously reward them for being kind to his lover.

"Just because of that?"

Calix’s voice pulled Leslie’s attention back to reality. She glanced at him whose expression showed how displeased he was right now. This version of him reminded her of the time he confronted Gladys.

Blood drained from Monica’s face. Her complexion became terribly pale as fear flared out to her entire body.

"He’s lying! CEO Xu, please listen to me! H-how could I harm Violet when she’s my friend?"

Calix’s lips curled into a snicker. With both hands inside the pocket of his pants, he tossed the questions back to Monica.

"Yeah. Violet’s your friend. Your heart is so stinky. How could you place your friend in such a situation? You’ll ruin her reputation."

"CEO Xu..." Tears ran down Monica’s cheeks. She softened her voice, trying to make Calix feel pity for her, "It’s a slight judgment... on my part. Please forgive me. I won’t let myself... be jealous of her again."

Monica tried to sound and act like a weeping lotus flower. Such actions benefitted her in the past as she went from one rich man to the other. CEO Xu would surely fall for her tricks, right?

But, Monica’s delusions were shattered by Calix’s cruel remarks.

"Keep your cheap tears to yourself. I won’t trouble myself with you two. My friend will take action himself."

Monica froze. Her tears stopped rolling. Blinking her eyes, she saw Calix had already turned around to leave the hotel room.

"W-wait! CEO Xu! Please! Save us!"

Alex shouted in desperation, "Listen to us! CEO Xu! We’re sorry!"

BAM!

Monica and Alex’s cries for help were cut off once Calix slammed the door shut. He showed no signs of being tolerable.

Once they were back in the hallway outside the room, Leslie peeked at Calix’s expression. Disgust marred his countenance, repulsed by the two people’s actions.

"..."

Calix noticed the concern lacing in Leslie’s eyes. Without saying a word, he gestured for her to follow him. He wanted to talk to Edward before Xander emerged from the room next door.

"Edward, I need you to do something."

Calix kept his voice low. He and Edward were talking at a spot far from the bodyguards. Yet, he still kept his eyes on the door of Violet’s room.

"Yes, boss. Ask me anything."

This was supposed to be a relaxing weekend night but, Edward could do nothing about the interruption. This was something he signed up for when agreeing to be Calix’s right-hand man.

"Fabricate the source of the news," Calix’s brows furrowed, expressing his uneasiness, "I can’t tell from whom I heard Violet might fall in this scheme. Do something about it."

Calix would try to stop Xander from probing further but, he still needed a backup plan. He wanted to prevent his friend’s suspicions from growing.

"Understand. I’ll handle it."

Edward gave a slight bow to Calix before leaving. He had to be quick in executing this plan.

Letting out a sigh, Calix told Leslie, "Let me talk to Xander and Davin first. Then, we’re going back."

"Yes."

Leslie remained in the same spot as she watched Calix heading to the hotel room where Violet was.

With this... would he start to be wary of her?

Leslie didn’t want to be pessimistic but, her current condition made her afraid of Calix alienating her.

In this vast world, aside from Mimo, she could only talk and laugh with him.
