Chapter 60: A Bug Came to Annoy Me Last Night
’What... what’s happening now?’
A confused Leslie looked at Geoffrey who suddenly had bad coughing fits. Deena frantically tried to help her husband while the helpers hurriedly cleaned the area dirtied by the tea he spat out.
"Ah, Second Uncle Geoffrey, you should drink it slowly," Calix was amused by what he was seeing, his tone carrying no pity, "You’ll hurt your throat ah."
Leslie was speechless by Calix’s action. It was plain obvious that he was happy watching Geoffrey humiliating himself.
’Did he get Edward to send the video to Geoffrey? No wonder ah!’
Leslie had almost forgotten what Calix said to her last night. He wanted to make someone’s night sleepless using the video recorded by the body camera.
Because Leslie was too preoccupied with her own sorrow, she didn’t think that Calix’s target might be Geoffrey. She initially thought he would only send it to Gladys as a warning.
Wow... CEO Xu’s method was indeed ruthless.
Rowan, Bianca and Irene were stunned watching Geoffrey’s minor suffering but, they said nothing. Leslie noticed how Irene actually tried to hold back her laughter.
During the small commotion, Old Madam Li made her appearance. She frowned right after she saw the messy scene on the dining table. The helpers were wiping a part of it.
Geoffrey was still coughing but, it had lessened than before. Deena gave him a glass of water, telling her husband to drink carefully.
"What happened?" Old Madam Li threw her gaze around before it landed on Geoffrey, "Did you choke on your drink?"
"...cough! A little bit," replied Geoffrey begrudgingly. He wanted to glare at Calix but, he didn’t want to make his resentment too obvious.
Ignoring Geoffrey who was fuming mad, Calix smiled brightly as he shifted his gaze to Old Madam Li.
"Good morning, Grandmother-in-law. I hope you had your beauty sleep last night."
Old Madam Li froze slightly, sensing how suspicious Calix’s smile was.
For some reason, the way he smiled seemed like he was enjoying this scene.
"Good morning," Old Madam Li quickly recomposed herself. She slowly sat on the seat at the head of the table, "My sleep was good. How about you, Calix? Did you find your stay here comfortable?"
Old Madam Li reminded herself not to be easily trapped by this cunning young man. Through his remarks last night, she knew he was pretending to be nice to her.
"I slept soundly. Your hospitality is great," Calix chuckled. He deliberately looked at Geoffrey, locking his eyes on the middle-aged man, "Well, actually a bug came to annoy me last night. I thought I couldn’t sleep."
"What? A bug? Was it dangerous? Did you call for the servants to assist you?"
Old Madam Li was confused. She didn’t notice how Geoffrey’s expression darkened as he realized Calix’s eyes were on him.
"Oh, it’s fine," Calix deepened his smile. He kept his gaze on Geoffrey for a moment longer before he returned his eyes to Old Madam Li, "I chased the bug myself. I think it might cry somewhere."
Old Madam Li’s confusion grew. She couldn’t understand how Calix’s mind was working. In the end, she laughed awkwardly in response.
As for Geoffrey, his face contorted so much in anger. He gripped his hands into fists, trying so hard not to shout at Calix. The young man briefly winked at him.
This scoundrel!
Once it was time to eat, Calix leisurely enjoyed his meal. Geoffrey quickly finished his breakfast before rising to his feet.
"I’ll go to work now," Geoffrey said stiffly. He made sure not to look at Calix, "Mother, I’ll see you this evening."
"Why so early?" Old Madam Li scowled. She eyed her second son’s rice bowl, "You didn’t even finish the congee. Are you full already?"
"...it’s okay. I need to go to work early today."
Calix put down his spoon. Tilting his head up, he grinned at Geoffrey, "You’re leaving now, Second Uncle? I hope you have a good day at work."
"..."
Geoffrey hurriedly left the dining room. He couldn’t stand being in the same space as Calix anymore.
Deena bit her lower lip, understanding how frustrated her husband now but, there was nothing they could do. If not, they might provoke Calix further.
Why must this young master make it hard on them?
Wasn’t it enough he made their precious daughter cry last night?
Deena subtly looked at Calix, only to flinch when he noticed it and smiled at her.
"Second Aunt Deena, continue eating ah," Calix kept behaving as if this was his home, "You’re pretty already. No need to worry much about your figure."
"...yes."
Deena shrank her neck. She timidly continued eating, knowing that she couldn’t win against the young man’s prodding.
Leslie covered her mouth. Her shoulders shook. She wanted to laugh out loud but, she didn’t want to alert Calix.
This was so funny!
CEO Xu was indeed the best!
Calix resumed eating. Satisfaction flooded his heart with the success of his plan to irritate Geoffrey and Deena further.
Once he was done, Calix glanced at Rowan and Bianca.
On one side of the table, Irene finished her milk. She kissed her parents’ cheeks before leaving the dining room, saying she would wait for Rowan outside.
"Grandmother-in-law, I should get going now," Calix shifted his gaze to Old Madam Li. He kept his tone polite, "I have an important meeting this morning."
"Oh, yes... yes," Old Madam Li replied, "This place is quite far from your company. You should head there now."
Calix rose from his seat, "You don’t have to send me off. Grandmother-in-law, Father and Mother, I’ll come to visit you again."
"Haha... yes, you should," Old Madam Li smiled stiffly, "Send my regards to your grandmother."
"I will."
Calix turned around to leave. Leslie quickly followed him. She was still giddy by the performance put on by him this morning.
"Calix, you..."
Leslie’s words were interrupted by someone.
"Brother-in-law."
Irene approached Calix once she saw him walking out of the dining room. She already wore her spring jacket and her backpack. The jacket almost drowned her petite figure.
"Oh, Irene," Calix raised his brows, "My little sister-in-law. Do you need something?"
Irene pursed her lips. She stared at Calix, hesitating with what she wanted to ask.
"What’s up?" Calix made his tone friendlier, "Anything to ask your handsome brother-in-law here?"
Calix’s words prompted Irene to laugh. Her slightly pale face was tinted with redness.
Irene was always smaller than her peers due to her sickly constitution. Even though she was healthier now, Rowan and Bianca still made extra effort to ensure her not fall ill.
Leslie quietly recalled Charlene’s memories. In them, she could see how close the relationship between sisters was.
"Brother-in-law, can you drive me to school?" asked Irene after she mustered up her courage.
Calix was amused by the request. Leslie also didn’t expect it.
"Why? Do you have a reason?" asked Calix in response.
"The most sought-after Young Master Xu is married to my sister now," Irene grinned, revealing her pearly white teeth, "I want to boast about it to my friends, can’t I?"
Irene’s answer caught Calix and Leslie off guard. The hallway was quiet for a moment until Calix’s laughter broke the silence.
