Chapter 59: Something Good Would Happen During Breakfast

"Don’t get caught if you wanna do something like that! You’re humiliating us!"

Gladys finally learned that her father’s wrath didn’t come out of nowhere. Her mother explained that someone sent a video of her trying to seduce Calix just now.

"From the angle... we think Young Master Xu wore a body cam. The sender might be himself or his assistant."

Horror washed over Gladys. She didn’t expect that her action was recorded by Calix himself!

"N-no! I didn’t mean that! I just... I just felt so wrong!"

Gladys’ pitiful look did nothing to ease Geoffrey’s rage. The extreme shame he had to bear under Calix’s ridicule infused his whole body with anger.

"Dear! Stop getting mad!" Deena shouted at Geffrey, displeased by how her husband lashed out toward Gladys, "Can’t you see how heartbroken our daughter is?"

Gladys sobbed out loud. She tightened her hug around her mother’s frame.

"Hah! How could I not get mad? That brat purposely sent us that video! He’s warning us!"

The incident had just happened but, Calix made sure Geoffrey received the video by tonight. The young man’s intention was cunning and clear.

Calix warned their family not to overstep the boundaries. This also served as a reminder, for them not to mess with his marriage.

"Sob sob... why did he do this to me? I’m not wrong! How could he pick Charlene?"

Gladys peeked her head out of Deena’s arm. She was a blotchy mess with tears staining every inch of her face.

"Dad... why don’t we tell him about her preg..."

"SHUT UP!" Geoffrey roared, breathing out fire, "Don’t you dare bring it up! Do you want to tarnish our family’s reputation? Your grandmother has warned everyone to keep it quiet! No one can know!"

Gladys quickly hid under Deena’s arms again. Her whole body shivered out of fear and embarrassment.

As the pampered princess of the Li family, Gladys had never been shamed like this. Every request she had would be fulfilled by her parents and grandmother. She only needed to say it.

The young missus envied her! The young masters yearned for her love!

How could Calix be so blind?!

Deena’s heart was torn. She spoiled her daughter so much. Seeing Gladys being ridiculed like this by Calix made her mad.

"Dear, Gladys is right," Deena softened her voice, trying to get her husband to understand her point, "If we tell Young Master Xu that Charlene’s a broken shoe, he’ll surely divorce her. We can suggest Gladys to marry him."

"Fat chance! He’ll surely use it to humiliate us further! What if he spread it to everyone? Our entire family will be a laughingstock!"

Geoffrey was irked. He couldn’t understand why his wife and daughter were this foolish.

Did they really think by exposing Charlene’s secret – something that could ruin the Li family’s name, Calix would marry Gladys instead?

"Huff! I don’t want to care anymore! You!" Geoffrey pointed his finger at Gladys, "Don’t show up for breakfast! I don’t care what you do but don’t let that brat see you! Understand?!"

"B-but... this isn’t fair," Gladys whined, "Dad... I can’t..."

"Once you show yourself in front of him, I’ll drag you and lock you here! Understand?!"

Gladys flinched. Her father was maddeningly mad right now. No matter which excuses she used, he wouldn’t listen to her.

Deena was horrified, "Dear! Geoffrey! How could you..."

"ARGH! Just stop! It’s freaking midnight!"

Geoffrey stormed out of his daughter’s bedroom, leaving a crying Gladys and a dissatisfied Deena.

As Calix wished for it, it was a long and sleepless night for Geoffrey. Deena and Gladys were also affected by his little stunt.

If only he could witness their turmoil himself, he would surely break into laughter.

The next morning.

Calix hummed while styling his hair in front of the mirror. His action garnered Leslie’s confusion. She sat on the bed while watching CEO Xu happily whistling to a tune.

"Did you dream of something good last night?" Leslie made a guess, "You came across a pot of gold?"

"Hehehe," Calix turned around to look at Leslie. Her soul state was not reflected in the mirror, "I think something good will happen during breakfast."

"...huh?"

After the episode of her crying last night, Leslie went to sleep on the bed. She faintly sensed Calix covering her body with the blanket.

When Leslie woke up, Calix was already inside the washroom. She felt both touched and embarrassed as she recalled how she cried due to the tormentous memories.

Once Calix emerged from the washroom, he immediately asked if she was alright. His consideration lifted Leslie’s mood further. He didn’t make fun of her crying last night.

"Let’s head home right after breakfast," Calix’s long and slender fingers nimbly buttoned the jacket, "It’s Friday but I won’t go to work today."

"Hehe, start your weekend early?" Leslie chuckled, "CEO Xu, won’t your assistant come looking for you later?"

"Huh, Edward will surely do that," Calix made a face. Grabbing his wallet and the phone, he glanced at Leslie, "Aren’t you hungry? Want me to ask them for some packed food?"

"No," Leslie quickly rejected, "I don’t want to eat anything here. I’ll have some once we get back."

Leslie felt a pang of hunger but, she could still endure it.

"Alright," Calix didn’t pressure Leslie. He gestured at the door, "Let’s go out."

Leslie quickly followed Calix. Neither of them spoke out they walked out of the door. The clock was showing a quarter past seven. It was still early.

"Oh, you’re up already."

Calix bumped into Rowan and Bianca. Irene was also there. The high school girl was dressed in her uniform.

"Good morning, Father, Mother, Irene," Calix smiled at them, assuming the role of a caring son-in-law, "Father, will you head to work soon? Does my little sister-in-law go to school with you?"

"Yeah. Irene’s school is only ten minutes away from here," Rowan glanced at his youngest daughter before looking at Calix again, "Did you sleep well? I hope your stay is pleasant."

"Oh, it’s great," Calix’s smile deepened, his eyes sparkling, "I’m in a good mood."

"That’s good to hear."

Rowan was actually confused seeing how happy Calix was. But, he didn’t dare to ask. Perhaps, his son-in-law was really satisfied with the first time he spent the night here.

Thus, all of them including the invisible Leslie made their way to the dining room. It was still empty but, the others showed up not long after they were seated.

Calix refrained from laughing once he saw how bad Geoffrey and Deena’s physical appearances were.

Bluish marks tainted under their eyes. They looked so dispirited as if they didn’t have any good sleep.

"Good morning, Second Uncle Geoffrey and Second Aunt Deena."

Calix’s cheery greeting made the husband and wife flinch, especially because of how he addressed them.

"...good morning, Young Master Xu," replied Geoffrey. He almost spat out those words.

Calix grinned, "Oh, don’t call me that. You’re my uncle-in-law now. We shouldn’t be so distant."

Calix spoke as if he was not the one treating Geoffrey with a degree of alienation last night.

"..."

Geoffrey’s face reddened as anger spiraled within him. Deena quickly held her husband’s hands under the table, hoping to soothe him.

Trying to ease his mood, Geoffrey grabbed the tea cup. He slowly drank the hot tea.

"Oh, Second Uncle Geoffrey," Calix’s eyes glinted with mischief, "Where’s your daughter? Won’t she have breakfast with us?"

"C-cough!"

Geoffrey almost choked. He accidentally spat out the tea.
