Chapter 551: SS1: I Was Five to Six Years Late, But...
The trip to the bamboo lake forest left a deep impression on Leslie, Calix and Calliope. The family of three enjoyed the remaining days after the spectacular night they spent on the yacht.
To Leslie’s surprise, Calix told her that the entire family, including Irene, had already known about his proposal plan. He brought it up on their last night at the bamboo forest.
"They knew?"
Leslie arched her brows, staring at Calix’s grinning face. She thought he hadn’t told anyone in their family about his plan. She also hadn’t done the same despite being excited about it.
"Yes, sweetheart," Calix chuckled as he leaned closer to Leslie, whispering above her lips, "Grandma is the most excited. She has seen the proposal videos and photos."
Before Leslie could ask anything further, Calix had already seized her lips. With Calliope sound asleep in the other room, their time together went without any disturbance.
Later that night, when Leslie was drowsy in Calix’s embrace, he said that Old Madam Xu and everyone else held back from calling to congratulate them.
"Grandma doesn’t want anyone to bother us during our trip. We’ll meet them for a meal next week."
Leslie simply nodded, too exhausted after being tossed and turned on the bed by Calix. She felt better after he helped her bathe.
Well, not that she didn’t enjoy their entanglement on the bed.
Ahem.
Soon after the family of three returned home, Leslie received congratulations from Aunt Wendy and Uncle Raymond. An exhilarated Calliope shared stories of how magical the night was.
"Papa cry with Mama ah. Poppy wanna laugh but, cannot. Hehehe~ Then Poppy dance with Papa and Mama."
Calliope chanted the stories when the family of three had dinner with Aunt Wendy and Uncle Raymond. The middle-aged couple laughed as the little dumpling entertained them.
After dinner, Leslie and Calix decided to video call Old Madam Xu. The man had informed his grandmother beforehand. The lovebirds appreciated the privacy they were given for the past few days.
Sitting together on the couch with Calliope in between, Leslie happily showed the diamond ring on her finger. Old Madam Xu, Harper and Andrian all congratulated them.
"Oh! My grandson has done the best! Look at that ring!"
"Hehe, I’d smack his head if he dared get a cheap one for our Leslie."
"Mother, my darling... Don’t smack him ah. Oh, my poor son."
The three elders’ excitement was evident through their beaming faces and voices. Leslie and Calix thanked them for their support before letting Calliope take over the conversation.
Once again, the little dumpling actively narrated the stories of the proposal. She even wiggled her little body on the couch, expressing how she danced with her parents.
Old Madam Xu, Harper and Andrian all applauded Calliope, wholeheartedly entertained by the little one. The elderly lady even asked Calliope to dance like that once they met.
"We won’t bother you until too late ah. Let’s have dinner this Friday. Don’t forget to invite Irene too. Oh, Eve should be in the country. So, everyone can join."
Leslie and Calix agreed with Old Madam Xu, understanding that the elderly lady wanted to celebrate them. Most likely, she wanted to talk about the coming wedding as well.
"Then, we’ll see you this Friday."
"Thank you, Grandma, Mom and Dad. Good night."
"Great-Grandma, Grandma and Grandpa~ Night night!"
Soon after the video call ended, Calix and Leslie started receiving congratulatory messages from the family group chat. Evelyn, Vernon and Lucille wished them a happy wedding.
At the same time, Irene also texted Calix and Leslie. The husband and wife wondered how all these people coordinated their timing so well.
"We’ll surely have a lovely wedding," Calix said when they lay on the bed that night, his mellow voice carrying his hope and sincerity.
Leslie smiled softly, her mind already conjuring how lovely their wedding was. Not only would they have Calliope with them but, they would also be surrounded by the people who cared for them.
"We will, honey," Leslie squeezed Calix’s hand, loving the feeling of his coarse yet warm palm against hers, "Hehe, just imagine how cute Poppy in her flower girl dress is."
The look in Calix’s eyes softened upon hearing Leslie’s remarks. Gently pulling her into his embrace, he whispered, "And, you’ll be the most beautiful bride ever."
Leslie’s heart fluttered in happiness as she sensed the deep adoration Calix had for her. Smiling softly, she leaned her face onto his chest, listening to the steady rhyme of his heartbeat.
In the following days, Calix’s friends came to the manor one night, intending to celebrate the news. The couple, including Calliope, welcomed their well wishes.
When Friday came, everyone in the main Xu family gathered for a celebration dinner at the ancestral home. Leslie and Calix easily became the center of attention.
"It might be five to six years late but, I’ve finally proposed to Leslie and, she said yes!"
Calix’s joke caused a ripple of hearty laughter to fill the dining room. Leslie laughed along, inwardly agreeing with her beloved’s remarks.
"Big Sister, have you thought of when to hold the wedding?" asked the excited Irene, her eyes sparkling with anticipation, "Big Brother, how about you?"
Irene’s question led the others to ask the same. Everyone wondered about the couple’s next plan after the proposal.
Leslie and Calix exchanged a look, pleased to share the news with their loved ones. As they swept their gazes around the table, the lady parted her lips, answering everyone’s curiosity.
"We’ve discussed about it. We chose this coming April."
"Ohhh!"
Irene flew her hand to her mouth, sheepishly looking at everyone else for reacting like that. Old Madam Xu, Harper, Lucille and Evelyn joined the excitement.
"April is good! It’s when the spring is in full bloom."
"April, huh? Oh, dear! We have to start planning now! Mother, we have to!"
"I’ll help with the preparation. We have around five months to prepare everything."
"I’ll surely vacate my schedule this April. Oh, have you thought of the dates?"
The ladies’ chatter elicited helpless laughter from Andrian and Vernon. They looked at Calix whose beaming face was akin to the sparkling diamond worn by Leslie.
At the same time, Calliope and Amelia gushed over the incoming wedding. The two little dumplings couldn’t help but recall the ones they had seen in the fairy tale stories.
As everyone embraced the good news with enthusiasm, Calix and Leslie smiled lovingly at one another.
