Chapter 552: SS2: Eventually, Spring Arrived
Everyone sat down for a discussion right after the celebration dinner, only to bring up a few aspects. The further planning would come along eventually.
"We’ll help with the planning, and also give your suggestions but, we’ll respect your decisions. Leslie, please don’t worry about anything."
Harper’s reassurance made Leslie so thankful. Even though she never had a wedding before, she knew how stressful the planning could be.
"Thank you so much, Mom. Grandma, everyone else..."
Leslie could only thank them. Smiling softly, she felt how the warmth in her heart intensified because of their continuous and genuine support.
She received so much love in this new world.
"Aiya, no need to thank us. Hehe, you’re one of us, Leslie. Of course, we can’t slight you and Calix from a beautiful wedding."
Old Madam Xu hugged Leslie, telling her that everyone had already treated her as one of the Xus. They couldn’t be happier once they heard about the proposal and the coming wedding.
Calix had already registered his marriage with Leslie months ago. It was done without her knowing because she was still in the coma.
The proposal and the wedding would become the next stage of their lives together, cementing the fact that they were committed in building their own little family.
As a start, Leslie and Calix discussed the venue. They wished to have an intimate wedding with their family, relatives and friends to which Old Madam Xu and the others agreed.
"Have you thought of the venue?" asked Lucille, wondering if the couple had decided on the place or not.
"Yes."
Leslie nodded, the smile on her lips softening. She and Calix collectively agreed on this venue once she brought it up a few days ago.
When Leslie glanced at Calix, she noticed his cheeks turned red. She knew everyone most likely would tease him once she mentioned the reason.
"We think of the rose garden where Calix confessed to me before[01]."
"Ohhh!"
"Hahaha! So romantic!"
Evelyn and Irene quickly teased Calix, earning a glare from the man. The others laughed along while Old Madam Xu nodded in agreement.
"A rose garden, en? That’s a wonderful choice, especially for a wedding in spring."
Thus, Harper quickly sought the service of a renowned wedding planner in the city, Madam Yun. The first appointment was swiftly set up before November ended.
"I wish to have Theresa Tan from Lavender Thread as the designer," Leslie brought up her intention on the first consultation she and Calix had with Madam Yun.
Calix had nothing else to say aside from agreeing with Leslie. He knew that his wife was already comfortable working alongside Theresa.
If she left the matter to him, he actually intended to look for a world-class bridal dress designer.
"I’d be glad to collaborate with her," Madam Yun had no objection as she put the clients’ wish as the topmost priority, "We shall set up our first meeting soon."
Mrs. Wei almost squealed when Leslie personally called her to inform her about having Theresa design the wedding dress.
"Our Theresa can! Please rest assured, Mrs. Xu. We’ll make you the most beautiful bride!"
Leslie laughed in helplessness, thinking how enthusiastic Mrs. Wei was. She thanked the boutique manager before finalizing the appointment date and time.
Despite being busy, Calix tried to get involved with the planning as much as he could. He didn’t leave everything to Leslie and Harper to deal with Madam Yun and Theresa.
Even the little dumpling Calliope was involved with the preparations, in her own adorable ways.
"Poppy will wear a beautiful dress and throw flowers with Mia? Okay! Poppy will practice from now ah!"
The excited Calliope was true to her words. Uncle Raymond had to convince her not to pluck the fresh flowers in the garden randomly for her practice.
When Calix and Leslie reviewed the guest list in early winter, she brought up a name she wished to invite to their wedding. They talked about it before going to bed.
"Mrs. Wang. How about we invite her, honey?"
"Absolutely," Calix quickly agreed, understanding the importance of Mrs. Wang’s role in Charlene’s life before, "Her family can stay with Director Li and the kids."
Calix and Leslie also extended the invitation to Director Li, the staff and the children in the orphanage. They didn’t have to worry about the transportation and accomodation at all.
The children could use this chance to have a trip out of the small town where they lived. Director Li had already approved the itinerary for visiting the city after the wedding.
Smiling at Calix, Leslie leaned over, leaving a kiss on his face. She chuckled softly, "I’ll call her then."
Leslie had shared the news of her and Calix’s upcoming wedding with Mrs. Wang during their previous phone call. The older lady sincerely wished her a blessed marriage and wedding.
Mrs. Wang was so close to a loving mother figure Charlene never had. This was the least Leslie could do.
As for Rowan, Bianca and the entire Li family, excluding Irene... none of them were invited.
Leslie didn’t mind not having many guests coming from her side if it meant not inviting the Li family. They didn’t deserve to be included in an event involving the union of two souls.
The lovebirds planned to have a staycation in the suburbs right after the wedding. This was the substitute before they headed abroad for their two-week honeymoon once summer arrived.
Their destination?
Rome, the Eternal City.
"Are you sure to bring Poppy along? She can stay with us during your honeymoon."
Harper voiced her concern once she learned of Leslie and Calix’s plan. Two weeks might be a long period but, she still hoped the newlyweds would enjoy the honeymoon between themselves.
"We’ll bring Poppy, Mom. It has been our dream."
Calix and Leslie thanked Harper for her concern before politely rejecting the decision. They indeed had envisioned taking Calliope along with them to Rome.
This time, Leslie could travel around Rome properly, unlike before. Having Calliope meant double, triple the fun.
As the months went by, the planning for Calix and Leslie’s wedding was in full swing.
Winter eventually left, making way for the gentle embrace of spring. As the first blooms of flowers signaled the arrival of spring, the excitement for the wedding became more palpable.
The wedding was finally here.
