Chapter 550: [END] A Thousand Times Over With You
"Leslie Song, my sweetheart, forever. Will you marry me?"
If there was one thing, Calix—as Axel—regretted the most, was not proposing to Leslie in their previous life.
They talked about building their life together the deeper they got into the relationship. They also discussed getting married and having children but, not anytime soon.
Axel had just started working while Leslie was still in her final year at the university. The two matters were not their priority yet.
At the same time, Axel wished to give Leslie a grand proposal and wedding. He was grateful for her presence, for being his rock and light when he was at his lowest.
To Axel, Leslie deserved nothing less.
Unfortunately, he could never realize his dreams of proposing and marrying her.
Until they were reunited in this new world.
The crisp autumn breeze returned Calix to reality as his mind registered the words spoken by Leslie.
"Y-yes! Yes... Axel, Axel Liu... My love, a thousand times, yes. I want to marry you!"
Seeing his beloved knelt before him with tears streaming down her face, his heart shivered from the mix of emotions clashing inside.
Happiness and gratitude of the recent time mixed with past regrets, reminding him to cherish this second chance with his beloved.
"T-thank you... Thank you, my love..."
Calix laughed yet, sounding raspy from his throat clogged with a lump. The glistening tears blurred his eyes but, he still saw how beautiful the smile on Leslie’s lips was.
Calix reached for Leslie’s left hand, his own fingers shaky when he picked the ring from the velvet box, sliding it through her ring finger.
The diamond caught the glow of the moonlight, sparkling like the hope they wished for their future together.
"Mama! The ring is so glowy!"
Calliope’s chirpy voice drew Leslie and Calix’s focus from each other to their little one. Their daughter was the only one with dry eyes.
Laughing in sync, Calix and Leslie pulled Calliope into their arms, having a group hug. The little dumpling giggled, being carried away by the magical moment.
"Hehe, it’s indeed glowy," Leslie chuckled. She gently pinched Calliope’s cheek, eliciting more laughter from the little dumpling as the latter admired the diamond ring, "Wanna try?"
"Hehe~ Poppy wanna try it," Calliope smiled shyly, squirming in Calix and Leslie’s hugs.
The lovebirds exchanged a helpless smile, thinking how blessed they were to celebrate this precious moment with their child.
Calliope leaned on Leslie as the lady carefully put the ring on the little dumpling’s ring. Calix watched the moment with a wider smile on his lips.
This was even better than how he imagined the night would be.
"Ooo~ Too big ah," Calliope commented, her gaze didn’t stray away from the glittering diamond, "But, so pretty. This big sparkly stone is pretty like Mama."
"Aww, thank you, my darling."
Calliope giggled when Leslie showered little kisses on her chubby face. Calix’s heart melted further seeing the adorable interaction of his wife and their daughter.
Calliope returned the ring to Leslie, once again saying the diamond was as pretty as her mama. The little dumpling received a tight hug from her mama before being embraced by her papa next.
"...music?"
Leslie tilted up her head when a soothing melody suddenly echoed, resonating with the gentle lapping of the water and the leaves rustling. She glanced at Calix who was carrying Calliope.
"Logan plays it," Calix chuckled, leaning closer toward Leslie before wrapping his free arm around her waist, "Sweetheart, may I have a dance with you?"
Blinking, Leslie nodded quickly, "Sure!"
"Yayy! Mama and Papa dance!"
Calliope bounced on her toes, the hem of her tutu skirt fluttering around her tiny frame. Calix and Leslie laughed as they slowly moved to the middle of the deck.
The yacht slowly drifted away from the dock, cutting through the glimmering surface of the lake. The melody resonated in the air, lighting the hope in one’s heart.
Calix placed one hand gently on Leslie’s waist, his other hand entwined with hers as they swayed to the rhythm. The diamond gracing her ring finger was aglow under the moonlight.
Leslie rested her other hand lightly on his shoulder, her eyes gazing into Calix’s. She held back from crying again, wishing to enjoy this moment properly with her beloved.
"Honey, thank you so much for tonight," Leslie said, her voice barely above a whisper, "A proposal? I’ve never... never imagined it."
Leslie initially thought it was another candlelight dinner surprise by Calix. Never did she imagine he actually prepared the event to propose to her instead.
"You deserve this moment, my love," Calix replied, his tone sincere as he pulled Leslie closer, "I didn’t get to do it before. So, I have to do it this time. Seeing you happy like this... it’s everything to me."
Leslie pursed her lips together, unable to say anything in response without sobbing. She eventually stopped moving, leading Calix to pull her into his embrace.
Running his fingers gently through her silky locks, Calix whispered, ever so softly, "Thank you for choosing me again, my love. Thank you. Thank you so much."
Pressing her face onto Calix’s chest, Leslie simply nodded. She grasped the sides of his jacket tightly, tremors flaring from her heart to her entire body.
"I—," Leslie choked on her tears, her voice muffled by her sobs, "Thousands of times over... I’ll choose you all over again."
Fresh tears glistened in Calix’s eyes. He tightened his arms around Leslie’s frame, relishing the immense gratitude overflowing from his heart.
He would choose her all over again too, thousands of times over.
The yacht eventually stopped in the middle of the lake, shifting from a steady glide to a serene stillness.
The strung fairy lights cast warm, golden glitters on the lake, glimmering with the silver sheen of the moon.
The music ended, replaced by another melody.
Calix and Leslie had loosened the embrace, sharing chuckles as they saw the tear streaks on each other’s faces. After rubbing their eyes dry, they looked at Calliope.
The little dumpling had been watching the grand finale, or rather, the beginning of a fairy tale. Her beaming face expressed how delighted she was with the events.
"Now, my little princess," Calix turned to Calliope with a playful bow, "May I have the honor of a dance?"
"Me?" Calliope’s eyes widened, "Really, Papa?"
"Of course, you!" Calix grinned, scooping the little dumpling up into his arms, "You’re my number one star helper for tonight!"
"Heheh~ Poppy wanna dance with Papa too!"
Leslie stepped back, her heart melting, also flooded with warmth as she watched Calix twirled Calliope around the deck. Their daughter’s giggles echoed like the sweetest music.
"Mama, look!" Calliope called out, more giggles rolling out of her mouth, "Poppy dancing with Papa!"
"You’re doing so wonderful, my darling!" Leslie replied, clapping along with the beat, "Aww~ Mama and Papa’s princess is a good dancer!"
When the music ended, Calix set Calliope back on her feet. The little dumpling immediately ran to Leslie, grabbing her hand.
"Mama, dance with Poppy!" Calliope exclaimed, her enthusiasm infectious.
"Hehe, how could Mama resist?" Leslie nodded, laughing at the little one’s antics.
Leslie took Calliope’s hands, gently guiding the little one through the steps. Calliope tried to mimic her mama’s movements, her face scrunching up in adorable concentration.
"Go! My sweethearts are the best!"
Standing on one side, Calix clapped and cheered on Leslie and Calliope. He occasionally shot a look at where Logan was standing in the shadows, signaling to ensure everything was recorded.
"Papa! Dance with Poppy and Mama!"
Calliope waved at Calix, urging her papa to join them. The man laughed before he hurriedly rushed to the two important ladies in his heart.
"Of course!"
"Hahaha!"
As the family of three laughed and danced together under the starlit sky, a profound sense of gratitude enveloped the lovebirds.
Both of them knew this moment, was a memory they would cherish forever.
Later that night, when Calix and Leslie sat on the elevated platform of the deck with a sleeping Calliope between them, she whispered gently to her beloved.
"Autumn no longer dreads me."
Understanding what his beloved meant, Calix squeezed Leslie’s hand, the diamond sheened under the moonlight, giving her a warm smile.
"All four seasons, let’s enjoy them together."
Leslie nodded, returning the same warm smile to Calix. The soft glow of the fairy lights cast a golden hue over them as they wished for a blessed future together.
