Win My Husband Over to Find My Child
Chapter 55: The Lost Jade Pendant

Chapter 55: The Lost Jade Pendant

The book only briefly described that Charlene fell down the stairs at the Li family’s ancestral home. The details of what happened hadn’t been exposed to the readers.

But...

Unfortunately, there was nothing about the incident inside Charlene’s memories as well. Leslie tried searching everywhere yet, nothing popped up.

"Did she suppress the memory?"

Frowning, Leslie crossed her arms over her chest. She couldn’t deny the possibility of it happening. Mimo had already reminded her about it.

This staircase was on the far end of the east side of the house. It was still sturdy but, traces of old age couldn’t be ignored.

Not many people used this particular staircase, including the helpers. There was no hidden security camera placed here too.

Simply put, there might be no witness at all.

"Who could it be? Where’s the pendant right now?"

Charlene simply told Leslie to get the pendant lost during this incident. Whether it was premeditated or not, the perpetrator had the gem now. Or, they might already sell it somewhere.

"A jade pendant..."

Leslie was able to recall the characteristics of the green jade pendant thanks to the recently acquired memories. It was in an opal shape with cloud-like waves carved on the surface and surname Shen on the backside.

The pendant was gifted to Charlene by her maternal grandmother before the latter’s death more than a decade ago. It became her priceless possession because the old lady treated her well unlike Old Madam Li.

"Who pushed her... or was it purely an incident?" murmured Leslie under her breath.

No matter what, the perpetrator didn’t inform anyone about Charlene falling from the stairs. She was found an hour later by two helpers who were tasked to get something there.

Leslie pursed her lips into a straight line. Unwilling to give up, she started checking the area near the staircase. If she was lucky, the buried memories might be triggered by something.

"Her head bumped here," Leslie crouched opposite a cabinet down the stairs, "Did she fall from the top of the stairs?"

Tilting up her head, Leslie looked at the staircase. It had thirty flights of stairs. Tumbling down from the top could be deathly.

Charlene was still lucky for only suffering sprained limbs and being in a coma. The doctor mentioned that she had a high probability of regaining consciousness.

Well, the author wouldn’t mean to kill her character considering she was meant to marry Calix. Perhaps, she was supposed to bring in one of the major plot twists in the book.

"...I better go back."

Somehow, Leslie suddenly felt sorry for taking Charlene’s role in this world. Even though the latter earnestly told her to, she still felt bad.

Despite being a character written by the author, Charlene still had her own life here.

"Take my body, use it to find your child and live a new life with her."

"I want to be free. You need to get into a body if you want to find your daughter. Why don’t you just transmigrate into my body and live my life? Of course, I won’t take it back from you."

"I’m tired of everything. I don’t mind what you want to do with my body and your new life. Use it to look for your child."

Charlene was adamant about her intention. She wanted nothing to do with this world anymore. Firmness and sorrow laced her tone.

With a heavy heart, Leslie left the area of the staircase. Calix should be done bathing by now. She left the room for quite some time already.

While passing by the hallway, Leslie called for Mimo. She needed to rant about it.

"Mimo, I can’t find anything. What should I do? What if I can’t find the pendant at all?"

Leslie wanted to fulfill Charlene’s requests no matter what. That was the only thing she could do after the latter agreed to let Leslie take over her body.

|You’ll find it someday, Leslie! Don’t worry ah|

"Sigh... I wonder when will I get future visions. The book surely will tell me."

Among everything Mimo told Leslie on the first day transmigrated here, she hadn’t experienced only one thing.

Getting visions regarding the future of the story. According to Mimo, they would come randomly.

At a quarter to eleven, the Li family’s ancestral home was blanketed with silence.

All of the family members had retired to their respective bedrooms including the helpers. Only a few remained, whether they needed to guard the compound or had to finish their tasks.

Leslie reached the guestroom where Calix resided shortly. She wanted to pass through the door as always before she stopped short in her tracks.

"Wait... what if he hasn’t dressed properly?"

When the thought crossed her mind, what she saw this morning resurfaced.

Morning sunlight dappled through the leaves, falling on a shirtless Calix exposing his broad chest and tapered waist.

"...no, no, let’s take a safety measure. Yes!"

To be frank, it was a sight worth seeing but, Leslie couldn’t push her bashfulness at bay. She didn’t want to make it awkward for her later on.

Sigh...

What could she do? CEO Xu was more handsome than most actors she saw on TV.

In the end, Leslie shut her eyes before covering them with both hands. Once she was ready, she started passing through the closed door.

"Calix, are you there?" yelled Leslie. She held back from opening her eyes and peeking through her fingers.

Unaware by Leslie, Calix was already in the pajamas given by Butler Yang. Squinting his eyes, he looked weirdly at her.

"...what the heck are you doing?"

"Safety measures ah!" Leslie replied with her eyes still closed, "I don’t wanna see you only with a towel. Are you in your pajamas?"

"..."

Calix refrained from knocking Leslie’s forehead. He wondered what was going on in her mind.

Sighing, Calix said in a tired voice, "Don’t play ah. Open your eyes. It’s not like you lose anything seeing my perfect body."

Leslie giggled. Once she opened her eyes, Calix’s annoyed face entered her line of sight, prompting her to laugh louder.

"Hehe, don’t be mad, CEO Xu," Leslie grinned at Calix who was lying against the headboard of the bed, "Think of your dignity ah."

Calix scoffed. Ignoring Leslie, he continued what he was doing — reading news through his phone.

Still, CEO Xu spoke to his newly wedded wife.

"Come and sit on the bed. I won’t harm you. I’ll sleep on the couch later."

Leslie blinked. She quickly shook her head, "No need. I can sleep there. You should..."

Knock! Knock!

The sudden knocking sound stopped Leslie as well as interrupted Calix’s focus on reading.

"Who is it? The family butler?" Calix murmured, slightly confused.

Leslie had a bad feeling. With her eyes on the door, she told Calix, "Let me check."

Leslie quickly went to the outside, leaving a confused Calix. Her eyes spotted the person who knocked on the door.

"What are you doing here?!"

Stunned, Gladys’ shy face was reflected in Leslie’s eyes. The former was clad in a semi-transparent night dress, paired with a silk night robe.

Leslie clicked her tongue, unable to believe what she was seeing.

Really ah... this woman played the classic seducing trick!
