Chapter 54: Wanna Duel Me Someday?
Leslie was reminded of something. Staring at Calix, she said, "I hid something in your car trunk. I don’t want them to know I took it."
Even if Calix didn’t know, Leslie had no problem hiding the diaries once they reached Graceville Manor tomorrow. She simply told him because she didn’t want to keep more secrets from him.
Unless the necessary ones she was concealing now; about her relationship with Calliope and her true self.
"...it’s not drugs, isn’t it?" Calix pretended to wince. He randomly rubbed his left arm.
"Hehe, who knows," Leslie laughed, deciding to play along with Calix’s jest, "Don’t be afraid if suddenly police stop your car later ah. Let your legal team handle it."
Calix scoffed. Turning around, he opened the windows wide, letting fresh air circulate inside the room. Then, he sat on the edge of the bed. His eyes scanned the rest of the room.
Leslie’s bedroom was much simpler than Calix expected. He didn’t know whether it was due to her taste or because of how Old Madam Li treated her and her family as a whole.
When the patriarch or matriarch disliked certain people within their own family, the outsiders wouldn’t treat them with much respect. Even the helpers working for them dared to ignore them.
Calix slipped one hand inside the pocket of his jacket. He revealed something familiar in his palm.
"Want a candy?"
Leslie was amused. She reached out for the strawberry candy, "Thanks, CEO Xu."
Both of them tore the wrappers before popping the sweets into their mouths. A short yet comfortable silence enveloped them before Calix spoke.
"I never asked you," Calix refrained from bringing up the topic he was thinking about just now. Tilting his head, he eyed Leslie with faint curiosity, "What do you do? I mean, is there anything you love to do? Your hobby, perhaps?"
When Edward brought details related to Leslie to Calix, he only learned very little about her. It seemed as if she existed only in the background.
Calix got to know that Leslie worked at the city library instead of any of the Li Corporation business. She had a degree in human resources management but, took the certificate to be a library support staff after finishing her undergraduate study.
Hearing Calix’s question jogged Leslie’s recently acquired memories. She leaned her hip against the vanity table, her gaze fell on the young man.
"Hobbies... I love cooking and baking," Leslie’s lips melted into a smile, "I like making food. It gives me satisfaction."
Leslie loved cooking dishes or baking cookies and cakes for her dear Calliope.
As for Charlene, she tended to do it for herself and her younger sister Irene.
Either cooking or baking, both required love and heart.
And...
Leslie’s passion for creating dishes and crafting sweets was the very thing that made her and Axel close. Aside from loving crocheting, her deceased lover liked to work in the kitchen as well.
More often than not, Leslie and Axel cooked or baked together if they had the time for it.
Well... those were old memories.
Even though Leslie had decided to move on from Axel, it didn’t mean she would let those memories fade.
After all, he used to be a part of her life, the one who brought happiness to her when she thought she only deserved sorrow.
Calix’s lips formed a grin, unaware of Leslie’s inner turmoil. He raised one of his brows, "Wanna duel with me someday? I can do both. Let’s see who makes the best ones."
Leslie’s eyelashes fluttered. Calix’s words reminded her of Axel’s cooking challenges. It was something he used to do.
"Hehe," Leslie’s giggles echoed gently inside the bedroom, she nodded, "Okay, when Aunt Wendy isn’t in the kitchen. I don’t want to scare her."
Calix and Leslie shared laughter before they were engaged in a random conversation. They didn’t stay inside the room for long. CEO Xu couldn’t stand the lingering overwhelming scent of the perfume.
They, or rather, Calix met Butler Yang when he was admiring the yard from the windows in the hallways.
"Young Master Xu, your room is ready," Butler Yang politely gestured in a direction, "Let me escort you there."
"Okay."
Calix and Leslie followed Butler Yang. The old man brought them to the northeast side of the house. One of the guestrooms was opened for the young man’s overnight stay.
Butler Yang told Calix that he prepared a hot water bath for the latter. His change of clothes was hung inside the wardrobe.
"May you have a good rest, Young Master Xu. Please call us if you need anything."
"I will. Thank you."
Once Calix closed the door, he let out a deep sigh while loosening the necktie. Leslie tried to hold back her laughter but failed.
"Hehe, mentally exhausted now?" asked Leslie, feeling sorry for Calix, "You better go to sleep soon. It’s not like you have things to do here."
Calix glanced at the clock. The time was approaching ten in the evening.
"Hurm... it’s still early but, you’re right," Calix sighed again, "I don’t wanna go out of this room. Who knows if that Geoffrey guy wants to talk to me?"
Leslie shrugged. Mirth danced in her round eyes. She didn’t mention anything about Calix addressing an elder by his given name.
"Well, you should take your bath," Leslie had decided on her next step, "There’s somewhere I wanna go."
"Don’t sleep in the yard ah," Calix brought up Leslie’s sleeping arrangement last night, "Come back here once you’re done."
"Hehe, no worries ah," Leslie waved her hand. She hurriedly rushed to the door, "See you!"
Whoosh!
"..."
Calix looked at Leslie vanishing through the door. Shaking his head, once again he reminded himself to get used to her actions.
While Calix slowly undressed to get into the bathtub, Leslie was on her way to where the accident happened. She crossed paths with several helpers until no one could be seen anymore along the way.
"This is it."
Leslie paused once she reached her destination. At the sight of the long staircase, her gaze sharpened.
