Chapter 56: Did You Mistake Your Way to the Brothel?

"Calix! Don’t open the door!"

Leslie hurriedly returned to the bedroom. Her words and abrupt shouting perplexed Calix. The door was still being knocked from the outside by Gladys.

"Why? Who’s there? Is it Geoffrey?"

Calix rose from the bed. He unconsciously lowered his tone, realizing something was amiss by how Leslie was acting.

"Didn’t you say you always bring your body cam around? If you wanna open the door, wear it first."

Leslie’s further words added more to Calix’s confusion. He stared at her strangely yet he did as he was told.

"Yeah... let me wear it."

Calix grabbed the small body camera he kept inside his wallet. It took the shape of a shirt button. Despite its micro size, the body camera could capture videos and audio.

"So, care to tell me who’s outside?" Calix glanced at Leslie while pinning the camera to his pajamas, "I don’t think it’s a ghost. Did one tail come looking for you?"

"Well..." Leslie hesitated. She scratched one side of her neck, thinking back to who she saw outside, "Actually, it’s Gladys outside. You know... my cousin?"

Calix was stunned. His brows shot up.

"What? What’s she doing here?" asked Calix in disbelief.

Leslie laughed dryly. She decided to be forward with her assumptions instead of hiding anything, "She’s in a sexy nightdress. Don’t you think she’s here to seduce you? Huh, CEO Xu?"

"...so troublesome. Just like her father."

Leslie covered her laughing mouth when Calix showed a distasteful look on his face. Without a doubt, he was annoyed with Gladys’ behavior.

Knock! Knock!

Leslie and Calix looked in the direction of the door. They didn’t know how many times Gladys had knocked. This time, she spoke instead of being quiet.

"Brother Calix, are you inside? I’m here to deliver something to you."

Gladys purposely sweetened her voice, trying to sound alluring. But, Calix’s frown only grew deeper, much to Leslie’s amusement.

"Yeah, right. She’s here to deliver herself to me," Calix huffed, quickly racking his brain to come up with a counterattack.

"You’ll open the door, not ignoring her?" asked Leslie, wiggling her brows. She anticipated an enjoyable show happening as soon as Calix stepped outside.

"Don’t you think it’s worth opening the door?" Calix grinned, mischief flickering in his eyes, "I can get good blackmail material if she or her father tries to trouble me in the future. What do you say, Mrs. Xu?"

Leslie pretended to shudder. She rubbed both sides of her arms, "Wow~ I don’t ever wanna make you my enemy, CEO Xu."

"I’m pleased to hear that," replied Calix smugly, shrugging.

After making sure the body cam began recording, Calix headed to the door. His large strides brought him there within a few steps.

Leslie followed Calix from behind. She didn’t want to miss witnessing Glayds embarrassing herself. It would certainly be a good show.

Creak...

Calix didn’t open the door wide, just enough to show himself at the doorframe. Leslie stepped out through the wall, standing between him and Gladys.

Disgust replaced the mischief in Calix’s eyes once he saw how Gladys was dressed.

How could this woman be so shameless?

She came looking for her cousin’s husband while wearing a revealing nightgown!

Even without Leslie’s warning, Calix could tell what was on Glayds’ mind. He had met enough women trying to climb his bed in the past.

"Second Young Miss Xu, what are you doing here?" asked Calix sternly, paying no attention to how Gladys’ eyes lit up once she saw him, "It’s almost midnight."

"Brother Calix, don’t be so formal with me. Aren’t you my sister’s husband? You can call me Galyds."

Gladys smiled shyly, not affected by Calix’s grim tone. Pink hues tinted her cheeks. She fiddled with her silk night robe, exposing the plunging neckline of her night dress.

Even though Calix had rejected Old Madam Li and Geoffrey’s attempt to pair him with Gladys earlier, the latter didn’t let those failures make her give up.

Her delusional mind told her that Calix did that to preserve his dignity in front of the elders. But, it would be different once they met in secret.

"Hah! So, you’re aware that I’m your sister’s husband? Then why do you come looking for me at midnight, dressed like this? Did you mistake your way to the brothel?"

Calix scoffed out loud. Without mincing his words, he shattered Gladys’ fool’s paradise.

"B-brother Calix! No, I don’t... I don’t act impurely. How could you think of me like that?"

Gladys was shocked by Calix’s harsh ridicule. He didn’t disguise his words, unlike this evening.

Tears began to pool in Gladys’ eyes. She assumed the pose of a sad beauty, trying to grab Calix’s sympathy like how she had always done in front of other men.

’It’s a waste I don’t have popcorn ah.’

Leslie shook her head in disbelief. This scene was worth having some caramel popcorn with her. She could finish a bowl without any problem.

Gladys’ facade did nothing to rouse Calix’s pity. Instead, it caused his anger and annoyance to spiral.

"Second Young Miss Xu, I know what your intention is. You’re mad that I chose Charlene as my wife instead of you, isn’t it? I can clearly see it from your grandmother and parents."

Leslie covered her mouth, holding back from laughing. It seemed like Calix refused giving Gladys any chance to retort. He directly tore into her disguise.

"T-that! That... Brother Calix, I don’t..."

Gladys stuttered. Her cheeks went beet red out of embarrassment, chasing her bashfulness away.

"Go before I call your father. I don’t mind making a scene right now."

Calix’s harsh tone reduced Gladys to tears. She really turned into a crying mess instead of only pretending to be pitiful.

"You... how could you pick her? If you want to marry, I’m the better choice! Why didn’t you choose me?"

Amused, Leslie snickered. She found it funny how Gladys quickly exposed her true intention just because Calix shattered her facade. She didn’t try to hide it any longer.

Sigh... Gladys was really a useless and shameless cannon fodder.

Calix sneered. Through the corner of his eyes, he could tell Leslie was enjoying this show.

This was good. Calix was worried that Leslie would feel offended by this delusional woman’s remarks.

"Why are you the better choice?" Calix shook his head as if he was in disbelief, "Second Young Miss Xu, do you think all men in this world will bow to your stinky feet?"

Gladys gritted her teeth. More tears ran down her cheeks, pooling under her chin.

"You don’t know how slutty Charlene is! She slept with old men since high school! Hah! When they showed her even the tiniest attention, she sold her body to them!"

Leslie froze while Calix’s eyes glowered ferociously, enraged with Gladys’ accusation.

"If that’s true, why didn’t she rely on those men? At least they cared for her, unlike your family!"

"B-brother Calix! How could you not care?" shouted Gladys, "You don’t know that she’s preg..."

"Shut up!"

BAM!

Gladys’ nose almost broke when Calix abruptly slammed the door shut, cutting the rest of her words off.

Bewildered, Leslie stared at Gladys. Her eyes reddened as intense sorrow suddenly overwhelmed her heart.
