Chapter 540: The Family of Harmony

In the following days, life was a little hectic for Calix, Leslie and Calliope.

CEO Xu was preoccupied with settling the urgent matters involving the company. He wished to free the entire Friday, the day before Andrian and Harper’s anniversary banquet.

Leslie was busy preparing herself for her first public appearance in high society during the banquet. Old Madam Xu, Andrian and Harper told her not to worry about etiquette much but, she still wanted to present her best self.

As for Calliope...

The little dumpling was busy eating and playing as usual. She chirped happily once she learned that a few of her kindergarten friends were invited to the banquet alongside their parents.

Their customized dresses were perfectly crafted by Theresa Tan, now hanging inside their respective closets. Both Leslie and Calliope couldn’t wait to wear the beautiful dresses.

As the days went by, Calix and Leslie learned more about Nicholas and Daniel’s fate. The two men’s trials began this week with little possibility of being bailed out.

"Xander said they do not fare well in the detention center," Calix mentioned the issue to Leslie one night, "I think he did, or still does something to them."

Leslie was momentarily blank before the realization dawned on her. It seemed like Xander was still toying with Nicholas and Daniel despite the fact that the two men were already confined in the detention center.

Xander’s wrath toward Nicholas and Daniel was not only because of Calix but, Belinda. His younger cousin was utterly devastated after finding out she was simply a pawn in Nicholas’ game.

Belinda returned from her vacation to the news of Nicholas’ detainment. Xander revealed the important details to her.

Leslie heard that Belinda didn’t take the news well in the beginning. The lady didn’t eat and sleep much for a few days, wallowing in her regrets and sadness.

Haa... Nicholas really deserved the retaliation from Xander.

Who told him to mess with a maiden’s heart?

Thinking how cruel the male lead could be toward his enemies, Leslie shuddered upon imagining the possible scenarios. She decided not to ask Calix for details, afraid she couldn’t sleep well that night.

Either way, Nicholas and Daniel’s fates were left to the justice system now.

Eventually, Saturday arrived.

The anniversary was held at one of the luxury hotels in Silvercrest City, the Queen’s Crown Hotel. The celebration was scheduled for seven in the evening.

Everyone in the main Xu family booked the suites for their convenience, including spending the night there after the banquet ended. Some of the relatives also did the same, also from Harper’s maternal family side.

At six, the guests began arriving one by one, all clad in luxurious gowns and suits. They flocked to the banquet hall on the first floor, right next to a beautiful garden.

"Mr. and Mrs. Ding, you’re here."

"...almost late. The traffic can be quite bad."

"How have you been? How’s your trip to Norway?"

"Have you heard? The pianist will come to our city this winter."

The guests’ chatter filled the corridor outside the hall. The grandiose banquet hall was perfectly set up by the hotel staff, revealing its timeless elegance.

Hanging from the high arch ceiling, the crystal chandeliers cascaded their lights like waterfalls, illuminating the entire hall.

Calix and Vernon, wearing their tailored suits, stood side by side near the entrance. They took the roles of the hosts, welcoming the guests with practiced charm.

The conversations flowed effortlessly because the brothers, especially Calix, were already familiar with the guests. Most of them were their parents’ old friends and acquaintances.

However, the primary topic of curiosity revolved around Calix’s mysterious wife and daughter. Once again, Mrs. Feng brought it up when she greeted the young man[01].

"You can’t run away now, Calix. I won’t go home until I meet your wife and daughter."

Calix chuckled upon facing the playfully threatening Mrs. Feng. The older woman shot him a look, a smile hanging on her red-painted lips.

"Don’t worry, Mrs. Feng for I am excited to finally introduce my wife and our lovely daughter too. I can boast about them freely after tonight."

Calix’s remarks earned laughter from Mrs. Feng and the nearby guests. Vernon arched his brows, sensing the pride in his younger brother’s voice.

Soon, more guests filled in the grand hall. Xander, Davin and Ryken also appeared, gracing the banquet with their presence.

Calix instructed the three men to look over Irene, the only guest from the Li family. The teenager refused when the former suggested she made her entrance with Leslie later.

Thus, the sweet Irene was guarded by the three men. Aside from the aloof Xander, Davin and Ryken exchanged small talks with the teenager.

The guests’ chatters blended with the soft music played by a quartet on the right side of the hall. Aside from celebrating the long and happy marriage of Andrian and Harper, the guests also took this time to network with each other.

Right before seven, Calix and Vernon disappeared. They would make their entrance alongside Andrian, Harper and everyone else. Their parents wanted to do such a show.

The emcee stood on the podium, his voice rang through the elegantly adorned banquet hall.

"Ladies and gentlemen, hereby I announce that the esteemed Chairman Andrian Xu and his lovely wife, Mrs. Harper Xu, along with their wonderful family, will be joining us shortly."

The hall hushed, a ripple of excitement coursed through the crowd. The guests ceased their conversation, and some of them rushed to their banquet tables.

The emcee spoke again, "Now, please direct your attention to the entrance as we prepare to welcome them."

The grand doors opened gracefully by the attendants, revealing the Xu family in all their glory.

Andrian and Harper led the procession, radiating elegance and pride as they waved warmly at their guests.

Evelyn followed right behind her parents, carefully escorting Old Madam Xu, both ladies of the different generations seemed to enjoy the walk.

Next, Vernon and Lucille stepped inside with the adorable Amelia perched on her father’s right arm. The whole family was dressed in matching navy blue and purple shades.

And, the last ones were...

"They’re here!"

"That’s the Li family’s first granddaughter? I’ve never thought she’s this gorgeous."

"Look at the little one! Isn’t she so adorable?"

Hushed whispers echoed from some of the guests, admiring the family of three who was dressed in pink walking down the aisle, following Andrian and Harper.

Leslie, linking arm with Calix, drew particular attention. Dressed in an ethereal gown crafted by Theresa, she carried herself with poise and grace. Her luscious locks were put on a chignon.

As for Calliope, she sat comfortably on Calix’s arm, her round eyes expressing her wonder instead of fright from being watched by the unfamiliar guests.

Sitting in her seat, Mrs. Feng smiled warmly, "One thing is for sure, the lady matches well with the young CEO Xu. Their daughter, the angel looks so adorable."

The ones at the same table as Mrs. Feng nodded, agreeing with the older lady.

The family of three was the perfect painting of a family of harmony.
