Win My Husband Over to Find My Child
Chapter 524: When the End Would Be?

Chapter 524: When the End Would Be?

Even though Leslie was frustrated, she told herself not to think much about the romance problems between the male lead and the female lead.

Xander seemed to change for the better. Now, it was up to Violet whether to accept him back or not.

If Leslie could play the devil on Violet’s left shoulder, she would surely encourage the female lead not to forgive Xander easily.

The male lead should embark on a long groveling path before he was forgiven.

Tsk.

Shaking her head, Leslie returned her focus to Calix. She hadn’t done yet with the files sent by Xander. Her husband opened another file, showing a list of names, including data and graphs she didn’t understand.

"What is this?" Leslie leaned closer toward the laptop, her brows furrowing.

"You asked how the reward won’t sustain their start-up, right?" Calix glanced at Leslie, a smile hanging on his lips, "He extorted money from smaller establishments."

Under Leslie’s surprised gaze, Calix explained the details in the file. He also mentioned how Nicholas played a harmless facade while preying on his start-up rivals.

With the assistance of his mob friends, Nicholas managed to embezzle from the less successful companies. The last attempt happened just before he relocated to this country.

"His mob friends help to keep the victims in check. No one dared to come forward because their justice system itself is corrupted."

Leslie let out a sigh, unable to imagine how miserable the victims might feel. They most likely bet their entire savings to build their start-ups, only to be villainized by Nicholas.

That might be the setup for Nicholas rising as the last villain but, what he did still ruin people’s livelihood. He needed to be brought to justice and punished accordingly.

"Honey, he has been cozying up to your staff, right?" asked Leslie, concern lacing her voice. She remembered everything Calix told her previously.

Nodding, Calix smiled at Leslie, hoping to reassure her.

"He does, but there’s no big movements yet. I believe he’s being cautious because he’s still new here."

Nicholas had yet to approach Calix’s direct subordinates. The former was trying to befriend the ones under the said subordinates for now, most likely trying to lure them to his side.

Blinking, Leslie lowered her voice, "Then... Has he tried to bribe them?"

The smile on Calix’s lips widened. Chuckles slipped out of his mouth as he focused on Leslie’s face. Lifting his hand, he gently poked her cheek.

"Are you thinking of all the scenarios in a drama, en?" Calix arched his brows, teasing Leslie.

"That’s still a possibility ah," Leslie tilted her head backward, shooting Calix a glare, "So, what’s the answer?"

Nicholas was quite wise in approaching the less important people to assess the situation. He might shoot himself on foot if he straightaway went after the bigger fish.

"He and his friend invited them out for meals a few times. They’re still in the process of building trust."

Calix knew every person contacted by Nicholas. Edward and the security team monitored the subordinates’ movements as well.

"A few of them are quite problematic," Calix quickly added, recalling their identities and positions in the company, "I won’t deny some might backstab us but, there’s nothing urgent so far."

Calix had experienced facing traitors within the company before. He usually put them under close watch before finding the chance to oust them.

Backstabbers didn’t have any place in his company.

Leslie let Calix’s words sink into her mind. She didn’t understand much about how a conglomerate worked but, she believed her husband could handle the incoming trouble well.

"I want to look more," said Leslie, referring to the other files, "Show them, please."

"Sure."

As Calix showed more evidence to Leslie, including explaining them to her, she believed Nicholas would have nowhere to run. His end was only the prison.

His friends in the mob most likely would stop associating themselves with him.

The clock almost pointed to midnight by the time Calix and Leslie finished looking at all the evidence. She slowly rose to her feet, her body was quite numb from sitting for so long.

"When will the police catch him? Is it within this week? Or, the next?" asked Leslie as she stretched her legs. Her curious gaze fell on Calix, hoping for a positive answer.

The sooner, the better. But, only Calix knew when the right time was. Leslie understood the reason for being careful.

"I’ll talk to Xander about it," Calix closed the laptop, placing it on the coffee table opposite the couch, "It won’t be long. At the very least, by next week."

The anniversary banquet for Andrian and Harper was scheduled for September 30th, slightly over two weeks from today.

Theresa, the designer of Lavender Thread had sent her design drafts to Leslie two days ago. She and Calliope picked the ones they liked the most and now waiting for the fitting session.

As the banquet was closely approaching, Calix wanted to end this as soon as possible. He knew he most likely would be involved in the aftermath of Nicholas’ capture.

Leslie let out a sigh. Smiling faintly at Calix, she could only wish for his safety.

"No matter what, please be safe. We... we still have so many things we wanna experience together, honey."

The current version of Nicholas was not as dangerous as the version in the original storyline. Still, Leslie couldn’t help but worry as the day of the final face-off was near.

Sensing the slight tremble in Leslie’s voice, Calix hurriedly stood up and brought her into his arms. He ran his hand through her hair, letting the locks fall through his fingers.

"I’ll be safe, sweetheart. I will."

Calix dropped a kiss atop Leslie’s head, also wishing the same. He didn’t want to meet his demise so soon as how he unfortunately did before.

Leslie hummed softly as she pressed her forehead on Calix’s chest. Listening to his steady heartbeat brought a smile to her lips.

"It’s getting late. We should head to bed."

"En."

Holding Leslie close to him, Calix led her out of the home office. Their footsteps were faint in the quiet hallway. They only went to their room after checking on Calliope.

As Calix and Leslie drifted to sleep, the man’s phone received a message from Xander. One that would mark Nicholas’ fate.
