Chapter 525: Both Symbolized Death

Saturday, 6:40 PM.

The sunset had long fallen in Silvercrest City. A sleek dark gray luxury car zipped through the bustling city streets, its polished surface gleaming under the colorful neon lights.

The driver, Daniel Yan navigated the car expertly, weaving through the busy weekend traffic. Beside him, Nicholas Wu leaned back, his expression tense.

"Your girl isn’t here. Can you approach him without her?" asked Daniel, his voice lacing with mockery. He hit on the brake as the vehicles ahead slowed and eventually stopped at the red lights.

"I’ll try. It’s already hard to meet him with Belle’s away," replied Nicholas, sounding frustrated. He threw his gaze outside the window, briefly looking at the neighboring cars.

"We have to thank the Mo’s young master. I heard he rarely returned to the country. I doubt CEO Qin will host a party if not for him."

Nicholas replied nothing, his mind wandering to the party that would begin at Vilux soon.

The heir of the Qin family, Xander Qin planned to throw a party to celebrate his long-time friend, Ryken Mo. Most likely, Calix Xu and Davin Huo would be there.

Many people hoped to join because Xander rarely hosted a party, not including the one thrown by Vilux’s management itself. His presence alone was desirable by many, more so when all his friends were included.

One could tell the party would be the pool for people networking because most of the young elites would be there.

"Too bad we can’t go to the Xu’s banquet," Daniel clicked his tongue, tapping one finger on the steering wheel, "Just imagine. You go directly to the old madam and tell her you’re her husband’s exiled son."

Nicholas tightened his jaw, his eyes blazing with suppressed fury. Parting his lips, only venom lacing his voice.

"Don’t worry. I’ll surely send them the best gift."

Chuckles slipped out of Daniel’s mouth. Curling one side of his lips, he sneered, "Black roses and white chrysanthemums. I like the combo. Plus, the letter you’ll slip along the bouquet."

Nicholas and Daniel were aware of Andrian and Harper Xu’s anniversary banquet at the end of this month. They hoped to get invited but, the chance was almost close to none.

Still, Nicholas wanted to use the banquet to announce his return. The safest bet was sending a harmless bouquet to the hall where the banquet was held.

Thinking that the security team would screen all the gifts, Nicholas had no other choice. Still, the Xu family would be surprised by the eerie combination of the flowers.

Black roses and white chrysanthemums. Both symbolized death.

"Make sure they can’t trace the flowers back to you," Daniel glanced at Nicholas, seemingly concerned with his friend, "You know we don’t have enough power yet to take them down."

Nicholas said nothing. He knew Daniel didn’t agree with his plan. His friend wanted him to be patient for a little longer.

But...

Nicholas couldn’t wait. Seeing how happy Calix was with his little family stirred the fiery pit of his jealousy.

After calculating everything, Nicholas wanted to strike chaos during the banquet where the high society elites would gather.

As the car’s interior was enveloped in silence, they finally arrived at Vilux. People in dresses and suits flocked to the entrance, heading to the main hall where the party was held.

"Mr. Wu and Mr. Yan, it’s good to see you here!"

"Come in. I saw CEO Qin and his friends inside."

"You’re lucky! We don’t have such a party often."

Familiar faces greeted Nicholas and Daniel. After exchanging a few words, the two friends followed the others into the hall.

Gentle jazz music filled the air, performed by a skilled quartet in one corner of the hall. The low hum of the guests’ voices echoed, rising above the music.

Donning tailored suits and elegant dresses, the guests chatted with each other. The promising entrepreneurs, socialites and future industry leaders blended in the crowds.

Nicholas paused once he spotted Xander from the crowd. Daniel also halted in his tracks. They saw the CEO of Qin Group gathered with his friends as guests came talking to them.

There might be many people inside this hall but, most of their attention was on the group of four. Some guests formed smaller groups, loitering nearby as they waited for their chances to greet the four men.

Daniel whistled quietly, his brows arched as he stared at Xander, Calix, Davin and Ryken from afar. Leaning toward Nicholas, he whispered, "A pretentious bunch. Don’t you think so?"

Nicholas pursed his lips, inwardly agreeing with Daniel.

Both men loathed how some people were lucky enough to be born into wealthy families, being set for life from the very beginning.

While they... had to survive the harshness of the world to rise to the top. Fighting, swindling and backstabbing were their routine back then.

Not that they had really changed for the better. They were just getting smarter on how they dealt with their enemies.

"They’re too many people," Nicholas sighed, taking a step back, "Let’s wait for a bit."

"Okay."

Soon, Xander spoke through a mic, welcoming the guests to the party. The man didn’t talk much because he passed the baton to Ryken, who was known as a chatterbox.

"Did anything miss me?"

Ryken’s playful remark earned laughter from the crowd, especially the young ladies. Some of them were his admirers who liked his cheekiness.

Nicholas and Daniel wasted no time socializing with the guests. They saw many new faces, the ones they didn’t get to meet before.

Coming to this party was worth it. Even the reclusive among the elites attended because Xander Qin himself hosted the party.

One hour went by. The party was in full swing, filled with the soft jazz and the refined chatter of the crowds.

Nicholas and Daniel hadn’t gotten the chance to greet Xander. Fortunately, the chance presented itself once they saw the latter was alone with Calix Xu near the sleek bar.

"CEO Qin and CEO Xu, good evening."

Putting on a smile, Nicholas greeted Xander and Calix. He still carried the half-full glass of wine in his right hand. Daniel was by his side.

"Mr. Wu, Mr. Yan," Calix was the one who returned the greeting, his lips forming a casual smile, "It’s the first time I saw you both at the same time."

"Hello, CEO Xu," Daniel also wore the same smile on his face, "I must say, it’s hard to meet you. I feel lucky that you’re here tonight."

Laughing softly, Calix shrugged, "What can I do? I’m busy with my wife and daughter."

"He’s a family man so, he’s busy with them," Xander chimed in, his voice low. Staring at Nicholas, he asked, "I thought you came with Belle. She hasn’t returned?"

"She told me she’ll drop by Montreaux before she returns," Nicholas chuckled, telling Xander of his latest contact with Belinda, "Maybe she’ll..."

BANG!

Nicholas froze mid-sentence when a loud sound came from the grand door. His words hung in the air, replaced by the sharp echo of heavy footsteps rushing into the hall.

A squad of police stormed in, their uniforms crisp and expressions grim. Their sudden presence immediately silenced the lively room.
