Chapter 511: What the Male Lead Had to Say

Two days after Calix visited Vernon, Sunday.

"Sleep well, my darling."

"Don’t sneak out of your bed ah. You’re going to school tomorrow."

Leslie and Calix’s remarks lured laughter from Calliope’s mouth. She was already tucked into her pink strawberry and bunny comforter with Mimo and other toys by her side.

Grinning at her mama and papa, the little dumpling nodded, "Poppy will sleep well ah. Poppy wanna eat Papa’s strawberry pancakes tomorrow."

Calix and Leslie chuckled in sync, amused by Calliope’s ability to still think about food when it was already bedtime.

"Okay. Papa will make them with lots of strawberries," Calix shook his head in helplessness. He lightly pinched Calliope’s nose, "Sleep ah."

"Humph! Okay~"

Leslie and Calix kissed Calliope’s forehead and cheeks before leaving. The little one quickly shut her eyes, thinking of eating the pancakes and going to kindergarten tomorrow.

Yummy yum~

May pancakes come to her dream tonight.

"Shall we go now, sweetheart?"

"Hehe, okay."

After putting Calliope to bed, Calix and Leslie headed to the rooftop pool. They didn’t return to their bedroom to change out of their clothes.

For everyone’s convenience, Calix had Aunt Wendy store their swimwear, including Calliope’s floaties in a room at the rooftop pool.

The water shimmered under the soft glow of the surrounding lights, the moon was bright in the night sky. The quiet hum of the rooftop created an intimate ambiance for the lovebirds.

"You sure you won’t follow me to work tomorrow?"

Calix’s question earned laughter from Leslie. She smilingly looked at her husband who was already in the pool while she sat on the edge, soaking her legs.

Calix wrapped his arms around Leslie’s waist, his eyes locking onto hers. He grinned when she cupped his face, running her thumbs on his skin.

"No can do, honey. I’ll just bother you if I keep on going ah. Aren’t you busy with work?"

Leslie felt like pinching Calix’s cheeks for being sly. He wanted her to follow him to work again, like how she did last Friday.

"I’ll be busy as always," Calix paused, showing a sad puppy look at Leslie, "I’ll be more energetic ah if you’re there."

"Hahaha! Don’t be silly!"

Leslie ended up squeezing Calix’s cheeks as she previously thought, earning a pout from her husband.

"Are you gonna sulk if I don’t go?"

Leslie raised her brows, enjoying teasing Calix. The man responded by shooting her an aggrieved look, eliciting more laughter from her.

Aiya, her husband could be so silly and clingy ah.

Tapping Calix’s right cheek, Leslie asked, her voice sweet with honey, "Then, will you still sulk if I kiss you?"

Blinking, Calix coughed awkwardly. He squeezed Leslie’s waist, giving her a sly grin.

"I will stop... maybe?"

"Hahaha!"

Calix’s lips melted into a honeyed smile upon watching the way Leslie’s face beamed as she laughed. Her hearty giggles always sounded musical to him.

Calix and Leslie had decided on their schedule of sending and picking Calliope up from kindergarten.

Calix would send Calliope on his way to work in the morning while Leslie would pick the little one up once school was over. Even though they could solely rely on the bodyguards, they still wished to be present.

For now, that was the arrangement Calix and Leslie agreed upon. There might be changes in the future but, perhaps not so soon.

"Then, will you come with me this Wednesday? After we return from the hospital?"

Unwilling to give up, Calix asked again. He brought up their hospital visit this coming Wednesday. It would be Leslie’s next appointment with Dr. Mo.

Calix pushed back his work schedule that day, intending to accompany Leslie to the hospital as usual. The check-up was not as frequent as before anymore because of her recovery.

More chuckles slipped out of Leslie’s lips. She threw Calix a look, knowing that her husband wouldn’t easily give up.

"Okay~ I’ll follow you to work this Wednesday."

"Hehe~ Thank you, my love. Then, how about..."

Calix wanted to continue acting coy at Leslie but, the sudden ringing of his phone broke the romantic and intimate ambiance between them.

Ring! Ring!

"En? Who is it?" Leslie glanced at the recliner chair where Calix put his phone, "Is it Grandma? Or, Mom?"

Calix only brought his personal phone along, leaving the office one in their bedroom. Leslie could only think of his family members looking for him at this time of night.

"Maybe. Haa... Let me get it."

Sighing, Calix quickly climbed over the edge, splashing water on the floor. Water dripped from his hair down to his feet as he strode to the recliner chair.

"It’s Xander."

That name slipped out of Calix’s mouth once his eyes saw the Caller ID displayed on the screen. Leslie raised her brows, her interest was piqued by the mention of the male lead’s name.

Was Xander calling Calix to relay good news?

Or, the opposite?

Unable to contain her curiosity, Leslie pulled her legs out of the pool before standing up, her movements slow and cautious. She didn’t forget to wear the rubber slippers prepared for her.

Sliding on the screen, Calix accepted the call. He walked toward Leslie while greeting Xander at the end of the line, "Yes, Xander?"

Leslie let Calix wrap one arm around her waist, knowing he was afraid she might slip. She followed him to the recliner chair, still curious about the phone call.

"Calix, you’re really something."

Leslie caught the words spoken by Xander. She noticed he sounded as if he was in disbelief, mixed with annoyance.

"What? What is it? Oh, did you find something about that Nicholas?"

Calix gently pushed Leslie to sit on the recliner before lowering himself next to him. Xander’s dry laughter echoed from the phone.

"Yes. Not just something but, a lot."

Xander’s remark earned a smirk from Calix. Before responding to the former, he switched on the loudspeaker mode, letting his friend’s voice audible to both him and Leslie.

"Go on. What have you discovered? Oh, you’re fast ah. I thought you wouldn’t call me until later."

Leslie almost chuckled, amused by the mischievous smirk on Calix’s face. He glanced at her, shooting her a teasing look.
