Chapter 503: First Day in the Kindergarten
As the days went by, Calix hadn’t heard anything yet from Xander about Nicholas. He didn’t let himself be stressed about it. He was already busy balancing time and attention between his family and work.
Eventually, the beginning of September arrived, marking the first day of Calliope going to kindergarten.
Calix and Leslie sent Calliope to kindergarten, followed by a few bodyguards. He was in his usual suit, while his lady wore a two-piece dress suit. Both of them donned sunglasses.
They were allowed to drive inside the compound today. The executive van slowed down before pulling up under a tree.
"Don’t you think people will just recognize you?" asked Leslie, her brows arching as she stepped out from the van with one hand held by Calix.
"Oh? Why do you say so?" Calix asked back but, the smirk on his lips expressed that he knew what Leslie meant.
Rolling her eyes, Leslie deliberately sighed, "Because you’re oh so famous, CEO Xu."
"Hahaha! It’s great that you know it, my lovely wife."
Leslie shot Calix an annoyed look. The man’s laughter turned louder as he reached for her nose, pinching it. Right on time, a certain dumpling’s voice echoed, sounding aggrieved.
"Papa! Help Poppy!"
Still strapped to the child’s car seat, Calliope eagerly demanded her freedom. She swung her short legs, her lips pouty as she stared at Calix.
"Haha, okay, okay. Don’t be mad ah."
Calix hurriedly rescued Calliope from the restrain of the buckle. The little dumpling took the backpack from another seat and wore it herself. Her twin pigtails bounced as she moved.
"Poppy is ready!"
Calix and Leslie exchanged a smile, happy to see the pure excitement on Calliope’s face.
"Let’s go. We have to meet Madam Lin first," said Calix while offering his hand.
Calliope reached for her papa’s hand before also doing the same to her mama. Walking hand-in-hand with her parents, the little dumpling happily sang.
"Going to school~ Poppy going to school today~"
Calliope adorned the kindergarten uniform, complete with an adorable pink backpack and a pair of black leather shoes. After singing, she chatted nonstop about meeting new friends.
The bodyguards waited outside as the family of three went to meet Madam Lin. They crossed paths with the principal in the lobby. The latter was talking to a few staff.
"Good morning, Mr. Xu, Mrs. Xu," Madam Lin politely greeted the couple before smiling at Calliope, "Are you ready for your first day of school, Calliope?"
"Yes!"
The little dumpling answered quickly, not wasting any time. Joy and anticipation were evident on her beaming face.
Madam Lin let out soft chuckles. Looking up from Calliope, she smiled at Calix and Leslie, "Please come with me, Mr. Xu and Mrs. Xu."
The family of three followed Madam Lin to her office. They spent quite some time there before the principal finally led them to Calliope’s classroom.
"Calliope will be here, the Sunflower Class," Madam Lin gestured at one of the classrooms down the hallway, "The other two are Lavender and Hydrangea."
Soon, they arrived at the Sunflower classroom. Bright, yellow sunflowers were painted on the door, followed by other colorful doodles.
A young female teacher came out of the classroom when she saw Madam Lin and the couple. She knew her class would receive a new student today.
"This is the teacher for Sunflower Class," Madam Lin introduced the teacher to Calix and Leslie, as well as Calliope, "Her name is Amanda Liu. She’s one of our best teachers here."
"Hello, Mr. Xu and Mrs. Xu," Teacher Liu greeted the Xu spouses, already learning their surnames, "I’m Amanda Liu, the teacher for Sunflower Class. Your daughter, Calliope will be under my care."
Calix and Leslie returned the greeting. The former had already checked the background of all staff in this kindergarten for safety purposes.
So far, everything fit Calix’s satisfaction. Leslie also thought the same.
"It’s time to go inside," Calix crouched down, fixing a stray strand of Calliope’s hair, "Papa and Mama will come to get you once school’s over, en?"
Calliope nodded repeatedly, "Okay! Poppy will behave and make lots of friends! Mama and Papa don’t miss Poppy too much ah."
Calix and Leslie chuckled, amused by their daughter’s fiery determination. After hugging and kissing the little one, they let Teacher Liu bring Calliope inside the classroom.
The husband and wife stood watching through the window. They saw Teacher Liu introducing Calliope to the other children before the little dumpling greeting her classmates.
"I can’t believe I sent our Poppy to kindergarten today," Calix muttered, his eyes glistening under the sunglasses, "Why must she grow up so fast ah?"
Leslie laughed softly as she slipped her arm around Calix’s. She teasingly asked, "Honey, are you seriously crying right now?"
"I can’t help it," Calix continued sniffling. He rubbed his eyes, "That’s our daughter in there."
"Hehe~ I’ll tell Grandma later that you cried," Leslie poked Calix’s arm, her smile mischievous, "You can join your brother’s club ah. I heard Brother Vernon also cried when he first sent Mia to kindergarten."
"Urgh... I can’t believe I become like him, sweetheart."
Leslie covered her mouth, afraid of disturbing the area with her laughter. Squeezing Calix’s hand, she said, "Don’t worry. Our Poppy’s going to do amazing. Come, you’re late for work now."
"Haa..."
Madam Lin quietly watched the husband and wife’s interaction. She had witnessed such scenes before, especially from parents who sent their children here for the first time.
Calix and Leslie looked at Calliope through the windows one last time before they slowly walked away. They didn’t forget to thank Madam Lin for her assistance.
"Our daughter didn’t look sad at all," Calix muttered as he and Leslie headed to the van, "Her poor dad is the one who feels sad."
"Hehe~ Our Poppy is always strong," Leslie patted Calix’s arm gently, her voice soft as she added, "She was like that before too. Still, I’m glad you got to experience it yourself this time."
Smiling faintly, Calix nodded, "Yes. I’m so thankful for that, my love."
Turning to look at Leslie, the smile on Calix’s lips deepened. Relief and gratitude flooded in his heart as he reminded himself of the fact.
Unlike before, Calliope had both of her parents around on the first day she attended kindergarten.
