Chapter 496: The One with Guts as Massive as a Mountain
"Mmm...."
Leslie bit her lower lip, releasing a soft whimper. Calix’s arms around her figure only tightened further. He returned to sucking the spot on the nape of her neck.
Licking the spot with the tip of his tongue, Calix teased Leslie a moment longer. A smirk was drawn on his lips as he moved to her right earlobe, gently biting the soft flesh.
"May I see you only with the necklace on, my love?"
The usual mellowness in Calix’s voice faded, replaced by huskiness. Leslie caught the evident passion in it, the same one that often made her melt in his embrace.
Her eyelashes fluttered, Leslie quietly turned around, locking her eyes with Calix’s. Intense lust swirled in his orbs, waiting to be unleashed upon her approval.
Leslie raised one hand, grazing her fingertips on Calix’s face. Tilting her chin up, she brushed her lips on his. Her hand moved downward, tugging at his necktie.
"You may, honey."
All the thoughts about what Calix supposedly told her vanished from Leslie’s head as he lowered her to the bed.
Soon, the only article he could see on her was the sapphire necklace, catching the light with its subtle brilliance.
The clock continued ticking, now striking half an hour before midnight. Quite a few hours had passed from the time Calix returned home.
The bedside lamp and under-bed lights cast a soft, amber glow to the dimly lit bedroom.
The husband and wife were still awake, having just emerged from the washroom in fresh nightwear after their fulfilling, passionate entanglement.
Leslie lay on the bed, donning a satin nightgown. The delicate, thin straps of the gown rested lightly on her shoulders. The sapphire necklace gleamed softly against her supple skin.
Calix sat beside Leslie, his strong hands massaging her shoulders with practiced care. His touch was always firm yet gentle, making sure his beloved would feel the relaxing sensation.
A pleased smile was drawn on Calix’s lips as his eyes laid on Leslie’s skin. The gown’s collar was wide on both the front and back sides, revealing the scattered love bites he left on her.
"That’s enough, honey," Leslie murmured, her voice laced with contentment, "Come lie with me. Thank you~"
Calix let out a throaty chuckle, his voice resonating softly in the quiet room, "Do you still feel strained anywhere?"
"It’s nothing much," Leslie tugged at Calix’s arm, urging him to lie next to her, "You haven’t told me stories about the auction ah."
"Hehe, I forgot. Okay, my love."
Dipping his head in, Calix pressed a kiss on Leslie’s bare shoulder. The sweet scent of the shower cream he lathered on her earlier still lingered on her skin.
"Here."
Calix leaned his back on the propped-up pillows against the bed headboard, wrapping one arm behind Leslie’s back. He smiled softly when she laid her head on his chest.
Taking one of Leslie’s hands, Calix interlocked their fingers. She tilted her head up, colliding her eyes on his.
"What’s the funny thing ah?" Leslie arched her brows, "Hurry, tell me."
Was it about Nicholas Wu and his partner?
Seeing that Calix’s mood was light upon his return earlier, Leslie could tell that Nicholas didn’t stir any trouble. It was enough to set aside her worries for now.
Chuckles spilled out of Calix’s mouth as he saw the gossipy glint flickering in Leslie’s eyes. Shaking his head in helplessness, he began, "Xander apologized to me tonight."
"...what? That Xander?"
Leslie gasped in shock, unable to believe Calix. He nodded calmly once, showing that he wasn’t teasing her like always.
"Yes. I was shocked too," Calix tilted his head, recalling the moment when he sat in Xander’s car, listening to his tale, "I thought someone else occupied his body, you know? It scared me for a second ah."
"Hahaha! Did you think he changed like us?"
Leslie covered her mouth, trying to restrain her laughter but, failed to do so. Calix let go of her hand, moving to pinch her nose.
"Who knew? It’s shocking to see the usually stuck-up male lead apologizing."
Leslie nodded, agreeing with Calix. She never expected to hear the male lead Xander asking for forgiveness over his previous wrongdoings.
"Indeed, it’ll be so shocking. But, why did he suddenly apologize ah? Do you know what happened?"
Was it because of the female lead?
Leslie knew that Violet was distancing herself from Xander now. It was the first time the female lead took a firm stance, not wavering even under the arrogant male lead’s threats.
Even though Leslie wasn’t close to Violet, she couldn’t help but applaud the female lead’s decision. She deserved not only love but, also respect.
Currently, Xander was obsessively in love with Violet while disregarding her wishes. Even if they stayed together forever, such a relationship might breed resentment in the long run.
Seeing the curiosity in Leslie’s gaze propelled chuckles from Calix’s mouth, "The thing is... He seems to change not because of someone’s advice but, a punch."
"...what?"
Surprise overtook Leslie’s curiosity once she heard Calix. Frowning, she stared at him dubiously, "A punch? Did someone punch him? Who?"
Who had the guts as massive as a mountain to strike a punch to the male lead?
Leslie believed Calix might do it if he was annoyed enough but, it seemed like that person wasn’t him.
"Hehe, easy, my love," Calix stroked Leslie’s back, entangling his fingers with her hair at the same time, "Let me tell you more."
Under Leslie’s baffled gaze, Calix resumed his story. He described everything to her, not missing any information.
In the end, Leslie’s hearty laughter chased the quietness of the bedroom away. Her reaction led Calix to cackle as well. The merry sound bounced off the walls, further lightening the ambiance.
"Wow! Ryken’s so courageous! He just punched Xander like that?"
"Hahaha! He did! He told me the same when I called him on my way home."
Leslie shook her head in disbelief. She rubbed her teary eyes because of all the laughing she did.
Despite how funny the situation was, the outcome was a good one.
Once the laughter faded, Calix resumed, his eyes soft on Leslie’s face, "Xander wants to meet you too to apologize but, I promise him nothing. It’s up to you, my love. Do you want to meet him?"
Calix had made it clear to Xander that he wasn’t allowed to extort forgiveness from Leslie.
If Xander did such a thing, Calix wouldn’t hesitate to cut him off for the rest of his life. He didn’t need a friend who kept being disrespectful to his wife.
Tilting her head, Leslie nodded with a smile, "I’ll meet him. I’m curious what will he tell me."
Calix was relieved to see the light on Leslie’s face. Instead of being upset with the situation, she found it funny and interesting.
"Then, I’ll arrange it. Maybe after we bring Poppy to the kindergarten."
"Oh, yeah, we should do that."
Leslie quickly agreed with Calix, recalling their intention to show the kindergarten around to Calliope. The little dumpling would start her schooling soon once September began[01].
Calix wanted to bring Calliope out to get her school supplies this weekend. The little one had been eagerly waiting for it.
"Let’s sleep, my love. It’s getting late."
"Okay~"
Throwing the thought about Xander far to the back of her mind, Leslie snuggled with Calix on the bed, sharing the same blanket. She chuckled softly when he kissed her head.
