Chapter 495: The Timeless Elegance for His Beloved

"Hahaha! Haha! Hahaha!"

Edward smiled in helplessness as he listened to Calix’s continuous laughter. He glanced at the rearview mirror, seeing his boss throw his head back, cackling out loud in the backseat.

Whoa... He really seemed to enjoy laughing at another’s misfortune.

The sedan sped down the road, moving further and further away from the auction venue. The passing lampposts bounced their lights on the sleek metal, sending sparkles in their wake.

Edward effortlessly maneuvered the car through the highway. The destination was Graceville Manor, to send Calix there before returning to his own apartment—to his beloved Chow Chow dog.

"You might die laughing before you get home, Boss Xu," Edward tossed those words to Calix, a smirk lacing his lips, "You still need to give the jewelry to Mrs. Leslie and Little Miss Poppy yourself."

"Don’t curse your own boss ah. Haha... My stomach hurts... Damn that Xander. I didn’t expect him to tell such a story."

Calix replied, almost breathless from all the cackling. He patted his tummy, still struggling to hold back laughing. His jaw also ached.

Every word spoken by Xander in his car earlier was still clear in Calix’s mind. Aside from thinking how hilarious it was, he felt it was such a pity he couldn’t witness the original scene first-hand.

Never once in his life did Calix imagine Xander apologizing to him. Also, he never foresaw the same man getting punched in the face by Ryken.

It seemed like that best friend of theirs assumed using his fist was better than talking through Xander, the epitome of arrogance.

Edward returned his gaze to the road ahead, "You don’t feel sorry for Boss Qin, aren’t you? To be honest, he deserved a punch or two. Oh, keep it off the records. Don’t tattle on me ah."

Calix laughed once more, amused with Edward’s remarks. Curling his lips into a sneer, he looked at the back of his chief assistant’s head.

"What if I told him that?" asked Calix, arching his brows in mirth.

"At least give me a thirty-minute notice. I’ll rush to the airport to make my escape," Edward replied quickly, feigning his fear.

Calix clicked his tongue, displeased at the idea of Edward running away. He doubted he would find another trusted and efficient close aide like this younger man.

No matter how annoying Edward could be, Calix would rather keep such a talent by his side.

’Oh, I should call Ryken.’

Pulling the phone out of his jacket pocket, Calix dialed Ryken’s number. The line was connected by three rings.

"Urgh... Why is it you? I thought it’s a lady who called me."

Ryken’s voice echoed at the end of the line, complaining at Calix. Not bothering with the former’s whining, he said, "Ryken, I heard something interesting. Did you..."

Soon, the sedan glided through the spacious driveway of Graceville Manor. The compound was generally quiet, especially the manor.

Leslie was still up, staying awake to wait for Calix. She texted him earlier, telling him that Calliope had already gone to bed.

Neither Mrs. Su nor Mrs. An, the private nurses, were there. They still took care of Leslie but, they were no longer required to stay the night like before.

Calix took the velvet boxes of jewelry before opening the car door. Putting one foot on the ground outside, he looked at Edward.

"Drive safely ah. Don’t dream of your magnificent boss here."

Edward made a face, "Boss Xu, I don’t want nightmares."

"Brat."

Humming to a melody, Calix made his way to the main entrance. He keyed in the password and scanned his fingerprints before he heard a silent click, indicating the door was opened.

"Honey~ Welcome home."

Leslie greeted Calix as soon as she saw the door being pushed open. Once she heard the engine from the lounge, she quickly headed to the entryway.

Happy to see Leslie, Calix grinned, "Oh! My love! I’m back."

Calix immediately changed from his leather shoes to the home slippers before rushing to Leslie. Her melodious laughter echoed in his ears once he brought her into his embrace.

"Hehe, did you have fun? Pulled any elaborate stunt when bidding?"

Calix broke into laughter once he heard Leslie’s teasing remark. Instead of immediately replying, he started smooching her face with tiny kisses, earning more chuckles from her.

"Xander did that stunt but, I have a funny story for you ah."

Calix said between laughter after letting go of Leslie’s face. Pulling her closer to him, he raised his brows, mischief dancing in his eyes.

"Oh~ What is it?"

"Hehe, let’s go upstairs first."

Calix and Leslie left the entryway, heading to their bedroom. They stopped by Calliope’s room first. The little dumpling slept soundly on her princess bed.

"Sweetheart, this is for you."

Calix smilingly handed one of the velvet boxes to Leslie once they sat on the bed. His grin widened at the sight of her face beaming with delight.

"Thank you, honey," Leslie tilted her chin, leaving a peck on Calix’s right cheek, "I’ll open it now."

Calix immediately nodded, his face looking as eager as a young boy’s. He urged Leslie to check the content of the box, "Yup! Hurry, see what I got you."

Anticipation laced on Leslie’s soft smiling lips. She opened the box gently, her eyes widening once the jewelry was reflected in her orbs.

A tear-drop sapphire pendant lay in the middle of the box, its deep blue hue resembled a serene ocean under moonlight. Tiny diamonds encased the gemstone, resembling sparkling stars.

The pendant hung from a delicate white gold chain. The refined design exuded timeless elegance, perfect to be worn even on usual days.

"Honey! This is gorgeous! Really, thank you so much."

Calix’s eyes softened, dripping with honey. Tilting his head, he suggested, his voice tingeing with warmth, "Should I help you put it on?"

"Absolutely~"

Leslie turned slightly, facing her back to Calix. Lifting her long hair, she pulled her locks to the front, exposing her neck to him.

Calix leaned closer. He carefully draped the chain around Leslie’s neck. His fingers grazed her skin, leaving a faint warmth as he clasped the necklace at the back.

He loved every part of his beloved, including her graceful neck. Seeing how smooth and unblemished it was raised thoughts in his mind.

"Done," uttered Calix, his voice a low murmur.

Leslie touched the pendant, feeling its cool touch, "Thank you~ It’s so perfect. I like... Calix?"

Leslie stopped mid-sentence when Calix embraced her from behind, his lips brushing against the nape of her neck. She inhaled sharply as the sensation sent a shiver to her entire body.

"Ho-honey..."

Leslie murmured, her voice trembling slightly. Her breath hitched when Calix let his lips linger longer on a spot, sensually and deliberately sucking at the sensitive spot of her neck.

"Mmm..."

Leslie shuddered when Calix slowly moved downward, leaving a trail of kisses on her skin. The nightgown’s collar was wide, making it easier for him to do so.

"Sometimes I think..."Calix’s breathless voice rang from behind, sending tingles all over Leslie, "I should knit you a top... and undress you myself..."

Her cheeks flushed red, Leslie could only whispered Calix’s name.

The night would be a long one for them.
