Win My Husband Over to Find My Child -
Chapter 497: To The Kindergarten
Chapter 497: To The Kindergarten
Calix informed Xander that he would give the latter the date some other time. He was still preoccupied with the pre-planned schedule with Leslie and Calliope.
Xander could only agree. He didn’t want to push Calix to back away from this arrangement.
On the coming Saturday, Calix and Leslie brought Calliope out. The little dumpling was so happy to go buy her new school supplies that she woke up earlier than usual.
For safety purposes, Calix brought Logan and a few other bodyguards along. Some of them dressed in casual outfits, mimicking civilians.
Calix would rather take various precautions than simply remind himself to be careful.
Now that Nicholas openly approached him, Calix needed to be even more vigilant than usual. His security team was still investigating Nicholas and Daniel’s past.
Including the time when Nicholas returned to the country six years ago, coinciding with the car accident in which the original Calix lost his life.
"Mama, can Poppy get a pink bag? Also pink pencils!"
"Papa, pink shoes, can? Poppy wants pink hair bands too ah."
"Can Poppy bring Mimo to school? Mimo will be lonely ah when Poppy at school."
A happy Calliope couldn’t stop shooting different questions within a short interval to Calix and Leslie, much to their amusement. They could tell how joyful their daughter was to enroll in kindergarten.
Despite enjoying her time with Leslie, Aunt Wendy and Uncle Raymond during the daytime, Calliope clearly needed friends around her age. She could develop more social skills by enrolling in kindergarten.
It was better than homeschooling her even though they lacked no means of finding the best teachers.
Turning to look at Calliope, Calix sighed in helplessness, "Poppy, you can have a pink bag, pink pencils and pink hair bands but, not pink shoes."
Calix’s words were met by a long ’whyyy’ from Calliope.
"Why can’t pink shoes?"
Puffing her chubby cheeks, the little dumpling was evidently unhappy with her papa’s words. She smacked the child’s car seat, the whimsical bracelet worn on her right wrist caught the sunlight.
"You need to wear the same shoes as your friends, in black."
Leslie laughingly explained when Calix proceeded to poke Calliope’s cheeks instead of telling her the reason.
"Oh...."
The energetic Calliope deflated like a balloon. Her antics earned laughter from Calix and Leslie. They couldn’t help but imagine how their daughter would settle in the new environment.
Calliope was generally an outgoing and fearless child. Calix and Leslie could only hope she wouldn’t suddenly turn into a little leader of the children in the kindergarten.
The upset little Calliope quickly regained her energy once they arrived at the mall.
Calix and Leslie brought her from one store to the next, introducing her to the wonders of the stationery shops. The man had so much fun spoiling the little one.
Witnessing Calix and Calliope’s interaction flooded Leslie’s heart with warmth. This was something she used to envision back then.
Thankfully, her beloved would get to experience what he missed before.
After shopping, Calix suggested getting an early lunch. Leslie and Calliope quickly agreed, especially the exhausted and hungry little dumpling.
Calix led Leslie and Calliope to an Italian restaurant. They dined in a private dining room instead of the common area.
Calliope ordered a pizza for herself, including some tiramisu. Her entire focus was on the food once they arrived.
Shopping was fun but, could make one tired and hungry ah.
Calliope had already gotten her new backpack, pencils, notebooks and other supplies, most of them in the color pink. Everything was already brought to the van by the bodyguards.
"Sweetheart, don’t you wanna get something?" Calix asked Leslie while enjoying their lunch, "How about some books? Or other things?"
Leslie paused from twirling the pasta on her plate. Smiling at Calix, she gently shook her head, "Maybe some other time. I still have plenty of books I haven’t read at home."
Leslie had been frequenting the home library. Calix had a wide array of novels, mostly in the crime and investigation genre. At the same time, he often bought her romance books.
Her to-be-read pile kept growing day by day, including the audiobooks on her list.
Arching his brows, Calix stated playfully, "You know there are so such things as too many books."
Laughter bubbled up from Leslie’s lips. She shook her head in helplessness, amused by Calix’s remark.
Well, he wasn’t wrong actually.
Nevertheless, Leslie remained firm in her stance, refusing to buy new books, even the next suggestion of getting new clothes. She told Calix that she would drag him out exclusively for shopping some other time.
"I should put my husband’s black card to good use, right?"
This time it was Calix’s turn to laugh. Not wanting to pressure Leslie, he nodded, agreeing with her plan.
"I don’t mind it, sweetheart. Maybe~" Calix purposely dragged his words, winking playfully at Leslie, "We can go to a lingerie store too. I’ll pick some up for you."
Eye wide in surprise and cheeks blushing, Leslie hissed, "Calix! Poppy’s here!"
"Hahaha!"
Curious, the little Calliope looked up from her pizza plate, crumbs and sauces smearing her mouth. Looking at her laughing papa and her blushing mama, she asked, "Papa, Mama, why?"
Did Papa make her Mama mad again?
Tsk, tsk.
"Oh~ Your mama doesn’t want Papa to buy her nice dress ah," Calix quickly sought Calliope’s support, pretending to be upset, "Papa is sad."
Calliope blinked. Her mind quickly changed from thinking Calix was at fault to the opposite.
"Mama, poor Papa," Calliope stared at Leslie, her own lips pouting, "Don’t make Papa sad ah. Papa just wanna buy a dress for Mama."
"..."
Pursing her lips, the blushing Leslie kicked Calix’s leg under the table. Her action only earned another round of laughter from him.
Once again Calliope stared at them with confusion in her eyes.
The family of three’s outing ended at two. They returned home immediately instead of dropping by to other places. They still needed to go out tomorrow.
Sunday was the day for Calliope to visit the kindergarten. The place was just a ten-minute ride from Graceville Manor.
Donning a white-tiered summer dress and a pair of black leather shoes, Calliope followed Calix and Leslie to the kindergarten. She brought along her new backpack, carrying Mimo inside.
The exclusive kindergarten, attended by children of the elites, radiated elegance and warmth. Its sprawling landscaped gardens, bright classrooms and whimsical playgrounds were equipped with the latest safety features.
Those were what Calix and Leslie required the most before deciding to enroll Calliope here.
"Welcome, Mr. Xu and Mrs. Xu. We’re honored to have you and your child here."
Calix and Leslie were greeted by Madam Lin, the principal of the kindergarten in the reception room. The poised middle-aged woman smiled warmly at the parents.
After returning the principal’s greeting, Calix didn’t beat around the bush, saying, "As I’ve stated before, our daughter’s identity has to be kept secret. It’s for her safety."
Nodding, Madam Lin reassured Calix and Leslie, "We have several children who require the same here, Mr. Xu and Mrs. Xu. We won’t fail your child."
Calix and Leslie exchanged a glance, slightly relieved by Madam Lin’s comforting words. Still, they wouldn’t let their guard down.
Not until they confronted Nicholas and took him down.
