Chapter 487: The One Who Pulled Charlene from the Abyss

The brand new week following meeting Ryken was fairly peaceful for Calix, Leslie and Calliope. As the hecticness of his schedule gradually eased up, he brought his wife and daughter out for night drives twice.’

At the same time, Calix and Leslie talked about Andrian and Harper’s anniversary banquet to Calliope. The former showed photos of the previous celebrations, revealing an amazed look from the little dumpling.

"Wowww! So much food! Poppy can eat that many ah?"

Unfortunately, all Calliope could see was the feasts served on the buffet table. Calix was so close to squeezing the little dumpling’s chubby cheeks but, only resorted to pinching her nose.

Despite everything, Calix and Leslie didn’t worry too much about Calliope.

Their daughter was generally a well-behaved child. They just needed to keep an eye on her if she showed signs of discomfort surrounded by the guests.

After all, their family of three, especially Leslie and Calliope would gain the most attention on that night instead of Andrian and Harper.

That was the story for another time.

On Thursday morning, Leslie was waiting for a special guest at Graceville Manor. After so long, including a few phone calls, she would finally meet Mrs. Wang face to face today.

Leslie made sure she dressed up well, matching her outfit with Calliope. She donned a cotton lilac dress, paired with a thin white shawl while the little one wore a lilac-pink smocked dress.

Calix begrudgingly went to work, not before he hugged and smooched Leslie and Calliope’s faces, earning laughter and playful slaps from the mother and daughter.

"Mama, Mama wait for who?"

Calliope, as the ever curious little dumpling, asked Leslie when she saw her mama kept looking out the windows. She accompanied Leslie sitting on the bench opposite the white-paneled glass near the main entrance.

Tearing her eyes away from the windows, Leslie smilingly rubbed Calliope’s little head. Softness ladened her voice as she responded to the little one.

"Someone important, Poppy. Someone kind. Greet our guest well, en?"

"Okay! Poppy will do that!"

Calliope nodded her head repeatedly, resembling a tiny chick pecking on grains. Chuckles slipped out of Leslie’s mouth, entertained by her daughter’s adorableness.

Mrs. Wang arrived at Silvercrest City yesterday evening, accompanied by her youngest son, Alfred who recently graduated from the university.

Because the time was already late, Leslie didn’t immediately meet Mrs. Wang and Alfred. The two guests were brought to the hotel where Edward made the necessary arrangements.

Leslie talked to Mrs. Wang briefly last night, exchanging some words before telling the middle-aged lady to have a good rest. She knew Mrs. Wang was tired from the long journey.

Uncle Raymond would pick up Mrs. Wang and Alfred at the hotel tomorrow morning around nine. As for Aunt Wendy, she was determined to prepare the best meals, including desserts for the guests.

"You looked happy, sweetheart. Haven’t you noticed? You grinned ear to ear when chatting with Mrs. Wang ah."

Calix pointed that out once Leslie put her phone down. She playfully smacked his arm, leading him to grab her closer and plant a sneaky kiss on her lips.

Day by day, the shamelessness of the man continued growing. Most likely, its height would soar beyond the tallest mountain’s peak.

"Oh! There they are!" exclaimed Leslie once she saw a black sedan emerging on the driveway leading to the porch, "Poppy, come with Mama."

"Okay~"

Rising to her feet, Leslie walked slowly to the main door, relying on her cane. Calliope followed her closely, even holding her hand to prevent her mama from falling.

The black sedan glided smoothly along the paved driveway. The sunlight was reflected on its polished exterior, casting shadows on the ground.

Leslie and Calliope stood under the porch, waiting for the car to pull over. The former’s smile deepened as she watched Uncle Raymond stepping out of the car, rushing to open the door on the backseat.

A middle-aged lady and a young man emerged from the vehicle. Unable to refrain herself, Leslie exclaimed happily, her voice carrying a hint of pleasantness.

"Aunt Sofia!"

Leslie’s face beamed once she saw the older lady. Her face was so familiar to her despite being carved on a few of Charlene’s vast memories.

"C-Charlene!"

Mrs. Wang rushed to Leslie, unable to hide her happiness lacing with sorrow. Her hurried footsteps rang in the quiet garden. Tears pricked in her eyes, waiting to roll down her cheeks.

"Charlene, are you well? Can you stand for long? How are you, Charlene?"

Mrs. Wang held both of Leslie’s arms, her blurry eyes scanning the young lady from head to toe. Even though the former knew Leslie’s recovery was well, she couldn’t help but worry.

"I’m well. I’m so happy to meet you, Aunt Sofia."

Leslie pulled Mrs. Wang in her embrace. She chuckled when the older lady returned the hug tightly. She also sensed how Mrs. Wang’s body trembled, most likely in the mix of joy, relief and sadness.

This was the woman who pulled Charlene away from jumping into the dark abyss. No matter how different the outcomes of the parallel universe were, Leslie believed this fact wouldn’t ever change.

"Aunt Sofia, let me introduce you to my daughter."

After some time, Leslie gently pulled away from Mrs. Wang. She saw Calliope’s curious look from the corner of her eyes. The little dumpling was clearly wondering who their guests were.

"...ah."

Mrs. Wang seemed to jolt in surprise. She momentarily forgot that Charlene had reunited with her missing daughter, the one who her former colleagues heartlessly abandoned at an orphanage.

Pulling her eyes away from Leslie’s face, Mrs. Wang looked at the adorable young girl standing next to the former. The little one wore a cute smocked dress in the same lilac shade as her mother’s.

Leslie’s lips melted into a smile, delightful to see the awe-filled expression on Mrs. Wang’s countenance.

"Aunt Sofia, this is my lovely daughter, Calliope. My darling, this is mom’s friend."

Calliope stepped forward, flashing her brightest grin at Mrs. Wang. Bowing at the middle-aged lady, she greeted, "Hello. My name is Calliope. My nickname is Poppy. I’m five years old."

Blinking, Mrs. Wang sensed more heat emanating from her teary eyes.

This child... this lovely and innocent child...

Fortunately, she was safe.
