Chapter 486: I Know How to Divert Your Attention from This

Calliope was the most exhilarated one after leaving Ryken’s apartment. The little dumpling received a small gift from the man. It was a wooden charm carved into a bird.

"Poppy, this is for you. It’s a good luck charm I found in Peru. It’s supposed to bring safety to its owner."

Unable to contain her excitement, Calliope repeatedly thanked Ryken, much to the man’s amusement. He patted her little head while telling her to come visit often.

The cute moment shared between Calliope and Ryken earned smiles and laughter from Calix and Leslie. It seemed like their adorable daughter had just gotten a new uncle who enjoyed pampering her.

After putting Calliope to bed that night, Calix and Leslie went to his home office instead of their bedroom. The night was still young, barely nine o’clock.

The atmosphere outside was peaceful. The crickets chirped occasionally, their singing harmonizing with the echoes of the leaves rustling.

Huddling on the couch, the lovebirds were illuminated by the lights brightening the room. Calix wrapped his arm across Leslie’s back, letting her lean comfortably on him.

Leslie was holding the face sketches of her and Calix’s facial features in their previous life. Both papers were well taken off by the clear plastic lamination.

"I never thought you’ve been dreaming of us," Leslie spoke, her voice a soft melody in the quiet of the night, "Enough that you asked an artist to draw these sketches."

"I also never thought these were us, sweetheart," Calix dipped his head in, brushing his lips atop Leslie’s head, "Still, it’s thanks to these sketches that you learned about us, right?"

Leslie nodded softly, showing she agreed with Calix. Tilting her chin up, she looked into his eyes, "Yes, it did. Mimo only told me about you after I found these[01]."

Even though Leslie was a little sad because it took her this long to learn the truth, she didn’t blame Mimo. The crochet fox toy had certain rules it had to abide by.

"You love your career as a teacher, don’t you?" asked Calix, thinking back to Leslie’s previous job before coming to this world, "Wanna pursue it again this time?"

Leslie wasn’t surprised by the randomness of Calix’s question. He had been doing so from the first time they reminisced about their previous life.

"Maybe I will," answered Leslie after pondering on the issue, "I enjoy teaching the children but, I haven’t thought much about it yet. We have a more important thing to focus on now."

Calix used to tell Leslie a few times that she didn’t need to go back to the work field if she didn’t want to. His wealth was more than enough to support her and their daughter.

In fact, Calix had transferred a few properties to Leslie and Calliope, including some trust funds and investments. The mother and daughter were already set for life.

Calix nodded once, understanding what Leslie meant. She was referring to Nicholas Wu’s vicious plan to ruin the Xu family.

Putting the sketches on the coffee table, Leslie buried herself deeper into Calix’s embrace. She loved how his familiar and comforting scent cocooned her whenever they were this close.

"You’ll attend the auction soon. Please, remember to stay safe, honey."

Leslie’s voice carried a faint shiver, resonating with the uneasiness of her heart. She didn’t let the happiness from today’s outing make her forget the inevitable.

Calix would cross paths with Nicholas Wu soon. The malicious man might not plan to do anything to harm the former during that time yet but, it was better to be vigilant.

"My security team will be with me," Calix softened his voice, hoping to reassure Leslie. Lifting his free hand, he traced her cheek with his thumb, "Don’t forget your husband is the hero in our own story."

Leslie curled up her lips, trying to smile but, the dimness of her eyes betrayed her. Despite knowing they were one step ahead of Nicholas, the unsettling feeling didn’t leave her gut.

Calix smiled, imbuing with helplessness. Leslie’s constant worry didn’t annoy him because he understood why she acted in this way.

She had lost him once. She would never want to repeat such a heartbreaking tragedy. After all, they aimed to grow old together in this new life.

At the same time, Calix didn’t want Leslie to keep being on edge. So... he needed to bring her attention to something else.

Narrowing his eyes, mischief flickering in Calix’s orbs. Pulling Leslie closer to him, he said, "I know how to divert your focus from this."

"En? How? Ah!"

Blinking, Leslie stared blankly at Calix when he suddenly lowered her to lie on the couch. The sneaky grin on his lips was enough to tell her what he planned to do.

"Geez... How could you think of this?" Leslie muttered, feigning her annoyance as she smacked Calix’s chest. Her cheeks flushed furiously, "Is this your way to make me stop thinking about it?"

A low and throaty chuckle flowed from Calix’s lips, causing Leslie to feel the faint tremble of his chest on her palm. Her own heartbeat sped up as heat slowly traveled to her entire body.

"Of course, my love," whispered Calix, the warmth of his breath fanning one side of Leslie’s head and her neck, "Because all you can think about soon is me."

"Why so shameless? You..."

Leslie’s complaint ceased when Calix seized her lips, kissing her ever so gently. Despite the man’s cunning trickery, she protested no more as she let herself melt under him.

Calix eventually deepened the kiss, exploring every inch of Leslie’s mouth with his tongue. His heart soared as she returned his gesture with the same passion.

Feeling her fingers raking through his hair, Calix slowly pulled the wide collar of Leslie’s nightgown, exposing her ample bosom.

"Are... are we doing this here?"

Leslie gasped, almost breathless from the kiss. She bit her lip when Calix started leaving a trail of heated kisses on her exposed skin.

"It’s time to test how sturdy this couch is," Calix chuckled, whispering above Leslie’s lips, "Don’t you think so, my love?"

"...I guess so. If not, you paid it so expensive for nothing ah."

More chuckles escaped Calix’s lips, wondering why such a thought crossed Leslie’s mind at such a time.
