Chapter 479: Don’t Let It Get into Your Head
Miles away from the Xu family’s ancestral home, Daniel Yan made his way into a luxurious apartment rented by his longtime friend, Nicholas Wu.
Being even closer than blood brothers, Nicholas trusted everything in Daniel and vice versa. They knew the passcode for each other’s residence, including the sinister plan they crafted discreetly.
Or so they thought.
’Is he still sleeping? I haven’t gotten any replies to my texts ah.’
Daniel had just returned from golfing with a few new friends he made in the city. Instead of going back to his apartment, he headed directly to Nicholas’ abode.
Daniel hadn’t heard from Nicholas since last night. He only knew that his friend had another date with Belinda, the Qin family’s treasured young lady.
"Hello, aren’t you home?"
Daniel’s footsteps were perfectly audible on the polished marble floor. He headed to the living room where the dazzling summer sunlight filtered through the floor-to-ceiling windows.
A smirk was drawn on Daniel’s lips once his eyes fell on his friend’s figure, lying on the three-seater couch. Nicholas’ eyes were closed, his face marred with lines of exhaustion.
"Did you have another tired yet passionate night with that Belinda lass? Are you trying to knock her up?"
Daniel’s voice was imbued with mockery as he mentioned the young lady’s name. He knew Nicholas had been spending time, mostly nights with the young heiress.
"Is that all you can think about?"
Nicholas scoffed at Daniel’s words. Slowly opening his eyes, his gaze traced the blurry figure of his friend before clarity returned to his sight.
"Aren’t I telling the truth?" replied Daniel as he threw himself on the single couch opposite Nicholas, "I haven’t seen you much alone without her. She practically clings to you like glue."
"Isn’t it good she’s infatuated enough with me?" Nicholas threw a question back to Daniel, "I get to bang her while trying to approach that Xander. It’s a win-win situation for me."
Daniel snickered at the dark tone ladening Nicholas’ voice. His friend showed not even the slightest guilt for charming an innocent young lady so that she could be his puppet.
"That’s true indeed. But, getting her pregnant isn’t bad ah. You’ll forever be linked to the Qins."
Nicholas had always been careful when bedding women. None of the ladies ever bore him a child yet, Daniel thought Belinda might be the perfect target.
After all, the young lady was the cherished granddaughter of the Qin’s elders.
"Nah, they’re as dirty as the Xus. I’d rather knock out a beggar in the street."
Daniel laughed, amused by Nicholas’ perspective.
Nicholas had successfully charmed his way into Belinda’s heart. Helplessly infatuated with the man, the young lady took a step further by introducing him to her family.
Including Xander, one of the main targets in Nicholas’ plan.
Even though Xander was as unapproachable as ever, the news about his strained relationship with Calix delighted both Nicholas and Daniel.
The two men believed they could aggravate the cracks in their friendship further, pushing Xander and Calix far from each other. With this, it would be easier for them to succeed with their plan.
"Don’t let the good sex get into your head," Daniel arched his brows, not caring how crude he sounded, "Stay focused on your goal, Nick."
Daniel had been watching Nicholas suffer because of another person’s cruel judgment; Nicholas’ biological father.
Despite decades having passed, the agony Nicholas was forced to endure remained, flaming his hatred to burn alive in his heart.
"Women can be very troublesome. She’s just the tool I need right now."
Nicholas shrugged. Propping himself up, he leaned comfortably on the couch. A sinister glint flickered in his dark eyes.
While watching Belinda from afar, Nicholas knew how easy to get her to succumb to him. She might be more wary than other young ladies but, she was not that smarter or more guarded either.
In front of Belinda, Nicholas would don the mask of the most perfect gentleman. His gestures and words highlighted how much he adored the young lady as if she was the most important person in his heart.
If only Belinda knew how twisted and dark Nicholas’ heart was beneath his disguise.
Nicholas Wu and Daniel Yan seemed very gentlemanly on the outside but, their cores were already fully rotten. They didn’t change despite leaving the gang years ago.
"Anyway, don’t forget about the auction this late August. The one hosted by the Chang family."
Daniel’s voice returned Nicholas’ attention to the former. The mention of the auction reminded Nicholas of the guest list he obtained from Belinda, a good friend of the Chang family’s young miss.
"I won’t. Both Calix and Xander will be there," Nicholas chuckled, his tone frosty in the bright living room, "It’s time to approach him again. I should show my face more often to him."
Daniel knew what Nicholas meant. He still remembered the planned coincidence his friend did a few weeks back[01].
Learning about Calix’s plan to bring his wife and daughter to the chocolate museum, Nicholas suggested Belinda stay the night at the same hotel.
Nicholas had a twisted sense of satisfaction when he showed up in front of Calix and his family, knowing full well the latter wouldn’t ever guess who he truly was.
"Well, that half-nephew of yours isn’t really sociable. You won’t get to see him much even in important events. That auction is one of the rare chances."
Daniel’s mocking tone lured another scoff from Nicholas’ mouth. He loathed sharing the same blood as the Xu family but, he could do nothing about it.
That damn old man’s blood would forever run in his veins!
Rising to his feet, Nicholas threw a smirk at Daniel. Insanity swirled in his dark eyes, fueled with malice.
"He’s fortunate enough to survive that accident but, his luck won’t last long anymore."
Daniel exhaled a sigh, thinking how chaotic the future would be. He knew Nicholas wouldn’t let himself fail for the second time.
"Be careful. Don’t get yourself caught."
Nicholas replied nothing. The one particular winter night from six years ago was conjured in his mind.
What happened years ago, particularly the failure on his side had been haunting Nicholas.
Even though his first return to the country after decades was not really planned, he had never expected to come across such a rare opportunity.
The chance to ignite chaos within the Xu family, something he had been dreaming since young.
