Chapter 474: Return to Their Daughter

Chapter 474: Return to Their Daughter

Leslie and Calix only fooled around a little in the washroom because both still remembered Calliope waiting for them at the villa. It was only for one night but, they dearly missed their daughter.

Before Calix and Leslie stepped out of the quaint wooden hut, the former received a message from Aunt Wendy, stating the little dumpling had woken up.

"I miss our child," Calix looked up from the phone to Leslie, a helpless smile carving on his lips, "I will hug her tight."

This kind of longing differed from the one Calix experienced during his trip to Zurich.

Calliope was their child. The daughter, of when he was still Axel Liu, who he didn’t know existed until now.

The fragments revealed in the dreamscape were still perfectly clear in his mind. They showed the happy and sad days the mother and daughter experienced as they navigated life together.

Seeing the genuine yearning in Calix’s eyes, Leslie embraced him. She tilted her chin up, letting their gazes collide with one another.

"Honey, I know you wanna hear about our lives before," said Leslie, her voice a comforting murmur, "Let’s take our time, en? I’ll tell you everything."

Calix nodded once. Pulling Leslie closer to him, he wrapped his arms tightly around her frame, finding solace in her warmth.

That was indeed his wish. Calix yearned to know about Leslie and Calliope’s lives in their previous world.

Of Leslie’s pregnancy and the first few months of her taking care of the infant Calliope.

Of Leslie getting used to working harder than before his death because she wanted to give the world to Calliope.

And, of everything.

Hearing the stories from his beloved was different than simply watching the memory fragments.

Calix wanted to know every single thing but, only if Leslie was comfortable in sharing the stories. He was aware half of them would bring back the sadness she endured at those challenging times.

Well, as for now, they should return to their daughter, waiting to have breakfast together with them.

"Let’s go. Lest our glutton of a daughter will be mad with us."

"How could you say that?"

Calix’s remark earned a playful slap on the chest by Leslie. Still, she couldn’t help but laugh. Her giggles bounced off the walls of the tiny hut.

Aiya, if Calliope heard what her papa said, her chubby cheeks would puff out as she protested.

The lovebirds finally got inside the truck. Once Leslie buckled her seatbelt, Calix pulled away from the area of the hut.

The sleek metal of the truck glistened under the morning sunlight. As the husband and wife left the beach, the tires kicked up soft plumes of sand.

Leslie stared out of the window, watching the horizon where the sea and the sky met.

The ocean sparkled in the distance as the sun continued rising higher, casting everything in a warm and golden glow. The echo of the waves was a steady murmur in the quiet morning.

After a calm and peaceful drive, Calix and Leslie finally arrived at the villa. Even before they stepped out of the truck, they saw Calliope run deng deng deng from the main entrance.

"Mama! Papa!"

Calliope’s widened grin lit up her tiny face, stopping on the side facing Leslie.

The husband and wife hurriedly emerged from the van. The latter almost stumbled on her step but, her grip on the door remained steady.

"Good morning, my darling. Mama and Papa missed you so much. Did you sleep well?"

Leslie crouched to hug Calliope. The little one’s familiar scent lingered to the tip of her nose.

"Hehe~ Poppy sleep well ah. Poppy missed Mama and Papa too!"

Calliope giggled when Leslie peppered her little face with kisses. She squirmed like a jellyfish, cackling in joy.

Calix smilingly watched Leslie and Calliope’s interaction. His eyes, now stung with tears, only saw his wife and their daughter cocooned in a bubble of love and affection.

Thankfully...

Thankfully, he was given another chance to be reunited with his beloved and their child. He swore to give them a better life this time around, something he failed to do previously due to his untimely death.

"Poppy."

Calix slowly crouched next to Leslie and Calliope. His voice pulled the mother and daughter’s attention to him.

"Papa~ Poppy miss Papa ah," Calliope rushed to hug Calix, throwing her small body to him, "Papa miss Poppy too?"

Calix easily scooped the little dumpling in his arms. Happiness brimmed in his heart, swelling it with irreplaceable bliss.

"Yes. Papa missed Poppy too."

"Hehehe~ Good, good."

Leslie’s smile softened as she discerned the sadness beneath Calix’s voice. He might seem alright on the surface but, she knew doubts and fear still lingered in his heart and mind.

’We’ll be fine.’

Leslie silently vowed to guide Calix through his uncertainties. She also hoped he would stop blaming himself for something out of his control.

"Let’s get inside," Leslie patted both the father and daughter’s backs, "Aren’t you both hungry ah?"

The lady’s words elicited a reaction from the little dumpling. She suddenly jumped out of her father’s hug, her eyes growing rounder.

"Ohhh! Hungry! Poppy is hungry!" declared Calliope, both hands patting her round tummy, "So hungry ah."

"Is that all you can think about now?"

Calix poked one of Calliope’s cheeks, earning a pout from her.

Leslie chuckled in helplessness, "Let’s have our breakfast. Poppy, don’t you wanna play at the beach later?"

"Yes!"

Calix carried Calliope with one hand while the other led Leslie inside the villa. The little dumpling happily narrated her video call with Old Madam Xu before her parents’ return.

"Oh~ Mama, Papa, Great-Granny said something ah," Calliope smacked her little head, remembering the end of her conversation with Old Madam Xu.

"What was it?" asked Calix, intrigued by what his grandmother told Calliope, "Did she tell you to go and visit her soon?"

"That, too," Calliope nodded before her little face changed in an instant, lighting up with excitement, "Great-Grandma said Poppy will get a baby brother or baby sister ah."

"..."

Both Calix and Leslie were stunned, never expecting to hear such a thing from Calliope.

The little dumpling was oblivious to the surprised looks on her parents’ faces as she continued.

"Where’s Poppy’s baby brother and baby sister? Poppy wants both ah. Can?"

"..."

Neither Calix nor Leslie knew how to respond.
