Chapter 475: I Want to Meet Her
"W-well, a baby is a mystery ah. You won’t know whether it’ll be a boy or a girl until they come out!"
Not knowing how to reply to Calliope, a flustered Calix came up with such a remark. The little dumpling’s mouth formed an O, seemingly amazed to hear about babies from her papa.
"Ooo! Papa, really? Poppy won’t know? Mama and Papa too?"
"Of course! A-anyway! Your papa is hungry ah. I want strawberries for breakfast! You don’t want any, don’t you, Poppy?"
Calix’s tactic to deflect the topic succeeded when an angry Calliope pouted at him.
"Ah! Poppy wants strawberries too! Papa, don’t eat them all ah."
Leslie bit her lower lip, holding back from laughing out loud. Her shoulders trembled as she tried so hard preventing the giggles from escaping.
Aiya, what had Poppy’s great-grandmother taught her?
Leslie lifted one hand, gently patting Calliope’s small back. The little dumpling looked at her mother as her father still carried her.
"Mama is so hungry. Let’s eat first before going to the beach, en?" Leslie chuckled, inner joy flickering in her eyes, "Poppy wanna collect more seashells, right?"
"Hehe, yes~" Calliope smiled widely at Leslie, showing an adorable toothy grin to her mother, "More seashell, please!"
Calix let out a sigh of relief. Carrying the little Calliope on one arm, he held Leslie’s hand with the other. They ventured down the hallway, heading to the dining room.
Right after having breakfast, the family of three headed to the beach. Calix and Leslie showered their attention on Calliope who behaved well during their absence last night.
The beach stretched like an endless golden carpet, a breathtaking view under the dazzling sunlight. From a distance, they saw tiny figures of ships crossing the ocean, heading to their respective destination.
"Ohhh! So cool!"
Calliope shrieked with delight at the cool touch of the water. She happily dipped her toes into the shallow area by the shoreline, feeling the rolling waves kissing her tiny feet.
Calix chased after Calliope, easily scooping the little dumpling up. Caught off guard, she flailed, splashing her father’s shirt with the water from her feet.
"Papa! Let go! Don’t throw Poppy!"
"Ehhh? But, Papa heard the fishes wanna be friends with Poppy," Calix exclaimed in exaggeration, "How can they be friends with you if you stay here?"
"Aaa! No!"
Calliope quickly clung to Calix when her papa pretended to throw her into the ocean. Their banter was audible at the peaceful, quiet beach.
Leslie laughed in amusement upon looking at Calix and Calliope’s funny interaction. She stood at the shoreline, both hands holding the cane for support.
’I can’t believe he knew already.’
The salty breeze ruffled Leslie’s hair, bringing a soft flush to her cheeks. Recalling the chain of events that happened last night filled her heart with relief and wonder.
Leslie believed Calix would be fine. He was saddened by the returning memories but, the way he accepted them made her hopeful.
’I’ll answer his every question. Yes, I’ll do that.’
Leslie let out a sigh of relief as she acknowledged there was nothing to hide from Calix anymore, unlike before. His meeting with Mimo also helped to enlighten some aspects that couldn’t be explained with logic.
The family of three played at the beach until noon. They returned to the villa as the sun hung high in the sky, showering its scorching light to the Earth.
"We’ll swim later, en?" said Calix as he and Leslie brought Calliope to her room, "It’s so hot outside. Get some nap."
"Okay... Poppy is sleepy ah."
Calliope let out a loud yawn to Calix and Leslie’s amusement. The little dumpling patted her bulging tummy, courtesy of the yummy lunch served by Mr. and Mrs. Fu earlier.
Calix and Leslie retreated into their room next door after watching Calliope climb on her bed. The little one’s energy was drained from playing under the sun.
The beach was perfectly visible from the glass sliding doors and the huge windows. Lying on the bed, Leslie silently appreciated its beauty through her half-lidded eyes.
"Won’t you take a nap?"
Calix returned from the washroom. He had just changed into a sleeveless top, discarding the sweaty shirt in the laundry bin.
"I’m waiting for you."
Leslie rolled closer to Calix once he lay on the bed. His chuckles echoed above her head. In her drowsiness, she felt him playing with her hair.
The light touches lured her more toward sleeping until he suddenly asked her a question.
"Sweetheart, do you have any wish now? Apart from anything related to us?"
"...why so random?"
Calix chuckled upon listening to the sleepiness that imbued Leslie’s voice. Lowering his chin, he brushed his lips atop her head. The sweet scent of her hair lingered on the tip of his nose.
"Just because. Hehe, anyway, we can talk about this later," Calix pulled the blanket, covering Leslie’s figure under the soft fabric, "Close your eyes, Leslie. Time for a nap."
Calix hadn’t forgotten that both he and Leslie didn’t get much sleep last night. He refrained from smacking his head for coming up with a random question at a random time.
Still, Leslie was thinking about Calix’s inquiry. Humming quietly with her eyes shut, words flowed from her mouth after a while.
"En... I’ve been thinking... I want to meet Mrs. Wang."
Calix blinked, never expecting Leslie to bring up the name. Her answer was as random as his question.
"Wasn’t she one of the staff when you... I mean, Charlene... was confined during her pregnancy? The only person who was good to her?"
"Yes," Leslie nodded softly, still keeping her eyes closed, "You’ve contacted her and said... I’m currently recovering, right? I think it’s time to meet her. Mrs. Wang... has been good to Charlene."
After Calix learned about the atrocity suffered by Charlene a few months back, he reached out to Mrs. Wang. Under Leslie’s request, he informed the older lady that she was recuperating from her coma.
"I’ll arrange for your meeting with her," Calix quickly agreed, knowing Leslie was doing this for Charlene’s sake, "Don’t worry about this, sweetheart. You’ll get to meet her."
"Thank you, honey..."
The last of Leslie’s words were barely audible as she finally entered the dreamland. Calix smiled before kissing her forehead.
He loved the peace cocooning them, hoping it would last.

A/N: Recently, I’ve begun plotting and writing my next book, scheduled for Jan 2025, most likely once WSA starts. I might start sharing snippets and images at the end of Dec.
So for this book, it’ll remain 1 Chapter/day because I’m afraid it’ll end earlier than Jan if I upload more per day.
I wanna maintain my daily update streak XD It’s going on for almost 600 days without stopping now, unlike previous years when I usually had long hiatus between books.
I hope to make it until 1000 days of non-stop updating :3
